People bemoaned when Apple moved to being a mobile phone company, they can now bemoan them becoming a ’hearables’ company :p

If this is legitmate, pro design will probably replace the standard design with limited features. And I’m willing to bet pro lite is just the concept name. Of course we all thought the name iPad sounded ridiculous, but against all odds, we actually did survive.

I wish they made an in-ear version of the AirPods without ANC at a price similar to current AirPods. The in-ear design would help reduce the noise and I can live without transparency mode

Maybe they just rebrand AirPods Pro to AirPods Pro Lite so they don't have to fix the firmware nerf they already did...

Last I read, there’s no difference in sound quality, the only difference between them was the ANC?

Sound quality is def better, but I would guess it is mostly down to getting a better seal.

Apple, or someone else, needs to come up with noise cancelling headphones/earphones which are comfortable to wear while sleeping. Huge market opportunity here!

Apple is said to be working with supply chain partners in Taiwan on several upcoming products, including a so-called "AirPod Pro Lite," according to DigiTimes. Other products mentioned include next-generation iPad, Apple Watch, and iMac models, all of which will be due for updates in the coming months, although some like the iPad and Apple Watch are unlikely to launch before September.

The AirPod Pro Lite mention comes without further details, buried in a report about Apple looking to ramp up production with partners in Taiwan as it seeks to geographically diversify Apple's supply chain amid the ongoing coronavirus epidemic that has significantly impacted production in China. It's unclear exactly what DigiTimes is referring to by "AirPod Pro Lite," as Apple just released the AirPods Pro in October of last year. That followed the launch of second-generation regular AirPods in March 2019, and with only $50 separating the AirPods Pro from the wireless case version of the regular AirPods, we're not sure how a "Lite" version of the AirPods Pro would fit into Apple's lineup.

While DigiTimes often has some insight into Apple's product pipeline through the supply chain, the publication is less accurate when it comes to specific details like product naming and timing, so it's possible these could be a third generation of the regular AirPods, but we'll have to wait for additional rumors to surface before we have a better picture of what to expect.

Sort of an "iPod Pro Amateur" version, if you will :p

I wish Apple would make a WIRED version (lighting cable?) of the AirPod Pro (called EarPod Pros). Seems like a no brainer to make.
Same here — wired earbuds with noise cancelation and transparency mode
I don't know if you have noticed, but apple keeps moving away from ports. they will not make a wired version just to remove lightning in a few generations. Wireless is where apple is going with stuff like this.

The level of idiocy associated with that name points towards Apple throwing out names to find out who leaks all that stuff. ;)
