Same. loved the SE/5 size and am okay with the Mini (12 for me, 13 for my wife). But as far as looking elsewhere, sadly I don’t see anything like them in the Android world either.I was on an SE1 forever (only left it because of no iOS16 support) and now a 13 Mini.
I enjoy the 13 Mini, but don't love it like I loved the 4" size phones.
If they ever nuked the size class of the Mini and no longer kept up latest iOS support of it (like happened to my SE1), I'd literally be looking elsewhere.
As I said earlier, there's only so much you can do to a smartphone or tablet. The budget iPad and Air are now down to color options. The iPhone main sell mid-cycle is a new color.Too many model variations for a yearly release. Apple just needs 3 phone models. Personally I think all phone makers should be on a 2yr cycle this 1yr cycle. Not enough time to innovate
The Pixel 4a is like the Mini. It has a 5.8" screen and you can still find them new on Ebay. I owned a Pixel 4a and sold it to Google because they gave me 90% of my trade in value after 2 years. I loved that phone.Same. loved the SE/5 size and am okay with the Mini (12 for me, 13 for my wife). But as far as looking elsewhere, sadly I don’t see anything like them in the Android world either.
I’m all for that in the SE but as someone who has followed the brand for ages I have to say it seems like they don’t know what the f they’re doing anymore. It’s the 14, latest number, that’s supposed to be the flagship. ‘Pro’ is where you add some to that, that professionals might like. Or that’s at least what most would think. And the fact that they started to gimp even the flagship while charging these outrageous prices everywhere but especially in Europe then pretend to not know what went wrong, is crazy. Going with last year’s processor especially, they keep cheaping out more and more.Yes they should use the current one but if using a 1 year old chip keeps the price down the average user would be happy.
Terrible.
The budget$329 iPad is literally the best selling model. Discontinuing it for something closer to the iPad Air would be absolutely ridiculous.
The MacBook Air is Apple’s best selling Mac, and also a very recognizable name. “MacBook” might be more elegant, but it’s not as recognizable and it’s slightly more confusing for average consumers.
“Oh you want a MacBook?”
“Not that MacBook.”
Well that’s the MacBook.”
“Well I want the other MacBook.”
Choosing between “Air” or “Pro” is way easier. Plus Apple has tried the “MacBook” name twice, and both times it was completely cannibalized by the Air for plenty of reasons, branding being one of the biggest ones.
Redesigning the Mac mini is literally pointless and would do nothing except annoy people who actually use them for rack mounted servers and such.
Discontinuing both the Apple Watch SE and the iPhone SE is basically shooting Apple in the face.
Both are amazing gateway products into the Apple ecosystem, thats the point.
Cutting off those devices, and any customers who might have purchased them is literally the worst possible decision for trying to hook customers in to services in the future.
I think Apple’s line-ups could definitely use some clean-up don’t get me wrong, but just discontinuing products to discontinue products isn’t it.
I guess that is what Apple has to decide. Some people want a mini...are there enough customers to justify it?There is if they want my money, and as the phone is central to ecosystem, I won't be refreshing by aged iPad or intel MacBook until I know there is a phone for me. I can't be the only one thinking that way. You can't complain about poor sales when you are alienating your long term customers and leaving money on the table
Apple is going to listen to you and loose millions of $. I respect that some people think Apple should focus on the high-end and ditch recycled designs in order to have cheap devices, but it’s naive to think Apple will do that by lowering the price of their existing high-end products (which show no sign of being overpriced at all, looking at sales). The iPhone product range is due for a cleanup and reintroduction of differentiating model names.
- iPhone Mini - Aluminum, 5.4”, $499
- iPhone Pro - Steel, 6.1” $799
- iPhone Ultra - Titanium, 6.7”, $1,099
Storage and battery life would be tiered appropriately in three $100 increments.
Natural upsell happens at the crossover point between the highest storage tier and the lowest cost of the next model. iPhone SE and home button is eliminated.
Mini is marketed in its place and also becomes the core carrier subsidy model. Pro Max is dropped as a name entirely. Each new model size has its own name.

Apple needs to simplify things. The iPhone lineup (and its pricing structure) is becoming as convoluted and idiotic as the iPad(s). Apple has proven for years that multiple entry-level iPhones are just redundant.
Jobs did marketing right. Cook’s strategy of product ranges is unnecessarily messy.
I’ll pass on the 2 handed phone. I want a newer mini. I have the 12 mini…I think they should bring back the mini - have 3 sizes - and have the same cameras and processor in each. People that I know choose their phone based on how they physically hold it, how large or small the screen is. The speed of the processor is not as important to them. They don't see any difference. It's all about the size.
Agree with you, but it is not possible to for Apple to do it now, Steve ws able to do it.Apple needs to stop trying to milk its fanbase - just give us a really decent iPhone 15, not Pro, not Plus, not Mini or anything else - hark back to the days of Steve Jobs - there was just one iPhone (okay already it had differing storage options...)
Apple never designs any product expecting people to upgrade every year. They put last years processors init and are surprised no one upgraded to the same thing they already had. Lol
i am sure there are cars with last year's engines with minor upgrades and some with no engine upgrades at all. It’s foul Apple using last year’s chip on a brand new iPhone 14. Most non-techs people don’t care but how is that ok?
Imagine buying a brand new vehicle with last year’s engine.
there is market for smaller phones, may be small but it does exist.Obviously that’s why it sold so well and was kept…
The only people that care about the Mini are echo chamber fanboys that think their opinions have impact on the balance sheet.
Galaxy S10e - Dead.
iPhone Mini - Dead.
People use their phones as media devices at the end of the day and a larger screen assists with that.
Your need to wear skinny jeans doesn’t trump Apple’s commitment to its shareholders.
“Not everyone wants a big phone”….funny the second best selling phone in 2021 was the Pro Max. Can someone show me where the Mini is on this chart?
Let's see for how long will Google continue supporting and releasing updates for it.Apple should be concerned about Google. The Pixel 7 is a excellent phone and it seems they have found their groove. Their phones are going to get better and better. I would recommend the Pixel over the iPhone 14
