"We don't comment on unreleased products." Everyone knows the answer so why waste the question?

Well, they should have asked them “Is your holiday lineup set?”

They answered that question last year after the earnings call.

It'll only go up. Apple's strongest quarter is always the Winter Quarter.

People need to keep a level head about apple stock or any stock, or they'll get hurt. You just can't say with any certainty that "it'll only go up". That might seem reasonable. It might seem likely. But it sure ain't certain.

A couple of examples of drops in apple price:

From about 85 in jan 06 to 50, seven months later, a drop of 41%.

From about 200 in dec 07 to 119 less than three months later, a drop of 41%.

From 177 in aug 08 to 83 three months later, a drop of 53%.

Couldn't happen again? Don't kid yourself. The guys posting on here about their $15 shares have ridden the stock through lots of ups and downs. I've got shares i paid as little as $34 for, and as much as $181 for, and i've bought and sold at many points in between, taking profits and on a few occasions a loss. My basis now is $85. It's been great for me. It's my biggest single holding. But (as i said in another post) I'm gonna try to keep it to around 10% of my total.

Some of you guys know this, some don't: there's a simple investment strategy of selling when an investment exceeds a certain percentage of your assets, and buying when it gets below that percentage. It's called rebalancing. It results in your buying when prices are down, selling when they're up. Not a bad plan.

Am I the only one able to see the horrible irony of this post?

Probably, because most of us don't pay much attention to that poster. Too much over the top fanboism to spend the effort to read the posts - which always say that the by far larger products are dead.

Jim Cramer's BS continues

Cramer claims to be confused by Apple missing on iPhone Sales:

- Strong sales at iTunes Store, customers loving iTunes 9
- iPhone sales: almost 7.4 million in quarter, a new record

Mr. Cramer needs to think before he speaks.

Last year Apple told us when they had finalized their holiday lineup. I don't see they they would refuse to do so this year. In other words, if someone asked and they said "we don't comment on unreleased products" that would be sufficient to tell us that there are more products coming this year.

You mean he isn't a joke account?

Apple is spending more on air freight in order to get "non iPhone products" into the holiday season.
It is being called "abnormal".

New iMac's tomorrow!
The new iMacs won't be out for a few more weeks. As far as I can tell both Dell and HP are saying that products using the new quad-core i7 Mobile won't ship until late October or very early November. Apple will most likely have to wait until they have enough units to actually do the introduction -- I'm thinking Oct. 27 or at the latest Nov. 3). This could be the reason for the need of increased air freight. Otherwise, they could have just loaded the boats up last month instead of waiting until the last minute for the Christmas rush.

Great quarter. Well done. :apple:

Maybe when they get to $50 billion in the bank they'll toss us a bone in the form of an affordable i7 tower with a choice of more than one video card and a full line ACDs that aren't 3 years old and twice as expensive as other monitors.

I find these number most interesting. Look at desktop and laptop sales. (First column is Q3 209, second is Q4 2008 and the third is Q4 2009)
Yes, they show desktop units have decreased but that's really no surprise. Most likely that's an industry trend as everyone is going mobile.

Does 7% increase of iPhone seem low to other people?

Compared to 35% increase of laptops and 100% increase of iPod touch.

How long would it take for people to start arguing iPhone sales has already reached plateau?:confused:

No one wants to buy a > 1K computer built out of very old laptop parts!

Too bad no one wants to buy a >$1K computer anymore.

It isn't 1K that is the problem my MBP costs more than 1K. The problem is the quality of the product you are getting, in this case low quality is correlated to outdated CPU's on the iMac and Apple being far to stingy with the clock rate on the Mini.

However this:
Q: iPhone supply issues due simply to supply and demand or also component constraints? More air freight costs?
A: Demand outstripped supply, so that was the primary driver. That's a nice problem to have. But because of that, it did create some component shortages. Silicon is usually hardest to come by, but we were able to solve the bulk of these issues. Air freight issues not necessarily due to iPhone, but due to rushing products for holiday seasonality. Can't be specific about the products driving the increased cost this year though.
is very very interesting. People need to read that and then contemplate just what is he talking about. A new iMac, Mini, XMac or a tablet maybe.

Clearly he is indicating a rush on a product to be here for the holidays. Of course it is up to us to guess what that product is. I'm just leaning towards something entirely new.

Apple's Cash and short-term marketable securities total $34 billion vs. MSFT's $31 billion.

Many financial advisors would consider it foolish to have huge piles of cash, vs investing (that is, "spending") that money on improving the product lines.

So, with Apples' smaller market cap and larger "cash" position than Microsoft, those analysts would say that Microsoft is the better managed company.

I don't see it myself, so don't worry...MS IS REALLY DEAD. AND SO IS DELL.

Yeah, that's why they have 95% of the marketshare. Apple's really making a dent in that corporate world!

Put down the Kool Aid, dude. Everything's gonna be just fine.

“We’ve got a very strong lineup for the holiday season and some really great new products in the pipeline for 2010.”

I'm on board!

Same here - I'll be employed once again ... this time no longer as a contractor :D (hoping the next two interviews go solid, if not then contract for at least 1yr and I'm buying PowerMac G5 Dual 2.0 just cause I've ALWAYS wanted one, and MB_Unibody/MBP 13" becuase I WANT one!

Another record. Record Mac sales. Record iPhone sales.

Wow. Recession-proof Apple does it again.

Hellz yeah! To Dell ... suck on DEEEZ NUTTTZ!
(how you like them trail mix ;)

Why oh why didn't I buy into Apple like six months ago? :(

yeah I know ... at $60/common stock! I know why I didn't, I was more broke than a hobo. What is your excuse :p

Who said Apple's Golden Years where in the late 80's??

More likely quadruple or better.

Apples needs a "mainline" desktop. They have some nice portables but their desktop lineup has only "niche products" that are no t in line with what most people want. If they had a mainstream desktop I bet sales would more than double

The problem with the iMac is that it is simply way to expensive for the level of performance one gets out of it. It is basically built around outdated hardware and frankly a poorly engineered machine from the standpoint of serviceability. I have friends that have purchased such but it is not by my recommendation. I could be a far better machine if Apple simply thinks about the iMac with a different mindset.

Of course fixing the iMac to make it salable doesn't solve the issue of not having a real desktop. A properly designed and innovative platform could easily quadruple Apples desktop sales. This I have no doubt in at all. I'm not talking a dirt cheap XMac which everyone assumes you mean when talking about XMacs, rather I'm talking about a desktop at around $1000.

I've got my blinkers on and just thinking iMac iMac iMac. But good point about the tablet.. would be a smart move having it ready for the holiday season. Imagine how many parents would be going "whoa I could get some serious cool points" for getting their kid the latest and greatest gadget, whatever it is :p
