Too little too late. Switched to Roku couldn't be happier (with a real remote). Does everything ATV does plus more.

I don't bother with it, I use remote app on iPhone and a Harmony remote to control the sound system and cable box. I hate all the stupid commercials that insult our intelligence so I mute the sound and use the cable guide to hide the video! Take that you stupid emu.

Good! Can't pick it up in the dark and know the orientation. If you breathe on it wrong, it activates. On top of that, the top face is glass, which there is no need. However, I was surprised how well it held up being thrown at a wall and sticking in the sheetrock. I guess it could double as throwing star.

I’m definitely in the minority, but I love the current AppleTV remote. It works very well for me 99.9% of the time. Every once in a while I have to reboot it, though.

The current Apple TV remote is the reason I’ve stuck with the Apple TV. We had one of the older ones, but I couldn’t stand using the click buttons to slowly get to whatever app I wanted to use, and then slowly using it to select what I wanted to watch. I love the swiping on the new remote and the best part for me is the skipping ahead or behind by 10 seconds rather than fiddling with fast-forward or rewind. The Siri feature is great and I honestly love almost everything about the remote. The only thing I don’t like is the glass on the bottom as this is really easy to break

Best remote Apple ever designed.

Better than the one from ATV4 for sure, but I think the one before, the white plastic one was even better. Much better in hand and the same controls as the aluminium one. Not pretty but functional. When I gifted an Apple TV4 to my father in law, I gave him one of the white ones after he gave up using the black one.

What about making the new remote a full touch surface with etched out, backlighted 'buttons' and haptic feedback?
(I know it's probably not very practical but it would look awesome!)

If a redesigned remote means I'll finally be able to properly control it with a Harmony, bring it on. Trying to do that now is like the seventh circle of hell with all the chaos brought on by touch controls.
i Control mine with a harmony remote, not sure what you mean by that....

So looks like I'm not the only one that doesn't hate the remote. I'd say I actually like it. I like the minimalist design, I like that it's small and sleek, and the touchpad is GREAT for scrubbing through videos.

However, it has two big, interrelated problems. It's too hard to pick it up without looking at it and know which way is up, and because of that, you wind up scrubbing though stuff when you don't want to. These are such big problems that, yes, it needs a redesign. But I hope they keep the touchpad.

‘while its slimline design and lack of physical navigation buttons continues to divide users.’

Divide users between those who hate it. And those who really hate it.
I find the Apple tv remote to be ok, but I might be the exeption due to living allone and thus beeing able to tweak the touch sensitivity to my own preferences without anyone else shouting youk, or "you are insane". further I find it nice not to have my phone in my hand when I navigate the interface, it cuts down on distractions

I have big hands! I had to make a 3D shell to hold the dam thing so I could even hold it!

Please Apple design it so real people can hold it!
