Oh how I wish I had bought stock when Jobs was just coming back on board. I seem to remember it has being around $10.00 share in the late 90's. But, at least I have some now. And, I keep contributing to their bottom line. Drink the Koolaid!!

They asked the right question about LTE -- just didn't get the answer I wanted to hear.

but what do you expect? For them to say "Yes, we LOVE LTE and we can't wait to show you our new iPhone with LTE!"...

... if only.

So the Verizon deal really didn't help them with the iPhone and Apple lost again more marketshare in the smartphone market. Not good especially as Google now ships almost 40 million Android phones per quarter. Maybe a cheap iPhone nano might help Apple to get back into a competing position.

iPhone sales grew an astounding 113 percent year over year, reaching 18.65 million for the quarter.

Google doesn't ship phones. And the 40 million is all phones, not smart phones where Apple plays.

Stop spreading misinformation.

Except of course for those who want to listen to music. Touch screen and features are rather useless to me in the car. And the iPod Touch is much too big, compared to my iPod nano.

Has anyone ever explained the meaning of "gross margin" to you?

Sorry.
However, their profit margin (not gross margin) is around 25%. Profit for 2010 was 14 billion, revenue was 65 billion. Operating income was 18.4 billion.

nice...however, "100 million books downloaded" really can be heavily biased.

1)how many were free books?

2)how many people are actually READING them?...in their entirety? Not iphone or ipod users...must be iPad...and pretty much everyone agrees that reading a 200+ page book on an iPad is very strainful on the eyes.

Google ships not a single phone. It provides a free OS (from which it makes little money) to handset makers that sell phones. None of those handset makers sell a phone as popular as the iPhone, and all of them combined do not make as much money doing so. If one is comparing iOS (all devices) to Android (all devices), recent data suggests iOS is the more widely used.

Google does not actually ship any smartphones per quarter. They are the name on a disjointed platform. No version of Android has ever shipped 40 million units in a quarter..

And? They are still losing marketshare. Apple is growing much slower than the market. And yes Android ships more *phones* than Apple ships *total* iOS *devices* (iPhone, iPod touch, iPad) per quarter (40 million Android smartphones compared to 33 million iOS devices).

This is just out today. HTC Thunderbolt outsold iPhone at Verizon. There's goes your cute little theory.

Make no mistake, this is an amazing quarter for Apple, but it's not the only one doing well in the smartphone boon.

Again google ships nothing at all. Show me data indicating a single quarter where a major version of Android was shipped on 40 million compatible units and then you can start making iOS comparisons.

THis whole concept of iOS and Android being the same kind of thing or worse iPhone and Android being the same sort of thing is beyond absurd. There is no way a reasonably informed person buys into it.

Billions of dollars in App sales versus millions of dollars in app sales is all you really need to care about when we discuss platforms..

I think that was pre-announcement. I read where trading was halted until 4:50 EDT. Still have 7 minutes to see if the "soft" iPad numbers cause the weak hands to sell.

I'm guessing that Apple will drop about 3% from the 4PM close with people focusing on the iPad numbers.

Guess I was completely wrong.

Not necessarily wrong on the drop. Give it a few days. I think it will drop as people take their profits and run. It has a habit of doing that. Especially when you add on the weakness of the USA right now. The deficit isn't going away.

Personally, I wish I had sold at $360 and bought again at $320... Oh well. Part of the fun with stocks, figuring out when to buy and when to sell.

LOL back in 2008 all Fandroids were screaming "MARKET-SHARE DON"T MATTER," now Apple Fans are screaming it. Who cares.

And? No one expects Apple to be the market share leader. There are dozen of companies selling Androids. None come close to Apple's market share. None come close to Apple's profitability.

As an AAPL holder, what more can I ask?

You quoted a BGR story on a sourceless report from ITG, good show. I can throw up a blog and claim just the opposite if it makes you feel better.

The iPhone was the #1 selling phone (not smart phone) in 2010. You are getting excited that in its launch month a brand new phone might have outsold one that is almost a year old?

AAPL was about $7.50/share (split adjusted) in December 2001.

Q: How are you seeing different opportunities in the large enterprises with your MacBook given the greater receptiveness to the iPhones and tablets. Is it opening doors to get Macs in?
A: Clearly seems to be creating a halo effort for the Mac. In part why we're seeing growth on the Mac side.

I am guilty to be contributing to this. If I had never bought my iPhone 3GS in October 2009 I would not be buying a 27" iMac this year at 2011 refresh as well as getting an iPad2 by year's end. I also will be upgrading to iPhone 5. So yes if it wasn't for the IOS device I wouldn't be helping the Mac revenue. The IOS devices are definitely bringing new customers for the Mac

Ha, I remember the days when "EPS" meant Encapsulated PostScript.

I like these days better!

I could easily name 3...
Me, myself, and I? ;)

I've repaired so many Android phones lately ... they nailed the "fragmentation" part head on. Thanks for building nice products that I rarely ever need to repair, Apple! Here's to another strong next few quarters too!

All these crazy profits quarter after quarter, and they can't lower the prices...

Unreal greed.

Lowering prices when you already can not manufacturer enough units is just foolish. Apple is strategically gathering cash so they can make more investments and make new products.

Investors win because the growth stock grows, consumers win because Apple will use their money to re-create or create another new product category.
