lol. nice.

I think the idea is pretty cool, as long as they don't look like they do in the patent picture, and it would be even cooler if they made a bluetooth version so you didn't even have to have wires.

even better if they scanned it into ur eye

Are you SERIOUS?

Apple better not get the patent, or else I'm going to have to seriously call Apple out on this thing which has been patented previously.

Seriously fanboys, cut the crap, Apple is patenting all the **** they want, even if it's not original. Don't tell me you've never seen this before.

Who the hell want's to walk around with those things on, who would want to watch a video where you can't see what's happening around you? Besides using it while in bed watching porn I don't see this selling well. Notice the other ones don't sell either. Why? Because you can't see and you look like a dork.

I don't know. Why would you want to watch a movie on a smaller screen than iPod does?:cool:

Ok guys, IT DOESN'T PLAY VIDEOS!
The point is to put a UI in front of you at all times, maybe at the corner of your field of view, and then filling it when you tell it to. It doesn't obscure your vision either, it's supposed to be like a heads up display, just like on a fighter jet.

It would work pretty well, but you would look like a dork if it wasn't discreet enough.

Another idea that would be cool, is to have a live feed of some sort, like CNN or whatever. Plug it into your iPhone for instance and you could have a feed of stock info or what ever, then when you get an incoming call it would tell you who is calling without you having to even pull out your phone.

Not any weirder than wearing a bluetooh phone earpiece. Plus, patents typically describe a possible use case scenarios, things that may be, not must be included in a final product. Augmented reality devices and wearable displays have been investigated in medicine and aviation (not to mention the military) for a while. Good intro: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Augmented_reality

I'd drop the iGlasses and dub it iSee

The military already uses stuff that is kind of similar, even HUD's are comparable in a way.
But maybe this could be used by soldiers to give them "terminator vision" :p

Why is this crazy?

As anyone knows (I thought until reading a lot of moronic posts from some here in this thread), Patent drawings are purposefully drawn badly. Especially Apple... they don't want people to see exactly what they're wanting to do. They like to make it legal and binding while keeping it as ambiguous as possible.

Myvu® is already selling glasses just for the purpose of iPod video. Here is a composited jpg from some images on their site. It's plain to me that with some thought from a design-conscious company (namely Apple), great glasses that weren't totally nerdsville could be achieved.

I am suing.... !

Too late Apple, I beat you to it.

Doesn't everyone know that he's my cousin testing out those new goggles?

I guesss...but I don't know how much we'll see out of this.

I'm liking the "classic" display, but what ever floats you're boat :p

I don't know. Why would you want to watch a movie on a smaller screen than iPod does?:cool:

as i understand it, these types of goggle displays (it even sounds dorky just typing it) trick your eyes and brain into believing that you're seeing a much larger image than you actually are.

i apologize if someone's already pointed this out...and also if i'm just totally wrong.

Dammmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmn, if they could double as every day glasses these would be sweet! As long as you can somehow hide the cord fairly easily

sure - just plug it in the jack at the back of your skull ..

Yep. Anyone walking around with a bt headset comes to mind.

my theory has always been that a large percentage of people who are comfortable walking around with bt headsets are of the same sort that would be comfortable with elf ears, cloaks, and quarterstaffs

Well, obviously the idea is you wouldn't be watching it while actively walking, since they can be clear. I'd imagine we're still a couple years from making the technology small enough to make glasses that DON'T look stupid, but if anyone could take current wearable displays and make them look cool, it'd be Apple.

I would want those with the ipod + nike kit to get a display in front of my eyes with statistics as I'm out running. Neat.

You know what's ironic about this is that those of us who wear hearing aids have been waiting with anticipation for the last 15 years for the aids to get small enough to be practically invisible (=socially acceptable), and now these bluetooth headsets have come out it's not uncommon to see guys wearing them and they're massive! Lately I've seen bluetooth hearing aids for $5000 a piece (they're freakin small)... now I'm just waiting for the cost to come down.

These glasses will advance the same way - bluetooth, with visual displays which can be switched on or off.
