That's great but your son will wonder why you gifted him this wrist strap that only tells time while everyone else will have the internet on their wrist.
Depending on what it does, $400 is not a bad price.
It won't be cheap because apple doesn't do cheap. At $400, it will sell like hotcakes, just like $80 jeans, $170 shoes, $300 + purses, etc. It depends on the pitch, like all apple products. If it just works, looks elegant, and does something that others don't, it will sell well.
I just want it to be round. Out of all the smart watches that have been shown off so far, the only ones that look reasonably wearable are the Moto 360 and the LG G Watch R. All the square ones look like $12 Casio's that you buy at Wal-mart.
so what if apple built a watch that was on par(in terms of build quality) with the entry level watches from luxury brands. Tag, Tissot, etc. They would be in the $400-500 range right? Add on to that the device will be a health/fitness monitor and be a ( at a minimum ) relay for you iPhone. notifications, music controls, home automation controls etc. We all know they will not settle for a 1-2 day battery life like the rest of the current smart watches. and those are 199-299. so would 400 really be that much of a stretch for what you are getting? This device will not have the build quality of a $100 regular watch. It will be a much higher quality build.
With all of those taken into consideration, again build quality is essential if they want to achieve that price point, I think they have a good case. Obviously not everyone is going to be able to afford the mid-high range of apple's wearable. Just like all apple devices they will be towards the upper price range of the market, it is just a matter of whether or not it is deserving of the price. Talk to anyone who is "into watches" and you will quickly realize that they can easily out price your laptop.
Why does Apple have to reinvent the wheel. Just release a very thin 1.8" iPod nano remake that can pair up with your phone (or headphones) to Bluetooth. Give it the same iPhone design with wireless charging and no headphone jack. Make some first party watch mounts with fancy quick connects and let third parties go wild. Let apps download via iPhone or iPad (copy the way Android Wear does it) and make sure that the OS is touch friendly because a home button would take up precious space.
If you really want to get fancy give it wifi to download apps, stream music and video. Allow it to make wifi calling (home or iDevice Hotspot) with a Bluetooth headset. Or you can open your garage door, unlock your car, control your thermostat or turn on/off lights via wifi modules tied to your network. The possibilities are endless.
But if Apple does not do this Android Wear will. If I was a betting man I put my money on Android wear evolving with many of those functions I just listed.
HA!
At that price it would have to cook and clean the house.
$400 for what? An extension of your phone? What are you getting that your phone doesn't already have ...huh? Are we all that lazy now to pull a phone out of our pockets and see the big clock on the home screen?
Or will this mean longer lines when the iPhone 6 comes out?
I'm going to BOIL if I see some kid talking on his iWatch with a phone in the other hand!
