Or maybe it's just people like me and you that are simply not informed about what people really care about.

Myself, I would love to see quad core in an iMac (or heck, a laptop, for that matter), but that's only because I'm a computer geek that thumps his chest about such things. Not that I wouldn't use them if I had them (you can never apply a photoshop filter fast enough), but if the other cores are not there and the operation takes a few seconds or even minutes longer, it doesn't affect my quality of life.

Most students, their parents, or casual users don't notice either. The people who do notice are the people buying XServes or Mac Pros. They notice and care. Another set of people that notice are gamers who would like to put Lamborgini engines in Yugo bodies - and a superfast headless mac with lots of expandability would be perfect for them.

But Apple decided a long time ago that that is simply not a market that they care about. Years ago in fact. We can continue to mourn that fact or we can simply move on. For me, I just got old and no longer have the need for such a machine (my game playing days ended long ago). If you aren't there yet, you can generally get kit like that sub $800 running windows, and you should. Apple has decided that is not a market they care about, and will do very little to court your business.

It definitely makes me feel silly for blasting Apple for not making the products *I* want. I can't fault them when it seems they have a license to print their own money.

All-in-one desktops just suck so damn much....:(

Doh!

Don't feel bad dude, I sold about 10% of my AAPL at the end of February. I was thinking the sky was falling. Glad I kept the other 90% though - it's my life savings...

Give that a second thought, BT, and then a third one. Apple's performance is great but you should diversify. I've sold 250 shares of apple in the past couple weeks, at around 187-188, because it had grown to considerably more than 10% of my investments. Sure it's hard on me to see it bump to over 200 in after market trading today. But you have to have some investment principles. Mine is to not have more than 10% in any holding. I'll sell a little more over the next week or so to get down to 10%.

Apple wouldn't be the first stock to lose half its value independent of movements in the general market. Heck, i'll bet there are some examples of that just in the past several years with aapl. I MAY lose out on some gains, but I'll DEFINITELY avoid the risk of greater losses should the unforeseen happen.

It's fun investing in a company we care so much about. Don't put the company in a position where it can devastate you.

I feel sorry for those paying so much for a Core 2 laptop on a stick then.

The "laptop on a stick" schtick is getting old. My 24" iMac is the ideal computer for my needs, "laptop on a stick" or not. You concern yourself with things that most consumers do not, hence Apple's continued success despite the naysayers' gripes.

So, where are the ABSOLUTE MORONS that keep on criticizing Apple for selling the best products in the whole damn industry? Where are the PUNDITS that keep pronouncing the company dead, or proposing stupid lineups that 99% of the market don't want or need?

Once more and AS ALWAYS, Apple leads the way as the best, most profitable and most successful personal IT company EVER.

Thank you SJ, for blowing away any of the benighted analysts' predictions again, and for demonstrating once and for all that the company knows EXACTLY what people want, despite the ridiculous comments by some of your detractors here in this forum.

MS IS ABSOLUTELY DEAD. AND SO IS DELL. GO APPLE!

You definitely win the fan boy award, again. :D

Oh please tell me you don't have your life savings in apple stock and really truly believe that. There is no such thing as a safe haven stock. I love AAPL as much as the next guy but don't blind yourself dude.

I've held since 2003. I had stock from 1998 I used for other needs.

I'm not trying to brag, but I'm excited to the point of having to share this with someone: back in January, I bought a VERY large block of shares when AAPL was at $80. I did this, because to me, the market had clearly gone too far in the sell-off in regards to AAPL. Best stock decision I've ever made...

In the words of Forrest Gump: "We got rich off some fruit company in California."

:D

Am I the only one able to see the horrible irony of this post?

Why would I consider a Mac Pro or XServe again? You're looking at my perspective wrong as well. Apple's desktop days are numbered. Their notebook options are much better.

Falling desktop sales are not an Apple phenomenon. Industry wide, laptop sales grew 10% while desktops fell by 23%.

Quite true, netbook share gains are ridiculous right now too.

I tend to agree - though there's an amazing resale market for Mac all-in-ones.
Which is nice for the seller but you end up being unable to hold onto an iMac. It was never good enough in the first place.

Like what Microsoft does?
A yearly 100% profit dividend would give us 3.50% at the current trade, not that bad but not the reason to buy AAPL.

No, but at some point you have to spend it or give the money back to investors. It’s their money. Apple has cash reserves that are of similar amounts to Microsoft, a company that’s nearly 40% more its size.

Apple is not a bank. :D

My numbers do not include netbooks.

I can't believe no one explicitly asked if Apple has any new products coming before Christmas.

(With that said, I would not be at all surprised to see new iMacs tomorrow. They iMac is in need of a refresh, the new CPUs should be available by now, and if they don't release within the next couple of weeks, Apple will have to wait until at least mid January at which time they will be way overdue.)

Why do I get the feeling that you are the type that must upgrade the second that new graphics card comes out.

I'm rushing to do so right now.

How about no. My most recent upgrade was moving from a Q6600 to a Core i5 750 on my desktop. My MacBook will have to be pried from my cold dead hands because it runs the ever so perfect 10.5 Leopard.

I really wanted someone to ask if Apple plans to continue investment in the Apple TV.
