I can't possibly be the only one.

I haven't worn a watch in YEARS. Decades maybe. Our cells have the time, our computers, our cars our microwaves, our TVs...

Watches are obsolete.

March and Feb are only 2-3 months ago... How have things been quiet for "several months"?

Is several not more than two? 2-3 is therefore several?

I'm enjoying my Pebble, it is a drop in the ocean as to the functionalities that can be placed into a wrist watch. I'm all for the idea but a huge requirement is functionality with existing devices, deep integration with watch and iPhone/iPad.

I can't see these being successful beyond the "geek" community. I would never wear one.

What is it expected to actually do? Just be the old Nano with a wrist strap? Too small to surf the net. Not a phone. Too small for real apps. Wouldn't want to run headphone speakers from my wrist.

I don't get it. And as my sig points out, I'm usually in for any new Apple gadget. I can't think of an Apple Gadget I've skipped since Newton, but this seems pointless.

1. Wrist Talkie(Voxer)
2. Email and text
3. Siri(Siri will get better over time)
4. Score updates
5. Why would you want to surf the web on a watch?
6. stocks
7. Music(iTunes)
8. voice recorder
9. And of course to tell time

Give me the ability to do this and I will buy it.

You're missing the point. Telling the time will be the least most important feature of he device.

Problem is the current term 'watch' has a very narrow definition. Think small wearable computer and your mind starts to imagine more possibilities.

Pebble sold over 85K.

I hadn't either, until I got my Pebble...

Wonder if the naysayers will ever return to this thread to humbly eat their crow in the future.

I imagine they'll probably do so via their brandy new iWatch.

Call me an optimist.

This line of conversation sounds familiar... iPhone, iPad anyone?

Not sure we can run that comparison here, there are a lot more variables:

- Watches have been around for years, this wouldnt technically be a watch, more like a wrist assistant with a watch app.

- iPads/iPhones were replacing bricks, an iWatch would be bigger, heavier and a way lower battery life than most watches

- The iPad was a success because it replaces a very large computer with a handheld computer. So that pretty much rules the iPad out of being a comparable product.

- The iPhone was providing a usable internet browser on a pda, and bundling phone capabilities, replacing two devices. Again, not really comparable.

You're better off comparing this to the Apple TV. Sure, people who wanted a 'smart' tv could have one, they just had to DIY or use an obscure product. In the watch space we have the likes of Pebble so theres a bit to compare there.

Remember, Apple have created new markets with the iPhone and iPad - they arent doing that here.

It could be like a Pebble but with much tighter integration to the iPhone using proprietary APIs.

It's also possible that design wise it will be incredibly awesome and make people want to wear watches again just because of how it looks.

But, I'm currently not that interested. Trying to keep an open mind, though.

Hey if it takes off and I find a use I'll bite. But as it stands short of 'useful for runners' I cant see any benefit over something like Google Glass.

I really find pathetic those comments saying "I stopped using a watch 30 years ago".

Really? How thick do one have to be to think that an iwatch will just show the time??

I don't like wearing watches, that's what my phone is for. The only time I wear a watch is when I can't have my phone with me, like when I go surfing. So if this iWatch is waterproof, then sure.

I'm no visionary, but I don't get the iWatch or GoogleGlass. Of the two tho, I think the iWatch is more practical.

1) I assume you mean phone?
2) How the heck do you write an email on a 1.5" screen?!
3) I've heard the 'will get better over time' since April 2010. It's still the same useless 'assistant', performing pretty much the exact same tasks as any dumb voice assistant.
4) ??? Useful as a whole? Nope.
5) You wouldnt, ever
6) Useful to a tiny percentage of people
7) Kill the iPod, The nano wrist strap was a flop, so Apple already know people dont want that.
8) Meh, your phone can do that
9) I'll give you that one :p

There needs to be a compelling feature - so far there isnt.

If it looks like a traditional watch it might get popular.

Circular screens are already here. Example: Motorola Aura from 2008.

I have a feeling that whilst this will be a 'success' (in the sense that the Apple TV is a success, but maybe not a massive success, ala iPhone) that it'll become pretty much obsolete pretty quickly.

Everyone is working on 'hands free' devices, and whilst a watch does kinda fall in the same category, when you've got the likes of projects like Google Glass, it makes you wonder why (other than potentially for running/exercising) a watch is a better option.

Really wish Apple were working on a set of glasses with HUD, its certainly got the potential to be an amazing, and very futuristic device if done right.

Maybe its just me, I just dont seem to be able to get all that excited about what as far as I can tell, will essentially be a Nano sized iPod Touch strapped to your wrist that makes heavy use of bluetooth.

People 5 years from now will laugh so hard at this, when the iWatch is the biggest thing.

I'm comparing in terms of people bagging it out before they've given it a chance, or in this case before they've even seen it.

Wearable computing is the next big revolution. There is a whole world of smarts coming that neither you or I can fully comprehend yet. Just don't underestimate the potential based on our limited view now.

Good God I thought I was alone until I read this.

Honestly, I couldn't care less about that. Unless SJ rises from the ashes, I can't see what kind of innovation they can bring that is not already present in current iPod Nano/GPS/fitness watch implementations.

lets be honest, no one wears a watch to actually "use it" its a fashion statement so hublot or smartwatch? rolex or smartwatch? hmmmm

only really makes sense as gym accessoires but nike covers that. needs to be < 99 bucks

sorry but i cant picture a guy in a suit wearing a smartwatch lol

I honestly can't see how Hublot can be a fashion statement. Hublot: I'm rich and have no taste whatsoever.
On seeing one in the flesh, I actually thought it was a $20 pos, until I was informed it was worth over $7000.
I then looked down at my Submariner and burst out laughing.
