This just shows them that they can continue to produce same phone with different number and people will still buy it. I can't actually figure out why would anyone who has iphone 6/6s would buy 7 except having a lot of money needed to be spent anyhow. Sure, there are people like these, but that many?
Tim Cook is doing his job right, he is just focused on profits and he has success. Following his goal, it wouldn't be surprising that he abandons entire Mac line.
I don't want to speak in advance, but if iPhone 8 is going to be another iPhone 6, it would be final word on what Apple actually is.

If boringness and starving out the finest computer business of its kind are the incentives, you're right. Just like Volkswagen and other molochs that are too big to fail.
Bad year, bad management, still great results => why change ...

iPad sales continued their recent declines, falling to 13.1 million from 16.1 million.
Apple just cannot figure out how to get people to buy iPads. While the number on its own is impressive. Any company would love to sell 13 millions items, but going from 16 million to 13 millions is a steep decline.

iOS Simulation has always worked. How do you think people develop iOS apps? You just need to install XCode.
I think he ment to run iOS app on os x ....without being a developer ...like an emulator.

And even if he did not ment it that way there's no need for an attitude in the answer.

Having 69% of your revenue tied to a single product line (iPhone) isn't a good thing. If they actually released good Macs on a regular basis, then Mac sales would be higher, and diversify their revenue.

The thing is, macs age really well. They are well-built, the software keeps working great and the newest tech offers only incremental updates. People keep their Macbooks or iMacs for long times because they work well for the workflow.

In terms of phones, there are constant updates because 1 - the hardware keeps improving, and 2 - we are still figuring out how best to use a pocket supercomputer to make our days easier to manage. As a result, rapid changes require new products capable of offering customers the experience.

Perhaps the most important part of what you wrote, however, is that 69% of revenue is tied to one product line. Apple is essentially a phone company with some computers in the back for more serious people. Perhaps the iPhone-halo effect will be able to make the mac more popular again or is the market saturated?

Apple should spend some of that money on higher labor compensation for us AASPs keeping these boxes running

Sigh... actually the pound is now worth more against the dollar then it has been since 2011.. yeah that was a long time before brexit:

http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/76...cy-finance-markets-trump-navarro-germany-euro

But why let facts get in the way of your argument eh?

I suggest you reread the article, it's saying that the pound had it's best gain since january 2011, not that it's at it's highest. Considering the pound had dropped to it's worst position in nearly 31 years the best ever January recovery doesn't come close to making up the losses it has suffered.

"In January, the pound made gains of 1.86pc, marking its best January in six years."

The pound is currently trading at around 1.26 to USD, last year pre brexit it was trading around 1.55. And in 2014 it had traded as high as 1.70.

To further elaborate, when I say that Apple is skating to where (they think) the puck will be, it doesn't mean that Apple has some crystal ball which lets them predict the future. It just means that Apple has a vision of what they would like the future of computing to entail, and they aren't averse to using their resources and influence to help shape that vision into reality.

Because ultimately, the best way to predict the future is to create it yourself.

Sometimes it works (iPhone, flash), sometimes it doesn't (FireWire, thunderbolt). Putting your weight behind a certain standard while withdrawing support for another doesn't mean you will succeed (even if you are Apple). It just means you tried. And we see Apple trying again with the headphone jack and USB C.

So when Tim Cook says that the iPad is the future of mobile computing, I don't think it is some idle boast. It reflects Apple's beliefs and convictions and their product strategy reflects this.

I personally want the iPad to become more capable. I don't need or want the Mac to die, but if that is a natural consequence to the iPad taking off as the public's mobile computing device of choice, then so be it.

Who is right and who is wrong, no one can really say until we are actually there at that point in time and can look back in perfect hindsight. But nobody can accuse Apple of not trying.

Very good points. It is clear that Apple thinks this way. Tim Cook has said publicly that he doesn't see why anyone would buy a PC rather than iPad Pro. There's now anecdotal evidence of people switching from laptops to iPads, but I don't see a trend and for everyone I've met, iPad & Mac/PC are complements, not substitutes. There certainly doesn't seem to be a trend in the sales data suggesting a switch from Mac to iPad. Maybe things will change, but as someone who relies on Macs for work (and would very much like a new Mac Pro), I'm hoping that Apple will look at the sales data, change their mind, and invest again in desktop Macs.

Type 1gbp to usd into google and you see the express is as accurate as it alway is, or having just read the link, you have misunderstood. It has seen it's largest percentage gain increase, not that it is worth more

Have to say that's an obscene amount of money, and nothing given back to the customer. Also shows how much of a one trick pony they still are.
Would be nice if they reduced the iPhone and iPad costs in the UK, considering the pounds gone back up but noooo.

Do you want them to write you a check for being a customer? Get over yourself please. It's a business not a charity lol. People are something else...

Well...... the fact is, it's not looked at by weekly. As I said, any other tech company would die for resaults like these. Apple made more money this quarter, than any company has ever made in a quarter in history.

Well, let's see the reaction in three months when Q2 is 12 weeks instead of the usual 13 and everything is down...

Also, Apple made more money last year (2016Q1 profit $18.4 billion) than this year (2017Q1 profit $17.9 billion), so I'm really not sure where you're getting this idea that this is enviable growth or the most profitable quarter ever of any company.

Apple just cannot figure out how to get people to buy iPads.
If only Apple would just learn to not build their iPads like a tank and would stop their foolish policy of supporting the OS with updates for 5 years. If it weren't for these misguided policies, I would have been able to buy a new iPad in the past 2.5 years. As it stands, I'm stuck with my iPad Air 2 which refuses to stop performing like a new device.

The reaction will be that Apple is still making the most profit of any tech company out there, in fact any company period. A position that Google, Microsoft, & the rest of there competition would love to be in. In fact, lets see what the reaction will be this time next year...... ohh, the same as this year.

There were no new models in the holiday quarter and Tim cook said there were issues with one of their suppliers. I'm sure Microsoft would love to sell 13 million Surface Pro's in a quarter. ;)

The trouble is, the falling numbers is not the exception but the rule. Cook and team cannot figure out how to entice people to buy iPads

I think Wall Street is well aware of how to account for this. And no company other than Apple itself has had a more profitable quarter.

True. It will be interesting to see where Apple will take the iPad. Something must change, and the current lineup is arguably a bit confusing to the average consumer.
