If you think apple computers and products are all overpriced what are you doing here?

There is it!!! The old Fanboy Standard. "If you don't get on your knees and profess your every-lasting love of Apple, you have no right to comment on Apple on this board"......

As an Apple user and a person who has an interest in their products (and owns quite a few), I have yet to be told by the people who pay for this bandwidth to stay away.

Yes, I imagine you love your little perfect world where you post:"Apple products are magical and delicious regardless of what they cost", and LTD types back to you, "You know it buddy. PC's are Crappy and clunky - my Mac is tasty, gorgeous, and oh so sexy. Everyone who doesn't agree with us is a HATER", and you type back "And probably on Steve Ballmer's payroll"........ Then a chorus joins in with mindless giggles and positive posts because you and LTD understand the world in a way others can not...

Unfortunately my friend, the real world doesn't work that way. No product is perfect, and every non-Apple product doesn't suck. I have my opinions and feel my experience with Apple products qualifies me to comment on them - and until someone tells me I can't express them in a civil manner here - I will....

Maybe it was and he just picked the wrong words. Who knows ...

Read the quote again :

However, all of those HTC, Samsung, and other devices NOT paying to license multi-touch from apple are breaking the law

And let the poster come back to the thread and explain what he means himself. So far as I'm concerned : It's pure misinformation on his part (not saying it's deliberate, he might just be misinformed himself).

In read today's FOSS patents post. I have a passing knowledge of the legal issues but not the details. This case is all about the details to the point it cannot be answered without answering the question of the validity of the underlying Motorola patent AND a really technical analysis of when in the code process some patent related function occurs.

However Apple has at all points along the process offered to comply with its vendor licenses, to get a similar license, to do the process in any way that does not violate the patent, and in addition to all that post a bond pending any claim that might remain.

Motorola is engaged in a tactical effort to stop the sales of a product across Germany and EU as far as jurisdiction applies over a single obscure patent of one of perhaps a thousand functions of a device of which the component at issue is about 1-2% of the sales price of the device which also throws off 4x that in other revenues under contract.

This is a pebble in a pond to force the emptying of the pond on the largest of all possible cities with children in the flood zone.

Interesting legal theory where a nuke is actually a realistic possibility.

Motorola/Google lawyers are evil. Like the real kind of evil.

Just Rocketman

Last, Apple does not have a patent on making a smart-phone (as we now know it). They set a trend, others followed. It happens everywhere, everyday, in every market. Others are in their full right to follow in Apples steps. Jobs may not like it, but thats the way it is. And, we should be happy - not sad or upset - that is the case.
Ok, "trend". So, the others are following a trend with imitation. And people are fully in their rights to call those imitations. But...

The problem is the *******s that come here. They hate either Apple or people who like Apple, and almost universally: Steve Jobs. They commit various levels of trolling that range from stirring up trouble intentionally to complaining ad infinitum about Apple employees, as if any of that is going to change the fact that Apple's products are more useful and more user friendly than the 2 major competitors, Windows and Android. And, in any way I would consider practical, predate those competitors.

And these "people" should be kicked out since they are the cause of the problems on this forum. There are plenty of Android fan forums, and Windows help forums for these people to congregate and rail on Apple users. THIS SHOULD NOT BE ONE OF THOSE PLACES. I'll let you decide where you think you fall, divinox.

BTW, Jobs has died. Get the **** over it.

Apparently I'm in a bad mood this weekend.

Really? You are mad at Motorola/Google over this but are giving Apple a free go at its stuff.

End of the day Apple started the MAD with the patent law suits and they went sue happy. Apple is really the one to blame for this.

I read the bold-marked paragraph three times, still don't get it. If MSFT knew they infringed, and that they'd eventually lose to Apple, why not let them die?

Second, Jobs stating something and something being fact is... well, lets just call it non-equivalent. Third, the same goes for having a patent, and that patent being robust enough to stand in court.

Last, Apple does not have a patent on making a smart-phone (as we now know it). They set a trend, others followed. It happens everywhere, everyday, in every market. Others are in their full right to follow in Apples steps. Jobs may not like it, but thats the way it is. And, we should be happy - not sad or upset - that is the case.

p.s.

while Steve Jobs patents a glass staircase [sic!], Gates patents electromagnetic engines and a technique to slow down the path of Hurricanes. One is actually an engineer, the other is not. Guess who...

Thanks to MSFT and Bill Gates, Apple survived. But I'm not going to say that Bill Gates did it entirely out of the goodness of his heart. The government was calling for MSFT's head on a platter. They wanted to break up MSFT. When a company is a target of antitrust legal action, the company makes it a point to tout the strength of its competition. In a twisted way, Gates needed Apple to survive in order to avoid a crippling judgment against MSFT.

Also, no one claimed Apple had a patent on a smartphone.

And where are you going with mentioning the two patents? Just so you know, Gates also dropped out of college to start Microsoft.

There is something wrong with a person who spends their precious free time wallowing in things they don't like. It is pathetic and it is unhealthy and it signals significant issues.

I don't have time to follow and discuss all the things that interest me and that I enjoy. Again if people choose to spend their time seeking out places to attack places and things they don't like, well that is seriously disturbing and I can only hope those afflicted by it grow out of it or get the help they need.

Part of the issue is you think you are somehow saving us from ourselves. We dont care about your ignorant hate filled position statements. You are not contributing you are stifling. If you can learn to discuss issues in a relatively objective fashion with consideration for a bigger picture and viewing things from different perspectives you might be welcome. If you want to just mindlessly and ignorantly bash apple at every turn why not go elsewhere. Again we do not need you to show us the light we just need you go learn how to either discuss things normally and without hate filled bias or you just get lost.

The first iPhone related patent lawsuit was Nokia suing Apple. Motorola also sued Apple first.

And the Nokia one was fair game. It was a disagreement over the pricing for Nokia patents.

As for the Motorola case I would say Motorola could see Apple going sue happy and going after them next. They attack first but Apple already made it clear it was going to attack anyone with Android with patent attacks. Some of them being crap patents. (Slide to unlock being one example)
Apple is the one who started the law suit crazy.

Nope. I read the details of three hearings on this one case and came to the response I did on this one case. For example this claim is on a patent that was licensed to Apple's vendors, but later withdrawn but only as it relates to Apple specifically and only after there was a Google offer for Motorola. That muddies the validity of the withdrawal in any case. This is a tactical legal sting.

Rocketman

These lawsuits are just making Apple look bad, really bad. When will these lawsuits actually stop? Let's say Apple does win. What's next? These products have a very short lifespan especially Android phones. For example; Motorola has released the Droid Bionic, Droid Razr, soon to be Droid 4 and next the Droid Razrmax. I do not approve of what Motorola is doing but a lawsuit can last longer then the product itself, enough time for them to retool the product.

The only way to win is to release product that people actually want at a good cost. A lot of people do not want a 4 inch iphone but I do. A lot of people do not want a 7 inch tablet but I do. The only company willing to do this is Android. As a consumer these lawsuits do nothing for me. I'm smart enough to know a Apple product from a Android device. Even my non techie wife knows the difference.

I would not be surprised if part of the larger reason is to get Apple to back off on Android Attacks.

See, there's the problem. Show me, ONE, JUST ONE TIME where I have posted a "ignorant hate filled position"... Let's go over it again Kiddo, shall we????

1. I like many others here am a dedicated Apple user.

2. I also (and I know this is my big "crime" around here) use Windows PC's and products not made by Apple IN ADDITION to Apple products.

I do believe there are places where other products are superior to Apple, be it in their form, function, or pricing. So what???? I call that assessing what I am using. No, to you that's "HATE"...... Why do you feel this disqualifies me from stating my position on this board???

I understand you have no use for anybody's opinion that doesn't involve singing the praises of Apple, and mindlessly repeating Fanboy Keywords ie. "Elegant, Delicious, Crappy, Clunky, Gorgeous, Sexy, Skates to where the puck is going to be, " -- - But you're never going to get that out of me and many others here (Ya know, the ones you call "Haters") who actually take the time you give their honest opinion about a product..... I actually believe others want to hear my honest opinion. Takes a bit thought to use a product, evaluate, and comment. It's takes no thought to mindlessly parrot what everyone else is saying..

Kinda reminds me when I bought my wife, myself, and my 3 kids all iBooks in 2005. Within 3 years the hard drives on all 5 failed. I say that's a serious problem??? What would you call it?? Oh Yes, I know what you would say - - "Oh my God, their soooo Elegant and Beautiful"!!!!!!!!!!! (FYI, one of the iBooks is still in use in my mancave as a Print Server)

In the end, 5 hard drive failures out of 5 machines didn't stop me from continuing to buy Apple products, but I will say to this day Apple put junk HDD's in iBooks. Gee, I guess that makes me a "HATER"!!!!!!!!!

Pffftttttttt

These lawsuits are just making Apple look bad, really bad.

To whom?

Certainly not consumers. This stuff barely registers in the consciousness of the mass market.

No one's going to put off grabbing an iPad because Apple is suing someone. You might, and for argument's sake I might, but we hardly represent the bulk of Apple's market. Let's get real. Apple's been suing everyone left and right for years and the result has been obscene profit and the complete redefinition of entire markets.

It's best not to project your own attitudes onto the wider market. It's quite clear that Apple is very adept at handling legal issues and it's obvious after all these years that they understand what impact (or the lack thereof) these activities have on consumer consciousness and behaviour.

It's all about churning out more iPads, iPhones, Macs and other goodies. Consumers are after product. That goes for everyone, not just Apple. Moralizing and soul-searching doesn't figure into the equation. All that complicated business is saved for important things like career and family. People don't moralize about tech.

You're certainly right that it's not normal for a person who actually does hate a certain company and it's products to spend time on a forum dedicated to it, heck, it's not normal to have emotions such as hate towards a certain company in the first place.
The problem is your "You're either with us or against us"-attitude. You label everyone who doesn't like everything Apple does or doesn't agree with you a "hater".

Grow up, it's not black or white, you're not part of some righteous team of heroes that are being targeted by evil haters.

The next big thing coming from Apple is the ipad 3 which is still 3 to 4 months away. I'm sure ipad 3 is going to be very good but are mainstream willing to pay $500 plus as they did 2 years ago? Apple really needs to put these lawsuits behind them and start innovating again. Start making different products to keep everyone interested. What was the last Apple product that really made people talk? Iphone 4S? Ipad 2? Apple TV? $1000 laptop? A 7 inch tab to battle Kindle fire would be great. Looks like Apple is wasting more time in the courtroom then the lab.

pretty sure a multibillion dollar company has a staff dedicated to legal issues and a much bigger staff in the "lab"

they're probably "innovating" just fine..

The only advantage for windows PCs is that you can opt to strip out parts which you do not need, or use cheaper alternatives (such as that old keyboard you still have lying around, or an inexpensive 20' display), thus artificially driving down the cost. But then, the comparison is no longer meaningful, because you are literally getting what you pay for.

Artificially? Apple forcing you to repurchase the monitor/ keyboard/ mouse every time you buy a machine artificially inflates the price. I also note you assume that all those peripherals not made by apple are old or inexpensive. Did it occur to you that people might have high-quality mkm sets they'd like to continue using?

Simply proof that the mass market can be stupid.

No, they're just practical in their thinking and relegate tech to where it belongs on the list. There are plenty of professionals that aren't necessarily technically inclined, but are concerned about a getting high-quality product. But that's where the concern ends. They have deadlines to meet, need to take kids to extra-curricular activities, and save the righteous pontificating for social and political issues. Plus, it's far easier to be a fan of certain tech than to be morally conflicted about it. Consumers don't give a damn about companies suing each other. And why should they?

Moralizing about tech is at the best of times a luxury, and certainly a relatively questionable use of time.
