I don't think Tim Cook would allow that. He's all about volume and cannibalizing and will say there's an iPhone or an iPad for everyone. I remember when iPhone X was exclusive... I remember when the iPad was exclusive as well now we have like 8 different models of iPad. It's so confusing!
The iPad lineup itself isn’t all that confusing (classic good, better, best) but the accessory situation is. Keyboards for one model don’t work with others, for example, and there are two versions of the Apple Pencil.

I agree with the suggestion for an iPhone 15, 15 Pro, and 15 Ultra.

The iPhone 14 Plus is the newest addition to the iPhone lineup and replaces the 5.4-inch mini iPhone. The iPhone 14 Plus features the same design, cameras, and performance as the standard iPhone 14 but with a larger display and battery. According to a post by yeux1122 on Naver, who has shared both accurate and inaccurate information in the past, Apple is thinking of ways to reevaluate how it treats pro and non-pro iPhones for the iPhone 15.
All Apple did was walk away from the perspective of best small phone with IPhone 14 plus launch to consumers. It makes more sense to buy last years models that are marked down in price also.

Ever since the release of the larger iPhones the Mini has never sold well. Apple won’t be making another one for a while. The size split for iPhones indicates that a simpler lineup will leave a lot of people without their preferred size - why do people think one size iPhone is okay but don’t think everyone should just sell a mini-van?
I do think Apple is slicing their price points to thin, and should offer four phones, regular and pro, each in two sizes, medium and large for the pro, and alternate that every third year with medium and mini for the regular iPhone.

Phones
iPhone SE (11/12/13/14/15)
iPhone (Pro and Pro Max)

Tablets
iPad SE (iPad)
iPad (Air)
iPad Studio (Pro)

SE has history and makes sense. Pro Max sounds like a brand of trainer or a protein bar.

I scrap all SE editions from menu. I go full Gordon Ramsey on this menu.

The 14 Plus was released late, after the 14 Pro/Max models, supposedly due to CoV restriction shutdowns in China.
But Apple could've made some of the 14 Plus model along with the Pro Max models by reducing the quantity of the latter to be made. But Apple makes more money on the Pro (Max) models so why should it reduce those quantities?
IF the 14 Plus model was released alongside the other models, it may have influenced buyers in not buying the Pro Max model but the Plus model since it cost less and that not everyone wants the latest tech, despite what many Apple fan people think. Having the latest tech is Not an issue for the general iPhone users. The higher price point of the 14 Plus didn't help it sell either.

Despite what many people say, according to many media reports, the Pro Max model seems to be more popular than the Pro model, in many places. The weigh of ~8 oz isn't necessarily the issue but the unwieldiness of the size. If you previously owned a 6S/7/8+ Plus type model, the Pro Max model shouldn't be an issue.

Apple should simplify the iPhone lineup like..
iPhone mini (something ~5.x") - starting with 128Gb
iPhone Pro 6.1" - starting with 128Gb
iPhone Pro Max/Ultra 6.7" - starting with 256Gb

There is nothing wrong with the 14 plus. Not every one wants or needs the pro features. I only brought the pro because the plus was released 6 weeks after the pro and I didn’t want to wait. Staggering the release dates has impacted sales.

Not a surprise when you can get a 13 pro max for cheaper and its better in everyway.

Not sure what the mini has to do with this, since that also sold badly. Strange logic bring back the product that also didn’t sell well, that will fix it!

Perhaps customers have learned by now new is not always better. Price also increased with each generation. While benefits got smaller and smaller. You spend more money, get more computing power and storage, but slow transfer rates, less accessories, on top that baby is going to be obsolete after 5 years? And how „green“ is that? You get a million choices to select from for what exactly? Can you still call it a phone?

Most are probably at a point where they get tired of upgrading each year. What for? To „enjoy“ the speedbump between 4G and 5G? Or Wifi5 and wifi6? A few more Megapixel when taking a picture in the dark? What’s the real life benefit here? The excitement is gone. The product line is way to cluttered.

Give me a phone with a battery lasting 2 weeks. iCloud, AirDrop, Siri, Maps and iMessages work reliably for once. And a phone/iPad that replaces my laptop once and for all. That automatically connects to my TV when I get home. Without black bars.

A phone or a watch that costs as much as a laptop, gets confusing and just leaves more questions than answers. Why can’t I use iOS and macOS depending on my environment on the SAME device? Apple, just look at your support forums. Fix the issues instead of introducing new emoji’s and features each year. People can’t and likely don’t care about the overload anyway. Or maybe they do.

Perhaps they have cottoned on that there’s no point in buying a phone with very little improvement on the previous model.
Why spend over a thousand pounds for very little return.

Apple has almost lost me as a customer anyway despite being a lifelong consumer.

Doing away with iPad sweet spot of 128Gb (forcing us to buy 256Gb) and not replacing the 27” iMac with an equivalent, means that I’m very unlikely to continue my relationship now beyond the odd 3-4 year iPhone upgrade.

People who want the biggest phone also want the best all around phone with the most features. They want the Pro, not a watered down big phone.

If you buy a new vehicle it most likely has a 5 plus year old engine in it. They are not updated yearly

The reason is simply 1 year is not enough for car companies to develop a new engine. Engine development take time and car renewal cycles are not yearly.

There is also no yearly need for a new car engine since you are limited at how much speed you can drive safely, unlike phone chips where you get new app use every year that requires a more powerful chip. A phone you buy in the summer of 2023 and plan to keep for 3-4 years should not have a chip from 2021.

The average consumer just wants a phone that won’t frustrate them. That means good battery, lag free, and being able to see everything on the screen. Back in the 6/6 Plus days, the 6 was too small for some people. My mother had trouble with small text, so she went looking for solutions and the 6 Plus fit her needs. Today, she’s content with her standard 13, which is BIGGER than the 6 Plus. Even if she would appreciate bigger, the 13 does everything she needs and doesn’t frustrate her - why would she pay $100 more? To non tech people, picking an iPhone isn’t about comparing specs or features, it’s just getting the standard one and moving on because there’s a level of trust nowadays that whatever the baseline is is good enough for their purposes. I think that’s a great place for apple to be, but it also makes it hard to sell multiple versions of the baseline, whether that be the mini or the Plus

Yup. Even on the “low end” iPhone offerings, it’s not okay that they’re still using 60hz. iPhone used to be the premium phone. Now, it isn’t.
I have promotion on my iPad and not on my iPhone, and I find the screen experience essentially indistinguishable. Most overrated feature of all time.
Maybe using year old silicon on a "new" phone was not the best idea...
As if users can tell the difference between an A15 and A16.

No high refresh rate screens, last years processor, no dynamic island and they’re surprised people already ponying up for a near $1000 phone are just going for an extra $200 to get the Pro?

I skipped the Plus almost solely because it had a 60hz screen. Also I’d be losing the 2x zoom from my old 7 Plus. The silliest move they’ve made is making the wide angle lens the one included in the base model iPhones.

Should have made an SE Plus with the design of the 8 Plus for an extra hundred and it would have sold like hotcakes.
