Apple Reportedly Weighing $400 Price Range for Upcoming Wearable Device

No way I shell out more than $250 total for this thing...and that's if it has all the bells and whistles

It better be pretty awesome for $400. I can see myself getting one but hiding it so I don't look like a douchebag. At least for a few months until everyone has one, and it's not a big deal anymore. That's how I felt with the first iPhone anyway.

I don't want one. I don't care what it does, the price, or who makes it. Its hard to justify owning a dumb watch when you carry a smartphone so I don't see the need.

That's too expensive, there is no way.

If they are starting it off at $400, it is the latest douche-bag accessory akin to how the first generation iPhone was thrown into people's faces.

It is also good news for Pebble. I am sure they have been working on a color OLED watch for a while and waiting for the Apple shoe to drop so they can position themselves properly.

Premium

Apple has always said they're a premium supplier. I would restate that. They're a supplier that offers services and access rights with their hardware purchase. I think an additional $100 retail/upfront will work in their market.

The days of Steve Jobs lowering the price $100 retroactively are over. Apple has established value in all countries.

Tell that to Pebble owners. For a company with its roots in Kickstarter, they are doing rather well and have a nice SDK.

I don't believe Apple would make a new device which requires users to have another device in order for it to work properly. It singles out a large percentage of consumers if they do. An example of this would be the google glass.

If anything, this new wearable device would be a category of it's own that also has advanced features for iOS users. We'll see. I'm looking forward to this and @ $400, the high-end version better be worth it.

$400 is pretty expensive for an iPhone accessory. I mean, that's over half the unsubsidized price of the iPhone itself. If a lot of functioning involved in the watch either comes from or is processed by the phone, the price needs to be significantly lower. I would expect $199 for an entry-level model, with full-functioned, flagship-style devices around $299.
It cost $$$$ to put the same tech in a smaller package @ $1000 an iWatch would be justified.

If that's the case, I'll stick to my Fossil watch that I still have and use since the 8th grade (1999)

For me, the problem is not the price but the actual point of this device. So it's going to be, basically, an iPhone companion? In that case, is there anything I can do with the iWatch that I cant do already with my iPhone?

I dunno, I just dont see the point of Smart Watches.

$400 is too much for an iWatch.

We have to remember that regardless of functionality these things will be seen by the consumer as fashion accessories first and foremost.

Unless this thing has truly mindblowing looks (and not just a slate screen) Why rock a $400 wrist mounted ipod touch when for the same price you can get a truly impressive timepiece from Calabria or Bulova along with a G-shock for your fitness use?

This needs to be in the $150-199 range to sell like hotcakes, or basically in the ipod nano price range. Could be interesting if it replaces the nano.

IMHO its pretty stupid to judge this price point without first seeing the device and what it can or can't do. I typically spend a LOT more than $400 for my timepieces. I'm more worried about whether it will be beautiful and elegant while offering cool 'new' features than I am worried about its price.

at that price

i'd rather pay rent or give it to a street musician.

Most people think their iPhone costs $199, so they're not going to want to spend $200 more than the phone on an accessory.

wow.... its humongous.

This is the best one yet. lol

Who would even wanna wear this thing ?

We've gone from small, square, round ... in fact all different shapes & sizes of a potential "iWatch" , its so ridiculious to the point, no one has any idea.

The only good this is at least the features are more accurate than the mockups are.

Someone pinch me quick and tell me that "Apple has been having issues with Sapphire", or did everyone forget this over-night ?

That tells you everything..

Apple people wanna be noticed... Well, that's no problem there... You can see this this from across the pond.
