I couldn’t stop myself from thinking “are these a joke?” looking at top-voted comments defending the remote…😂 I use my ATV every day and the remote is by far the worst thing about it. The ATV is, in fact, a great device! Yet, I have long dreamed of a new remote. Do I want there to be a million buttons on it? (Especially ones that are tied [like, BRANDED] to specific apps I never use, same as my “smart” TV remote?) No. But there has to be some kind of midway point between that and what we currently have. I can only hope for this to come out ASAP.

No issues with the remote - added a $8 Finite case and it improved the grip immensely.

I use Siri a lot on it for search and to control my smart lightbulbs if I don’t have my phone handy. I don’t foresee them ditching Siri - so much easier to ask her to find a show or movie or go back a certain amount of time than swiping to do it.

Best remote Apple ever designed.

Yes, although there were actually two versions of this with subtle differences. The earlier version had buttons that were very flush and harder to use (especially in the dark) because you couldn't "feel" them easily. The later version had a better feel to the buttons that made it much easier to use without looking.

On the other hand, this remote used IR which has some issues (can be blocked, etc). Bluetooth is certainly an improvement. And recharging with lightning is very nice - I wouldn't like to go back to having to change button cells.

I’ve got a couple of those in the house that I’ll never part with. The only possible improvement I thought they could make to that was to condense the play/pavse button in the center of the nav ring like it is on the iPod, a ui universally understood & loved, with the existing lower right button then becoming the mute button. That’d do it.

...that and bringing back Front Row so we can use them on our new macs the way we could use them on our old ones.

Wow, a whole article for what we already have heard over and over?

Just release the damn thing or discontinue it.

Am I the only one who never had a problem with this remote?

Don't get me wrong, I prefer the ATV over any other streaming device and an update is a day one purchase for me, but enough already with these endless rumors.

Some keys to the current remote: You tap corners to browse, don't swipe.

Get the rubber case off Amazon, completely changes the use/holding of the device.

That being said, a new one should have been designed by now, probably a year and a half ago, at least.

I don’t understand why anyone even uses the remote. Not becuse it’s bad but because your phone is almost always at hand, not lost down the back of the sofa and just seems like an easier alternative.
My phone always worked until a year ago and it’s been sketchy since then.

The current remote is so bad that when I did upgrade to a 4K TV I decided to go the Roku route rather than replace my AppleTV HD with an AppleTV 4K - That and the Apple 4K is 4 years old now. While there are things I don't like about the Roku or that AppleTV does better, there has not been a single piece of technology that has drove me more crazy than that AppleTV remote. Well maybe my first Roomba. And my parents (in 70s) hated it even more, so much so they refused to use it. Got them a Roku as well.

Yeah, but the "control center remote" is MUCH ******** than the now-discontinued Remote app. A friend of mine couldn't control his own Apple TV with the Control Center version, but I opened up the Remote app and controlled it.

Apple needs to get on top of the (physical) TV aspect a bit more.

Okay, seems like I'm the only one here who likes the siri remote.

I have two minor complaints. One software related, one hardware related:

1) It's a bit too small (should be slightly taller)

2) I hate that when i want to search within an app (Youtube or Tidal for instance) and I press the 🔍 button it doesn't go to the search section of the app but to the general search function of Apple TV itself. That should be easy to fix with a software update.
What do you mean? I love the Siri Remote 100%.
