Apple would never release something ugly. I'm sure what ever they release will be of a more satisfying design than what is pictured (as the picture is basically an iPod of a few years design mounted on a band).

I for one would love and elegantly designed smart watch that had an interface to my phone. Great on my bike and for music, even a quick glance during driving to stop me pulling out my phone every 10min (Dangerous I know).

As a proud owner of El Capitano Blue and White G3 350, I would tend to agree with you if not for the atrocious puck mouse, round translucent piece of sh...

Hey if it takes off and I find a use I'll bite. But as it stands short of 'useful for runners' I cant see any benefit over something like Google Glass.

Google Glass looks like a$$ on humans, and states volumes about the wearer. Google Glass is notable for the social negatives that it brings.

Wrist watches have long been socially acceptable.

lets be honest, no one wears a watch to actually "use it" its a fashion statement so hublot or smartwatch?

I had a Fossil watch for Christmas a few years ago...it was very big/clunky and a pain, I have not worn a watch for many years before that. I returned it and purchased the Nano and watchband combo for just about the same money, and love it. I put it on the car charger on the way into work, stays charged for several days. I use the iPod functionality almost daily to test AV equipment and I purchased separate rubber covers for the 30 pin port and headphone port on Ebay. I get many comments on how cool it is etc etc etc...the only issue is the glass gets beat up..I already have a corner broken...but I am hard on my watches, which is why I stopped wearing them, so harder glass and better screen protection options..would be great.

I think if they do this right and include some basic things like the Nike + Egg support, calculator and such.....the amount of times I reach in my pocket or belt clip for my phone and am able to just see notifications, emails and do Siri based responses would be invaluable. Bluetooth is a must...and the battery needs to last at LEAST a few days.

At the right price...this would be a major hit...IMHO.....I would have no problem buying one.

Dear Apple,

Please release a new iPhone already (not the 5S, the 6) so I can shut up all the Android S4 owners at my office that continually stop by my desk to show me some half-baked, gimmicky features of their new phone. They are getting really annoying and seem to think that having 100-buggy features and a jumpy interface makes their phone better than mine.

I don't throw any features of my iPhone in their face yet their inadequacies lead them to come to my office and show off the most useless features in an attempt to prove that I am wrong for being an iPhone fan.

I am a patient man but this is getting ridiculous.

Thank you in advance.

LOL I feel ya. I used to not care about Samsung and its gimmicks, but seeing so many people being lured by them and abandoning iPhones makes me lose hope in humanity.

:D

(I kid, but I really am somewhat disappointed)

How big is a 1.5" screen? It actually sounds kind of small to me.
I was really hopping for something like this:

Surely if you only own a watch to tell the time, you wouldn't have made a concise effort to let us all know your watch is worth upwards of $5k.

$30 will do the job fine if you really only want a watch to tell the time ;)

He couldn't afford a Rolex

Can't I just have a comm badge like in startrek but linked to my phone? Much better hands free device than a watch, doesn't need local storage (as streams it from iphone /ipod pipes it straight into headphones and nice and short cable from badge to head) and I dont really need another time telling device.

LOL at all the posts saying no one uses watches anymore and that they're obsolete. Just because you don't, doesn't mean tons of other people don't.

What is it expected to actually do? Just be the old Nano with a wrist strap? Too small to surf the net. Not a phone. Too small for real apps. Wouldn't want to run headphone speakers from my wrist.

I don't get it. And as my sig points out, I'm usually in for any new Apple gadget. I can't think of an Apple Gadget I've skipped since Newton, but this seems pointless.

I think this is just an attempt by Apple to out gadget google glass in the innovation department. That being said, the headphones would be wireless obviously. Running a cord to your wrist would be silly. Bluetooth earbuds? There'd also be a speaker in the watch. The more I think about this, the more I warm up to it as a concept....and alot more practical than google glass if you ask me. Who wants a floating screen in front of one of their eyeballs?

Step 1: Assume "iWatch" will be hideous and useless.
Step 2: Dismiss "iWatch" because it will be hideous and useless.

:D

Obviously we are basing this on the renders and the way the pebble looks. If it is anything similar, it will be hideous.

Honestly, I couldn't care less about that. Unless SJ rises from the ashes, I can't see what kind of innovation they can bring that is not already present in current iPod Nano/GPS/fitness watch implementations.

What does Steve Jobs have to do with anything? It's not like he dreamed up all this stuff in his head.

I can't possibly be the only one.

I haven't worn a watch in YEARS. Decades maybe. Our cells have the time, our computers, our cars our microwaves, our TVs...

Watches are obsolete.

This is just not true. I use to not wear watches but about 2 years ago I started and I now see why they're still around and probably will never go away. Not only does it make a statement, complete your look or however you want to put it, it's much easier to just twist your wrist and get the time rather than diving into your pocket (or your purse if you're a lady (or a murse if that's what floats your boat)) to pull out your phone.

I wonder how many people didn't know they 'needed' an iPhone/iPad/etc until Apple came out with them. It's going to be the same thing with a watch.

Rumors of an Apple smart watch ramped up in the months following that December report

I don't think you should use the term 'ramped up' in this articles to describe te rate of rumors. You should save this term for talking about 'production ramping up'. It looks poor to keep using the same term in two different articles one right after the other. In my humble opinion, that is.

Apple better make a Rolex one so I can buy a fake one.

I gotta give you props for that one. I can see all the stores on Chanel St full of fake iRolex's and purses.

Personally, a watch for me is more fashion or style. I can't see myself trading in my Bertolucci or Rolex for an iWatch, especially as my iPhone will probably make it redundant tech.

What is it expected to actually do? Just be the old Nano with a wrist strap?.

iPod nano already has wrist strap..thousands of them actually. If the rumors are true, you can bet its gonna be a good looking device. And as far as function goes, the list is getting longer every day. And as much as I thought a smart watch would be a niche product for tech geeks, (basically the same guys that wore the calculator watches back in the 80's) I am now thinking its gonna be a big deal. Huge, actually. I'm really excited to see some part leaks and spec rumors.

Obviously we are basing this on the renders and the way the pebble looks. If it is anything similar, it will be hideous.

Sure. That's what I was making fun of. Why would you base it on that? Do you remember the renders of the original iPhone?
