I love Tim Cook's comment:

"The next generation, which we saw at CES, they're not shipping yet. They lack performance specs, shipping info, pricing. They're vapor."

-in regard to Google-based tablets.
And when Apple releases the iPad 2, some of them will scrap their designs and go back to the drawing board. Just like last year.

Do you see a pattern emerging?

:D

Yes, very impressive but do any of you realise that this is the result of all of us agreeing to pay 'Apple tax'? What is Apple going to do with $51 billion in cash? Lowering prices? No. When will it be enough? $75 billion? $100 billion? When?

There is no "Apple tax." It is the fee you pay for outstanding customer service.

You can go elsewhere and pay less. Just be prepared for unintelligible tech support specialists and your malfunctioning, brand new PC being replaced with a refurbished one (as has happened to many of my friends).

Exactly - Apple products aren't sold with an "Apple tax", they are only worth as much as people are willing to pay for them. If they can sell as many as they currently are, with the current price/profit setup, why would they change that?

Apple is a business, at what point should they ever sacrifice profitability just to make people who don't understand economics happy? They obviously know exactly what they're doing; I wouldn't aim to change their minds.

Yeah. I want an Apple TV.

NOT an AppleTV [I already have an ATV v.2], but an actual Apple branded, large screen television display with iOS access to my Apps and the App Store. Forget Samsung and their App tv's, Apple will slaughter them!

Imagine using an Apple keyboard and Magic trackpad combination [I think we'll be seeing the mouse replaced by the Magic Trackpad in the near future - that's probably why the MT is the exact same height/depth as the current Apple keyboard], or even a full keyboard sized, two handed input Magic Trackpad.

That would be so cool.

We'll probably see a fused bluetooth Apple keyboard/Magic Trackpad combo become standard [probably the same size as Apple's current wired numeric keypad keyboard] and the mouse will be killed. Anyone who wants/needs a mouse can then choose Apple's or anyone else's separately.

There you go!!!

Apple should go into the space industry

With their cash reserves and the profits they are now making, they could run a space program all on their own with a budget as big (or bigger!) than NASA's and STILL have cash left over!

"Apple tax" is a small price to pay for the financial improvement my business has gained due to getting rid of crappy Windows and piece of junk Dells and HP's. I would gladly pay more money for the money Apple has saved for my business.

I wish i was older and knew about stocks when Apple was just starting over with it's then iCEO. I would've been making a killing right now.

*sigh*

I receive some pretty handsome dividends from other stocks I'm invested in. Over 40% of my portfolio is Apple, (15+ yrs) in which I have a massive amount of shares, yet little or no dividend. It's just how it is / was with SJ at the helm.

At some point as the next CEO steps in, he or she's less polarizing demeanor will really attract throngs of new customers and investors. There will also be dividends for all, as the board is far less than thrilled with the current practice.

While its very smart to put it back in the business, Apples cash cow is so fat it's about to explode. Let's be honest, dividends could be distributed as well as putting a tremendous amount back into the operation.

Apple will be growing for quite some time.

AAPL after market high of $357 but way down to $345. I expect it to soar tomorrow though. So glad I bought 10 more at $334. Looking forward to cashing in my 50 but really not sure went I will.

Not enough to make me rich but still want to get the maximum I can!

"Q: On the MacBook Air, any insights on how you're viewing the platform...a premium tablet or a notebook?
A: It was a phenomenal part of our growth during the quarter. The customers love it...they love the thinness, the precision, the instant-on, etc. We're really happy with it as a starting block. We've only been shipping it for less than 90 days, so we're just getting going."

Haha nice avoidance of the question.

Yea no kidding. Instead of spending a huge chunk of cash on a down payment for my house, which hasn't gained value (and thankfully hasn't really lost any) I wish I would have invested in a AAPL at $80 a share. :(

Wow, NO questions about Steve's health?
Not at all appropriate in this setting, and the threat of his potential/sudden incapacity has been (mostly) priced into the stock for a while now anyway.

Have to laugh at the tablet discussion. Assuming most of the rumors are true regarding iPad 2, they sure are being aggressive for a company that thinks there's no competition in the market. Maybe they're taking the lesson they learned from Android's rise as a Smartphone OS? That is, while the iPhone is very, very popular, it will never be to the cell-phone what the iPod is to the MP3 player. But they're still in the driver's seat in the tablet market, and they can make the iPad the beginning and the end if they're aggressive enough early on. And an iPod-like dominance for the iPad would certainly be a clever backdoor into the enterprise market with OS X.

Apple should buy:
A. Microsoft
B. Nintendo
C. Sony
D. All of the above
E. None of the above
F. Other__________

For each of choices A-D or F: Check how much it would cost. Then ask yourself how it would benefit Apple, if at all. Then ask yourself if there is any chance that it would benefit Apple enough to get their money's worth.

I just revisited some HILARIOUS articles from tech geniuses and gurus from earlier this year...

First, the laugh-riot predictions of the iPad failing completely. Any sane person knew that prediction was stupid. Clever people were looking back at the old iPod thread on here and noticing an eerie similarity setting in.

Then, they said the iPad MIGHT actually sell 7 million across the entire year... IF LUCKY.

Oh, those prescient tech-monkies. I loved seeing them fail the Darwin awards.

Pretty friggin' astounding, that's for sure. I own a good amount of AAPL (by my meager standards, at least), but it makes me wish I owned more.

Congratulations! 50 shares is still not too shabby ... maybe you can hold out for a dividend one day .. I keep some shares, myself, so that each time I buy an Apple product I won't feel as bad paying the premium price
