Then we can have find my friend's iPhone :).
I know you were joking, but I actually want this.

There have been many times where my wife asked me to help find her phone. The usual way is to call it and listen for the ringtone, but that doesn't work if the ringer is off.

"Find my friend's phone" would be the solution. Make it chirp loudly, even when muted, just like "Find my iPhone" does.

To keep this secure, of course, your friend would have to opt-in to this feature. I'd want my wife and daughter to be able to find my stuff, but I don't want non-family-members to have this same kind of access.

Yeah I know, I was saying I am not sure Apple would be able to disrupt a company that has almost perfected their product at this point.

I have several tile, but i found them in a local electronics store after seeing them stashed away. I've seen little to no marketing on them whatsoever anywhere here in Australia.

If apple releases something similar then tile is history. They'll advertise it far and wide, the same electronic stores will present them front and center and people that didn't know tile existed will want the apple product instead and that will be that. That is the power of apple unfortunately.

I’ve been hoping (and submitted a useless feature request) that the Apple Watch could send a notification when it disconnects from its iPhone when its not on its home or work network.

I did the same. I believe there are currently three apps in the App Store that claims the app achieves this. I’ve been duped on all three apps lol. Shame on me...

To further this, I submitted a request to get the “Find My iPhone “ app on the watch like it has “Find My Friends”. Not everyone has access to an iPad or Laptop all the time and would be nice to locate a lost phone directly from the watch before it’s long gone.

Bluetooth disconnect notification and Find My IPhone on the watch would seriously decrease missing iPhones

Odds are the tracker device will be sealed tight. Battery will last a year then be thrown in the trash. Making more consumable plastic things that will likely end up in a landfill. Not cool very environmentally friendly Apple.

can't wait for the keynote: "The biggest thing Apple created, completely revolutionary, never seen before... you can track anything you want..." (just like Tile)

Please elaborate on this...

I assume s/he is talking about this:

Tiles are already expensive (for me). Apple would have to be at least twice as expensive because thats what Apple do now. I just don't fancy paying $50 for an Apple branded Tile.

Those Tile devices need to use GPS not Bluetooth. I went hiking in Canada and lost the keys to the rental car luckily someone picked them up and placed them on a tree stump (the hiking community is just awesome) otherwise we were screwed but afterwards I looked at getting some Tile squares but they only use Bluetooth and only responds when you're close to the tile.

I can see an option where, if you find a tagged device and have an iPhone, bring them close together and NFC will trigger an option to send an anonymous “I found your stuff” message to the registered owner.

I recently discovered that lost or stolen Airpods (case and pods) are not easily found. Correct me if I'm wrong (please!), but it seems whoever finds them can simply pair them as their own. It would be great if they could be tracked with crowd-sourced data - and password protected. Ideally, lost Airpods would be useless to the non-owner.

I predict this technology will be built into at least the case for AirPods, and it may we’ll be able to buy a new case like the wireless charge case rather than needing to buy a whole new set.

There are two solutions to this. First, if your wife is with you (or you know her iCloud password) then she / you can login to Find My iPhone on your device - and feature can be used with any credentials.

Second, form a family sharing group with your wife and you will automatically have access to her device info, too, without needing to do that if you are the ‘head’ of the family.

There’s an indicator on the watch that tells you exactly that.
But doesn’t alert you.

Why doesn't Apple do what they usually do? Buy out the company, (tile) rebrand and stick 40% on top for the new price?
That Tile ever thought it was a good idea to release a product that could not be recharged and needed ongoing replacement as part of the intended performance schedule makes it incredibly pathetic in my eyes. The solution was always so obvious, except not to them apparently.

Instead of using the mute button, use Do Not Disturb. Mark your wife as a favourite and allow calls from favourites in settings.

Cool. ...something small and light, you can put in your bicycles seat tube? Or something small and light beagle owners can attach to a collar?

Not that we don’t enjoy surprise late night expeditions...

Popular meaningful things that go missing: Dogs & Cats, Bikes, Cars, Luggage. If a geofence can be set around the trackers location, and an alarm set for crossing it with its location on a map, that’ll save Apple users a ton of kids tears, headaches, insurance screwovers, and worthless police reports.

Am I the only one that doesn’t want these apps combined? I deleted FmF because I don’t give a rats where they are and I don’t want them to know where I am.

I do hope FmF can be deleted and removed completely, not just inactivated. Also I hope I am able to disable or inactivate the crowdsourced location sharing functionality as well.

Apple can do something that Tile can never do which is leverage its worldwide installed base of iPhones, iPads, Macs, HomePods and AppleTVs to find a tag virtually anywhere in the world. A lost tag could ping any Apple device and relay its location to the owner.

I hate to say it but Tile are sitting ducks. There's no way they can win this.

I fear it might be well too late though. The only problem i've heard about tiles after using them since launch is non replaceable batteries which they just fixed. I'm not sure if I'm willing to pay Apple $50 for the same thing

Tile's privacy policy is a bit iffy though, would feel better about Apple knowing all that location data instead.

I have been a Tile user since the first generation. I think Tile squandered its lead with many blunders.
  1. I find Tile Pro to be incredibly ugly. It looks as if it's designed by Kim Kardashian, using plastic to simulate metallic look.
  2. Cheaper Tile Mate looks far sleeker, but only when new. It gets dirty real quick.
  3. Tile should consolidate Tile Pro and Tile Mate, embedding Tile Pro's superior tech but in more minimalist Tile Mate design, and in various colors.
  4. When Tile is inside your pocket, like when used as a keychain, it is all too easy to accidentally trigger.
  5. Scammy "Replace Tile" warning on non user replaceable model (e.g.., Tile Slim). My Tile Slim was activated almost 2 years ago and still working fine. But Tile app has been warning me to replace it well over a year ago.
  6. Tile Slim is too thick. Tile should've made it thinner by making it the size of a credit card.
  7. Tile Premium subscription isn't a bad value ($30/year for additional tracking capabilities and battery replacement for every Tiles in your plan). But it's a weak business model without compelling new hardware to hook people into upgrading. I worry about their sustainability, especially now that Apple maybe entering their market.
  8. Lack of ultra premium version with GPS, cellular, and rechargeable battery. In a form factor that can be used for tracking pet, bike, child, and other valuables.
