Ok, maybe you need glasses if you can't tell the difference between the two

Come again? You implied that the Google Glasses looked 'nerdy', my response was that surely a 1.5" screen attached to your arm could be considered just as nerdy.

Maybe you need to leave the internet for a while if you cant decipher a pretty simple conversation in a forum.

At this pace, in 5 years, Samsung phones will be around 20 inches. A watch might be handy so you don't need to get the phone out of your pocket to check if you have a new text

I agree with all of these. A watch is a fashion statement, and all of these "smart" watches are hideous...

Exactly. Any "iWatch" design is going to have to be very stylish and elegant in order to have a chance at mass-market success. They're not competing against other smart watches (which are a very limited market), but all watches.

But presumably, Apple and Jonathan Ive are well aware of this.

People 5 years from now will laugh so hard at this, when the iWatch is the biggest thing.

If in 5 years time someone points me to my post that you quoted, and the iWatch is as big as the iPhone or iPad, I'll happily eat my words :)

Not for me I have a Breitling so why would I go for an over priced bit of plastic. Mine tells the time and that's why I wear a watch, my phone tells me the time also but I dont wear it.

Maybe kids will wear the iwatch? Watch sales are at an all time ( pardon the pun) low, it will be all the rage I'm sure for a year or two before it will go out of fashion again. If I had shares in Apple I would sell now! Luckily I did sell at the higher rate! I feel its time to get out if you have any left. I feel apple has/is loosing its way in life.

1) I assume you mean phone?
2) How the heck do you write an email on a 1.5" screen?!
3) I've heard the 'will get better over time' since April 2010. It's still the same useless 'assistant', performing pretty much the exact same tasks as any dumb voice assistant.
4) ??? Useful as a whole? Nope.
5) You wouldnt, ever
6) Useful to a tiny percentage of people
7) Kill the iPod, The nano wrist strap was a flop, so Apple already know people dont want that.
8) Meh, your phone can do that
9) I'll give you that one :p

There needs to be a compelling feature - so far there isnt.

Exactly. And since SJ is no longer around, we can be sure that the innovation/wow factor will be much lower than anticipated.

What is it expected to actually do? Just be the old Nano with a wrist strap? Too small to surf the net. Not a phone. Too small for real apps.

Think of it as a wrist-mounted remote control for your phone/tablet and bluetooth headset.

The right balance would be "notification centre on your wrist". It would display text messages, calendar events and announce new emails, giving you just enough information to decide whether or not it was worth getting your phone out.

Wouldn't want to run headphone speakers from my wrist.

No, but it might be handy to have track name, with play/pause/skip/volume controls on your wrist.

You could use Bluetooth headphones (and it might be your phone/tablet actually playing the music).

For phone use - bluetooth headset again, but you could use the watch to screen incoming calls, or speed-dial outgoing calls.

Dear Apple,

Please release a new iPhone already (not the 5S, the 6) so I can shut up all the Android S4 owners at my office that continually stop by my desk to show me some half-baked, gimmicky features of their new phone. They are getting really annoying and seem to think that having 100-buggy features and a jumpy interface makes their phone better than mine.

I don't throw any features of my iPhone in their face yet their inadequacies lead them to come to my office and show off the most useless features in an attempt to prove that I am wrong for being an iPhone fan.

I am a patient man but this is getting ridiculous.

Thank you in advance.

Surely if you only own a watch to tell the time, you wouldn't have made a concise effort to let us all know your watch is worth upwards of $5k.

$30 will do the job fine if you really only want a watch to tell the time ;)

Step 1: Assume "iWatch" will be hideous and useless.
Step 2: Dismiss "iWatch" because it will be hideous and useless.

:D

I'm usually optimistic about things like this but I just can't see a market for a iWatch, its a novelty. Geeks will buy it but I don't see it going mainstream.

I hope I'm proven wrong

As BaldiMac points out.. Why is everyone so fast to assume this is going to look exactly like iPod Nano on a wristband? This is like assuming iPhone was going to look somewhat like BlackBerry before its announcement.

Also, have you all forgotten about the whole health and fitness, and daily-life pattern monitor functionality that's been the big thing lately? Nike+ Fuelband, Fitbit, Up, and so on.. This watch is supposed to replace all those, and more. (If the rumor holds true.. I really hope it does.)

If the iWatch does all these, and looks as attractive as Nike+ Fuelband, I'm all in with this device. I usually wait for 3rd gen of any Apple product, but with this one, I might just well be in the line on day 1.

As someone who owns a Pebble, which is so Beta it isn't funny, it's hard to leave the house without it now. The ability to get TXTs on my watch, see who's calling 50 feet away when my phone is on my desk, get eBay alerts, etc. is pretty damn valuable.

Ha here it is! This is the new iwatch/Tv

No thanks! Keep this one Johnny! Iwatch:tv.jpg

Surely if their entire product is based around the health market, thats not ever going to be a mainstream success.

As I said before, it needs a unique, compelling feature that is not specific to one particular group of people.

All that interest in fitness devices like FuelBand, Up, etc. says there is a significant interest out there already. Many people think this is the new frontier.. many of us just don't realize that.

If this looks good and is not too wide on my skinny wrist I will get one. it'll be a great 5th gen video iPod replacement. This looks great. I think the looks, battery life and SSD space it has will determine if I get one.

Apple would never release something ugly. I'm sure what ever they release will be of a more satisfying design than what is pictured (as the picture is basically an iPod of a few years design mounted on a band).

I for one would love and elegantly designed smart watch that had an interface to my phone. Great on my bike and for music, even a quick glance during driving to stop me pulling out my phone every 10min (Dangerous I know).

I'm imagining this thing as a complimentary device to your other Apple gear, rather than a standalone product.

Kinda a place where notifications come, where you can easily control your music playback or apple TV, or a device you use to talk to siri.

It's not a mini computer in it's own right, more an always available extension of other devices.

Also, I strongly doubt apple would use a small, flat, rectangle screen. We won't see these until curved screens are ready for mass production - it'll be just a wristband which is the screen with no conventional watch-face.

If you are getting upset by such things, just buy S4 and be happy

It'd be awesome if it came with bluetooth headphones and the whole unit including the earbuds could be charged via induction.

You just take the whole thing off and lay it all on its little plate to charge for the next use.

Smart watches are too big.not and they aren't very feminine looking. I don't any woman including myself would wear such an ugly watch.
