Apple TV 2 sales?

What about apple TV 2 sales?

I know they sold over a million but did they talk about it?

Let's hope a good chunk of this goes to innovation. :D

Yeah. I want an Apple TV.

NOT an AppleTV [I already have an ATV v.2], but an actual Apple branded, large screen television display with iOS access to my Apps and the App Store. Forget Samsung and their App tv's, Apple will slaughter them!

Imagine using an Apple keyboard and Magic trackpad combination [I think we'll be seeing the mouse replaced by the Magic Trackpad in the near future - that's probably why the MT is the exact same height/depth as the current Apple keyboard], or even a full keyboard sized, two handed input Magic Trackpad.

That would be so cool.

We'll probably see a fused bluetooth Apple keyboard/Magic Trackpad combo become standard [probably the same size as Apple's current wired numeric keypad keyboard] and the mouse will be killed. Anyone who wants/needs a mouse can then choose Apple's or anyone else's separately.

I should have added phone carriers to the list. Perhaps a smaller one without an iphone yet? T-mobile?
Nah, Apple wouldn't buy a phone company. They consider mobile operators to be dumb pipes. A utility.

It would be like Apple trying to buy PG&E.

They buy companies that are innovating. There is nothing innovative about a phone company.

Where is a the stock split?????

You only split if you want to make the stock SEEM less expensive in order to attract new investors. AAPL doesn't need to do that, ergo there won't be a split.
Splits are like placating a child who wants more cake by cutting his piece in two and saying 'see, you now have TWO pieces!!'.

I know this sounds far fetched, but I think over the next 20 years, personal robots will start to develop a market. A niche one at first but as with everything it will grow.

I mean look, all those cool things you saw as a kid in sci-fi shows and movies have arrived. Take smart phones for example. i mean the idea of being able to do all those things on the go 25 years ago was the stuff of movies. Some of the features on these newer vehicles also bring one back to shuttle craft in star trek for instance. On board computers with navigation. Some park themselves. If only they would fly...

Anyway robots are not here yet in every day life. They only make the news and sit around research labs. Their larger industrial cousins have been around for some time but that is something else.

Take a segway, slap a robotic arm on it along with some software to manage tasks and you've got the start of an industry. Don't forget the iphone app to interact with it.

I'm not saying Apple should declare this their new focus. But perhaps taking some lead in directing this field over the next decade would be profitable with time?

There's no need for Apple to make a TV. They just need to put a dock connector on Apple TV and wait for everyone else to start making TVs that Apple TV docks into, just like the speaker docks that are everywhere.

Apple did split back in 2005 though

I love Tim Cook's comment:

"The next generation, which we saw at CES, they're not shipping yet. They lack performance specs, shipping info, pricing. They're vapor."

I cheerfully admit my ignorance in such matters, but how does a stock buyback benefit a company?

I'm no expert but from my logic it benefits in a way that you have more control of the company. Shareholders can vote on stuff and decisions, so someone or a group having lots of money who bought lots of APPL stock can have say in some decisions even though they have no clue whats best for the company and have their own interests.

Thats my understanding.

They've done 3 IIRC. They don't do them anymore. It seems to be a Google/Eric Schmidt thing that Apple adopted.

I was thinking of google too. That stock has been up in the $400 - $500 range for some time. It is sort of a psychological thing this idea of splitting. No matter the number of shares, if you buy $1000 worth and it doubles, you have $2000. I imagine it is important when the public can't afford to invest a lot so you hope to attract more smaller investments. That's my guess anyway.
