Okay, seems like I'm the only one here who likes the siri remote.

I have two minor complaints. One software related, one hardware related:

1) It's a bit too small (should be slightly taller)

2) I hate that when i want to search within an app (Youtube or Tidal for instance) and I press the 🔍 button it doesn't go to the search section of the app but to the general search function of Apple TV itself. That should be easy to fix with a software update.

Oh please tell me this is happening... please... I detest the current Apple TV remote.

Wishlist
- Make it bigger
- Make it heavier
- Useable in the dark
- More buttons... a lot more
- Remove the touch 'button' and use force touch (I'm constantly accidentally pressing it in error).

I could go on

There are some good aspects of the remote, so I hope that Apple doesn't ditch the good parts with the new design.
The swiping for various features just doesn't work all that well. MAybe they can improve it, or if not just get rid of it.

I do like the big buttons, its flat bottom, and that the volume control can be used without switching to the the AppleTV input.
I would like some more buttons (not 50 of them though) and be able to control some aspects of the TV eg change inputs

I mean - my TV remote has buttons for Netflix and YouTube (And a million other shortcut buttons). You know how many touch swipes it takes me to get to Netflix or YouTube on Apple TV? MANY. And swiping is horrible! And make it chunky. It doesn't live in my back pocket. It's not an iPod nano. It's a TV remote FFS.
It has those special purpose buttons because the TV manufacturer was paid to put them there. Apple won't do that, so no special purpose buttons like that.

1. Good luck scrolling through a long list of content with physical navigation buttons (click click click click click click click click click ...)

2. That being said, the ATV remote basically HAS physical navigation buttons. So you can scroll AND click.

I haven’t seen my Apple TV remote in a few months. I have 2 children under the age of 5 so it regularly goes missing in my house. I’ve had to recommission my iPhone SE as an Apple TV remote for the family to use.
I bought several of these on eBay, since I also have small kids. Cost nothing, protects it quite well, and adds a much needed splash of color to help locate it. And the kids love that we can change the color regularly. Excellent buy really.

I wish they'd make the existing remote work better with Macs. Remember back in the day when Macs actually shipped with a remote, and Mac OS had great support for it?

Now days you can pair the Siri remote with a Mac, but all it's good for is volume and play/pause. None of the other controls seem to work, and worse, half the time pressing the "Play" button just unhelpfully opens the Apple Music app.

Would be great if macOS's remote control support could be made to work as well as it did 10 years ago!

As long as it's not made of F#king GLASS again, I'll buy one on launch day, sick and tired of having remotes with cracked screens... $87 every time the kid drops on the concrete floor of our media room... makes me so angry! The last time I went to apple to replace the remove the freaking Genius guy says: Oh that's strange, I have never seen one of those broken before.
Me: Either you just started working here or you haven't met my son, pointing down to the little dude standing behind me. I said if you want I'll hire him for an hour and let him go loose in the shop, let's see how many things he can smash. It would be a good training experience for you. I'm sure you will never say something like that again.

Thank you. I bought one of these but I made the mistake of buying it in black so it didn’t help me in locating the remote. I’ve accepted defeat and I’ve ordered another one. I know the old one of will eventually turn up. However my 2 year old posted it through the letter box 🙈 and the top cracked. So I needed another one but I will buy a case with some colour this time!

I feel your pain. My latest remote was posted out the front door by my 2 year old and it cracked at the top. It’s actually currently lost somewhere in the house so I’ve just ordered another one.

Apple TV remote is the singular worst piece of design Apple has ever come up with.

- The touch pad is always either too sensitive, or not sensitive enough.
- It's symmetrical so you can't easily see which way to pick it up, but since the touch pad is so overly sensitive, picking it up the wrong way is likely to skip to the end of what you're watching.
- It's so small you lose it every day.
- Young kids cannot use it at all for all the above reasons.
- It's completely useless for games - which should have been a major push for Apple TV - but they initially forced all games to support it, completely killing Apple TV as a console competitor.

These discussions are always the same but just to add my vote for the current remote. I’ve never understood the hate for it. It does what it needs to do, is easily understood by all my family, doesn’t have horrible rubber buttons and gaps around them that end up gammed up by sticky child hands. A grippier reverse would likely prevent many of the issues with losing it. My daughter and I play Apple Arcade games and I wouldn’t want to use it as a controller but we have a PS4 controller for that.

Rumors that Apple intends to launch a new Apple TV have been around for some time, with the headlining feature being a more powerful processor for gaming and all-round performance benefits. However, alongside a new powerful chip, new evidence is pointing towards a possible new Apple TV remote also shipping alongside the TV set-top box.

According to a report from 9to5mac, citing people familiar with Apple's plans, the company has been developing a new Apple TV remote under the codename "B519," which differs from the current "B439" codename for the existing remote. Specifics on what to expect from the new remote aren't provided; however, 9to5mac believes the changes will be "significant."

The last time Apple updated the remote was with the Apple TV 4K in 2017, when the company added a white border around the Menu button. However, the remote has remained unchanged since, while its slimline design and lack of physical navigation buttons continues to divide users.

MacRumors recently discovered that within the tvOS 14.5 beta, Apple has renamed the remote from "Siri Remote" to "Apple TV Remote" in multiple instances across the system. The system-wide change in wording could indicate that the new remote will have less of a focus on Siri and instead be designed around more traditional content navigation and other TV functionality.

I think it works great. Especially for fast forward/rewind. What I would really like is a fingerprint scanner for confirming purchases and keeping the kids away content they should not have access to.

Best remote Apple ever designed.

It’s not perfect, but it is the best Apple made, yes. It was always pretty enjoyable to use, which I can’t say about the later touch pad remotes. It’d be great if the wheel was a click and touch wheel for fast scrolling though. And it could stand to be bigger. And taking from the Siri remote, the Siri and Home buttons and lightning charging would be good.
