Oh yeah, I forgot excuses can be used only in favor of Apple. Kind of like you did here with this attempt to divert the discussion towards Samsung.

Oh the irony of this comment.

Here's a sobering data point: Apple's net earnings this year are the same as they were four years ago:

https://www.cnbc.com/2019/07/31/san...product-of-buyback-financial-engineering.html

Very poor attempt at spin. Apple had an unusually good year when the iPhone 6 came out and their numbers spiked much higher than normal. People always try to bring up 2015 results for comparison to make it look like Apple is doing bad. Sorry, not buying it.

So you're saying the iPhone 6 represents the zenith of Apple's success? And that mentioning how earnings are the same as four years ago is spin to make them look bad?

I have to laugh at the mental gymnastics and hoops people will jump through to try to make this (yet again) seem like Apple is somehow doing poorly.
Really? I'm doing the same, laughing at the mental gymnastics and hoops you will jump through to try to make excuses in Apple's favor.

I really wonder - does your life happiness revolve around the requirement that a company fail?

Well take look at yourself first before you try to judge me.

Oh I forgot. Samsung with its diverse portfolio can’t have a down quarter. Samsung better be careful they do t go the way of BBRY.

Samsung is more than fine. Their product portfolio is very diversified. For example in the next months their silicon manufacturing business should pick up speed with the manufacturing of chips for Nvidia's next gen GPUs and Qualcomm's next flagship SOC.
Of course Samsung is fine. Dishwashers, dryers, refrigerators, phones and custom chips. I guess it’s not only “Apple fans” that use the line “..... will be fine”.

Oh look, a straw man. Not what I said.

It's precisely what you said. You claimed it was unfair to compare earnings today to four years ago due to the "spike" of earnings from the success of the iPhone 6. That is saying the iPhone 6 represents the zenith of Apple's performance.

People still buy Huawei stuff?

UK and US companies are ripping out Hikvision CCTV cameras because they are owned by the Chinese government so I wouldn't take the risk of buying anything Huawei personally but each to their own, obviously security is not such a concern for others.
I guess, Huawei is lucky that US and UK comprise the small fraction of the world population.

I can only speak for myself. I definitely don't want Apple to fail or be "doomed" or whatnot because I want to continue using their products but the products themselves aren't making it easy for me. I'd welcome a stark revenue dip only if it merited a rude awakening for some complacent c-suite bobbleheads like Schiller and Cue, and a reminder that they need to step up their game product-wise or else. Besides, the earnings news is of interest to analysts and investors and of no practical value to people actually using Apple products. My wishful thinking would have been that Apple might even funnel some of their war chest into serious R&D rather than stock buybacks en masse.

My happiness as an Apple user is almost flatlining, but for my life happiness there are way more important things to consider ;)

Apple had a very good quarter. Simply accepting that fact isn't making excuses. However, trying desperately to frame this quarter as bad is the very definition of "making excuses".

Well take look at yourself first before you try to judge me.
I never directed this comment at you, so why are you acting like I was specifically talking about you? Must have hit close to home, I guess.

So Apple is flat and if it wasn’t for growth in services and wearables they’d be tanking. Or to put a positive spin on it, wearables and service growth helps to offset poor iPhone sales.

Pay no attention to that net income drop behind the curtain....?

(fire, spins wheels, twists knobs, pushes buttons)
Interesting. Constant complaining on the forum that Apple charges too much (not saying the complaints came from the poster quoted above), that the “Apple Tax” is too high (a term popular with trolls and people who cannot actually comparatively value products), that Apple is too greedy with its margins. But when the margins do drop, when Apple does, in fact, take less profit, well apparently that’s when the end is near.

It definitely “sucks to be Apple” on this forum; damned if you do and damned if you don’t. Personally, I am very glad I own Apple Stock and continue to be playing the long game despite having been told many times over the years that the end is near. Go ahead, ask me how that’s working out for me.

Nice summary... Some people are perpetually unhappy. Sucks to be them.

Interesting graph.

counterpoint-q2-2019-global.jpg

Xiaomi has a high chance to take the number 3 spot in terms of unit shipments in the next 2-3 quarters.

What's interesting about comparing Big Macs to Filet Mignon? Why compare sales of phones starting at $39 (Android) to premium phones (iPhone)?

Oh right, because "Apple is killing it" doesn't get nearly as many hits for sites as "Apple is doomed" does. So analysts will keep "lying" to get that traffic and make up these stupid charts that offer nothing of value to anyone.

Capitalization back up to $1 trillion now! Doomed for sure.
Capitalization is doing fine but it's all financial engineering. Apple's income is at the same level as it was four years ago. And that's partly due to price increases. On the other hand, iPhone's global marketshare dips to 10.1% amid rise of Samsung & Chinese brands. If Apple does not change their ways, their market share will drop to the level where it will be irrelevant (Mac in 1990s was at what, 5%?).

So adorable! People have been leading with those words for years!

Maybe write a letter to Mr. Cook and give him a heads-up?

Nice, I keep seeing my stock go up and up when it's getting all these downgrades by analysts. Looks like their services are doing just fine, which will be where they shift focus to as the iphone sales dwindle.

Edit: woohoo up again today, just checked, 217.92. Holy crap I haven't checked it in a few weeks but I seem to remember it was hovering around 200 not that long ago?

So Samsung’s earnings were just announced and profit was down 56%.

The March quarter this year it was down 60%.

And people are thinking Apple is somehow doing bad?
Yeah. Lot of really smart people on this forum. At least they think they are really smart.

The shift to services is going well. I wonder...as the focus strays from hardware to services. If services will suffer if hardware sales dwindle? Just thinking out loud so to speak. Does the hardware drive the services sales?
