I'm quite sad that Apple did so well. Honestly I was hoping people would punish them for their idiotic decision to keep the base model shafted with 16GB for a fifth year running, while practically every other phone maker is doing 32GB. I guess people are just too stupid to notice.

It is quite pleasing to see iPad sales continue to drop. Seriously, a 16GB tablet without a microsd slot is essentially useless. There is absolutely no reason Apple should still be selling a 16GB tablet in the year 2016. Unbelievable.

Well if you remove 68% of revenue from its earnings I guess you'll have your answer. When nearly TWO THIRDS of your entire companies earnings come FROM ONE PRODUCT it's a one trick pony. Why else do you think big investors are worried about Apples situation?
Maybe Apple need to have a billion and one products. The iPhone A, The iPhone S, the iPhone mega. The iPad Tab 7.9 etc and just flood the market with confusing and similar products. In that way they would no longer be a one trick pony.

"Services generated $6.1 billion in revenue, plus $548 million from a patent infringement dispute."

AKA, Samsung. That $548 million is non-recurring.

Apple's inventory at the low end (5 weeks). Without that, YoY sales would have dropped. That said, the ASP was higher ($691 vs $687), which suggests that the 6S/6S Plus "mix" was similar to the prior year.

Waiting for the real iPhone sales breakdown as are Apples main investors. Those iPad sales are very very poor, nearly a quarter down!! Shares will take a hit for that.

I think the more one trick pony company Apple becomes, the harder the share price will fall once those one trick sales fall.

It's a bit different though when their products with "very very poor" sales are bigger than the entire sales of some other major tech companies.

Smallest improvement over previous quarters. A new high is great, but when it's such a small increase people wonder if the next quarter will be a drop. Numbers like that look like they're reaching a plateau.

What you need to remember is that last year was a step change in iPhone sales due to pent up demand for large screen iPhones being satisfied. For Apple to equal and exceed that step change in the immediately following holiday season is very impressive.

They also achieved the highest average price per unit ever and the highest sales in China ever, despite economic and currency headwinds.

Samsung had to offer 32GB as the base model because touch wiz is so bloated. Anyhow there are a lot of people who get by just fine with 16GB and there are those who are not willing to pay for more storage. At least Apple gives you the option of buying more storage. I really don't see what the issue is. If people want more than 16GB they can pay and if they don't want to they can buy another phone. It's quite simple. Apple are not forcing anyone into anything.

Great results given the worry over lack of sales recently

The pro was never going to completely save the iPad sales

They didn't bother to update the Air 2, I'm sure that was a small but significant little chunk of sales right there. Which I guess will be pushed into the April quarter or whatever.

Hey, that's the Android/Samsung/Motorola/LG/Acer/Sony... business model!

Or it doesn't bother them, and if it bothers you, then buy cloud storage or a 32gb phone.

TC says VR is "really cool and has some interesting applications." Translation - Apple is working on VR in a big way.

Supposedly, all the negativity was baked in the stock price decline. But, it has already dropped $1.34 after hours. ANALyst are crazy and hate Apple.

Okay. You remove their 'one trick' and they're still making more profit than Google. Are they just… printing money?

Astonishing performance. Gross margins increased? Wow. And how about that dividend.

Now watch the haters dig for that needle in the haystack to poke the company with.

You mean like the iPad DOWN 25%? Wasn't all that hard. Plenty more in there as well once you look not all that closely.

Why are you loving this? Stock (assuming you actually own more than a modicum of shares) has been flat for 18 months and is no longer a 'growth' stock. We are getting charged premium prices for an increasingly wayward collection of products (Watch, new MacBook, entry level iMac, Mac Mini, etc.) Apple seems to be wasting their time chasing markets they have no hope of cracking (TV and automobiles) meanwhile the only 'trick' they have is to make their stock products bigger or smaller.

I was hoping for some news that would relight the fire of innovation instead of the status quo. But as long as the iPhone profit rolls in like clockwork every year, it'll be business usual.

Yes, they always announce new products on the earnings calls!.

So this company keeps posting record profits year after year. Great. But how much is enough?

We keep getting nickel & dimed with 16gb base iOS devices, iMacs/Mini's with non upgradeable ram and 5400rpm 2.5 base hard drives, i5 base processor options on even high end configurations, no discounts as products age and aren't updated (Hello Thunderbolt display), I can go on and on.

I'm not even gonna get into the buggy iOS/OS X releases over the past few years, that basically take till the end of the OS life cycle to fix the bugs, some quite glaring.

When does this company give back to the loyal userbase a bit? Give us a bone, jeez.

Not everyone got the 6 last year before of service commitments so there was still pent up demand this year.
