The only thing more surprising or shocking is to see how gullible posters are, thinking this is real and not a rumor lol.the fact that you guys would be surprised is more shocking. Tim Apple has been splitting up the product line as much as he can.
Why no iPad tag? Or Apple Watch tag? Are you sure it has to do with the Mac?I was even wondering why no mention of iMac in the title. I almost scrolled by until I noticed it in the body. I’m more interested in hearing about that than the AirPods.
But, I guess it is a sign of the times.. especially when AirPods (or wearables?) are generating more revenue for Apple than Macs.
and we can call it....the PowerBeats Pro's
What exactly does apple‘s marketing team has to do with this rumor? Don‘t believe everything that‘s on the internet.
AirPods are recyclable. Drop them off at any Apple store, or if that’s not convenient they’ll send you a postage paid mailer.Cool, more non-recyclable e-waste. Keep championing your environmental friendliness Apple!
What if I'm in a country where that is not accepted? Why does Apple not share how to properly dispose of it's products with third party recyclers?AirPods are recyclable. Drop them off at any Apple store, or if that’s not convenient they’ll send you a postage paid mailer.
You said AirPods were non-recyclable e-waste, which isn’t true. So now that we’ve established you’re wrong, I suppose that argument is finished. What if I'm in a country where that is not accepted? Why does Apple not share how to properly dispose of it's products with third party recyclers?
Does mailing a piece of e-waste not seem counter intuitive as now more carbon emissions are being put out just to move it?
That sounds right but the sound quality would probably be the same or lower if its a light version and maybe they eliminate regular air pods or lower the pricing on them.
A bit of research shows that this is, in fact, true. AirPods are disposable items with a half-life of around three years (due to the non-replaceable, limited lifespan battery). The only component that can possibly be recycled is the battery (for its constituent materials) - which is glued in.You said AirPods were non-recyclable e-waste, which isn’t true.
AirPods SE. $119 without wireless charging case, $159 with.AirPods Air
Wow, sounds horrible. Luckily, it’s not true.A bit of research shows that this is, in fact, true. AirPods are disposable items with a half-life of around three years (due to the non-replaceable, limited lifespan battery). The only component that can possibly be recycled is the battery (for its constituent materials) - which is glued in.
Because it is glued in it has to be removed manually which immediately makes it uneconomic. The labour cost being significantly higher than the value of the material extracted. The rest is just an unrepairable, unreusable and unrecyclable complex mess of plastic glue and wires which will either go into landfill or a furnace.
The only thing more surprising or shocking is to see how gullible posters are, thinking this is real and not a rumor lol.
Tim Apple has improved the product lineups immensely. Instead of just parroting a talking point, tell us what you would do instead. Consider this challenge, even though it is difficult. (By my count, there are 27 models across 9 distinct categories.)
How would you simplify the current product lineup? Specifically, which model(s) would you eliminate of:
Not so simple is it? That’s why a genius like Tim Apple makes a fortune while the wannabe armchair CEOs post drivel.
- The three MacBooks (Air, 13/16 MBP)
- The five Mac desktops (mini, iMac 21.5/27, iMac Pro, Pro)
- The five iPads (Mini, 10.2, Air, 11.0/12.9 Pro)
- The three new iPhones (iPhone 11, 11 Pro/Pro Max)
- The three older iPhones (8, 8 Plus, XR)
- Apple Watch (Series 3/5)
- Apple TV (4K/HD)
- AirPods (Regular/Pro)
- HomePod
- iPod Touch
PS Bonus points!
- Which products would you add to the lineup?
- Assuming you are able to decide among the available options, why would you think others can’t?
If your point was that Cook has offered just exactly the right number of models for each product in the lineup, then I agree, and apparently misunderstood your meaning.so you are proving my point? before you go all tim holy on us. you should read the comment.

If you think there are too many models in the lineup, my original comment stands. Tell us which model you’d cut.
This isn’t the near-bankrupt Apple of 1997 who can only afford to manufacture a handful of products. That was a great strategy to focus Apple’s employees but wasn’t that great a situation for customers.
Oh cool post the links I would love to read that. Thanks.AirPods SE. $119 without wireless charging case, $159 with.

Wow, sounds horrible. Luckily, it’s not true.
A little research shows that because the value of the cobalt and other metals is rather low on such a small device, Apple—green, environmentally responsible company that they are—actually subsidizes the recycling of AirPods. That’s right. They pay the recycling company cash on the barrel head to make it worth the time and effort to properly recycle the AirPods.
That’s something you can bet your life that the makers of all those cheap AirPods knockoffs on eBay and Alibaba will never do. All those crappy knockoffs go straight into the landfill after they conk out in a few months 🙁
Of course, Apple would never be so irresponsible; you should have known better.
Thanks Tim Apple!
so we will agree to disagree. 1997 apple was a different beast. i am not talking about that. i am talking innovation vs product division jobs vs tim apple. one thing is clear. what apple is doing now is different than innovating.
my point is there is not innovation. there is only product division.
and my reply to your post remains entirely on point: if you don’t like the way the product line has been split by Tim Apple, tell us what’s wrong with it and how you’d change it.the fact that you guys would be surprised is more shocking. Tim Apple has been splitting up the product line as much as he can.
Oh cool post the links I would love to read that. Thanks.
Wistron’s representative disclosed to me that Apple pays his company to work on AirPods to cover the money it loses on each one. If recycling AirPods is a money-losing venture, that might help to explain why only Apple’s contracted partners are willing to do it. They are recyclable — but apparently not yet in an economical way.
You never made that point at all. You only mention innovation now, for the first time. You were talking about splitting up the product line:

What Really Happens to AirPods When They Die
Apple finally opens up about their complicated afterlifeonezero.medium.com
I don’t mind more options, and sometimes they come in at a lower price. Like the $329 iPad you refer to, and the upcoming iPhone “SE2”. Sometimes they are more expensive, like iPhone at $999+ or AirPods Pro.my whole point was that tim apple was only splitting the line. yeah i tend to write in a way that feel like talking so i make assumption that people understand what i am saying. sorry about that.
I can probable take out 30% of the line and still remain with the same amount of profit. the main things he has done especially in the past 2 years is increase the base price of his phones lines while decreasing the less profitable iPad line price. i guess for stock holders it great but eh. i miss expecting something exciting from steve. other than the new mac pro not much in my view has been exciting. then the price took the excitement out lol.
oh and thanks for the recycling article. i mean of course apple has always had a great recycle program.
and i tend to write terribly so excuse the random sentence structures.
