Now get back to leather. Majority did not ask to go to a non leather product. Give us a choice please Apple.

And anti-leather people just move on and buy what you think works for you, but don’t stop all the people I know that want leather to not be able to buy a leather case from Apple.
Leather people can also buy their meat products elsewhere too. Why should Apple be forced to appeal to a plastic leather iPhone case admirers.
Agreed. Using plastics in the name of environmentalism is always a laugh.
The leather iPhone cases are plastic anyway. Complete landfill.

I think you’ll find many leather phone cases are generally not biodegradable. Apple Leather MagSafe cases are made with leather, plastic, magnets and copper wire.
You can't avoid plastic while making a leather case but, still better than 100% plastic. There are companies who make cases way better than Apple does. For example Agood company(agood.com). And cheaper too. It doesn't make any difference for the planet if you just use 68% recycled plastic and sell it for a high price.

I returned mine the day it arrived! What a POS! Bring back the leather, there is no shortage!

You greenie weanies need to stand down on this fine woven crap!

Still don't get it why people don't just buy a $10 cover from a third party that lasts the entire lifespan of the phone. Is the Apple logo on the back of the case that important?
Everyone will have their own experiences, but for me, even the good quality 3rd party cases can't compare to Apple's leather cases. On my previous iPhone 6 that I used for 5+ years, I went through several $12 Elago slim cases. Worked well, but eventually they wearout and break. Found a clearance Apple leather case at Staples for $18 and decided to get it. It lasted well over 3 years and could have gone longer, but I replaced it with a new phone.

My Xs is going on 4-1/2 years now using the leather case that I bought for full price the same day. Aside from some wear at the corners, it's still in good shape.

Yes, the leather cases are/were expensive, but they are well-built and last quite a long time.

When you’re this far in the minority probably not best to accuse others of being wreckless with their cases. Maybe we’re not all type A about our products and baby them like you do. Pocket and desk use? Dude you need to get out and do something more active and you’ll see what EVERYONE else is complaining about.

SMH WTH was the defensive point of this post?

Relax dude. Go out and do something more active, instead of getting pissed at a forum post.

I won't pretend to know enough to definitively say what combination of materials and/or method of production is most environmentally friendly, or even that I care enough for it to influence my purchasing decisions.

What I do know is I want a quality leather case and just got one from Andar last week. Loving it so far.

If Apple's position is to stop producing leather accessories, for whatever reasons, and to now stop producing FineWoven accessories, for whatever reasons, more power to them. Presumably, they now understand that regardless of your virtues, people still want what they want.

16 pages about a case......

They made a mistake. Companies do. Apple have made mistakes before, and will do so again.

A bit disingenuous to keep selling them though, with the same gushing prose used from the original launch....

They should offer generous trade-ins - since they are apparently recyclable anyway - against whatever replaces them....

The real question is whether we need any kind of case at all.....

They just feel so gross! I could maybe use these as long as I was wearing gloves.

Wow, 15 pages for a phone case. I thought the Vision Pro’s “lack of interest” thread would’ve generated more… well… interest.

Should’ve just used regular vegan fabric / faux leather instead. No reason to wear our tools in murdered organisms, we as a species are already far ahead of Stone Age. Or at least I hope so.
One would wish. But sadly I look around almost daily and I am shocked/disappointed at how some refuse to grow. I heard a comedian one time say, "Look around at the average person. Now think about the fact that statistically 49% are worse than them."

  • Leather production involves the use of several chemicals, such as chromium, formaldehyde, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
  • Chromium is used in the tanning process to make the leather more durable and resistant to water. However, it is a toxic metal that can cause cancer and other health problems when inhaled.
  • Formaldehyde is used to preserve the leather and prevent it from decaying. However, it is a known carcinogen and can cause respiratory problems.
  • VOCs are released from various chemicals used in the leather production process, such as adhesives, dyes, and solvents. These can cause respiratory problems, headaches, and other health problems.
It's not the little bit of trash in your hand at the end of the day it's the massive amounts of chemicals that release into Chinese waterways from these Chinese leather manufacturers. Not to mention apples leather was the cheapest semi-aniline leather with a paint covering. Truly paper thin and all which you can touch and feel is plastic.

Yeah, but... I bought Apple's leather Air Tag holder (it was more expensive than the Tag). It's still as good as new today...

We need to find a way of making something truly as good as leather to get people to make the switch...

I ended up getting a leather case for my iPhone 7 late in my iPhone's life that I held on to for three years. I thought it was fine, then got a new iPhone with finewoven case. Yeah, that leather case was warping, and starting to go, but the buttons worked absolutely fine. No issue with my finewoven case so far, and the important piece to me, the buttons are solid as ever. If I get another two years out of it (and no doubt I likely will), I'm happy.

It’s an inferior product. It has absolutely no redeeming qualities. The people that are downvoting comments criticizing it are looking petty and foolish. There is nothing to get angry about or defend.

So a recycled and recyclable iPhone case is inferior than a carcinogenic and non recyclable iPhone case… rrright.

Plenty of people here look after their cases and have had no problems. Criticising it is petty and foolish IMO. People should get over it and buy their leather case from somewhere else. Apple couldn’t care.

Anyone who's bought a Bible recently will have observed that some of the new premium fake leathers like Thomas Nelson's "Leathersoft" are virtually indistinguishable from the real thing and just as hard wearing. That's surely the answer.
I was about to post the same thing. I'm impressed with Thomas Nelson's Leathersoft option. Crossway has been tinkering with something similar.

I got the impression that Apple wanted to move away from the leather-look as well as genuine leather because there are some who are repulsed by even the appearance of anything that looks like leather. Similar to how some who dislike meat also dislike plant-based alternatives that taste/look like meat.

Finally went back to silicon. Chipped one edge of the case so am on #2 for this year. But overall I'll stick to what works. I bought one of the fine woven, but it's sat in a drawer as a "back up" ever since. On to newer better things hopefully.
