Why would it matter? Unless you're paying a mom-and-pop store they will charge you an extra fee for using the credit card under $10, you don't with the bill for the transaction. The business does.

And I wouldn't say it's safer either. If use a debit card it's not subject to fraud protection like a credit card is. That's why, even when I use my debit card or use it as a credit purchase, because then it comes with built-in fraud protection. Debit cards often do not.

Debit is a safer system (when using chip and pin) and its less expensive than credit for any transaction over $10; for a $100 transaction, its 0.2%! Why don't they promote debit transactions from $10+ sales then if its only to stick in to the CC companies.

Tried to use my google wallet to buy a pop today....this is what I got:

Shame. It says Apple Pay not supported; didn't even use Apple Pay. Just to note, the NFC is still enabled on the machine however does not complete the transaction.

Disgusting!

What I really just can't understand is people defending MXC, or talking bad about Apple Pay, when the really sad thing is taking a choice away from consumers that's safer, more secure, and no info given to merchant.

If that is acceptable to some people, you really need to go through identity theft and how it happens. Second, why in the hell in this day and age, if you can avoid your personal info being used, or someone like Walmart/Target having access to your checking account, let alone SS number, would you let that happen? We already saw how good Target did with it!

If you don't want to use Apple Pay, Google Wallet, or any form of NFC then don't! But why in the hell would you exept the choice being taken away, for no other reason then the merchant getting your info???

I find it funnier then **** that they turned off NFC as soon as Apple Pay goes live, yet Google Wallet has been able to use NFC for some time now! If that's not enough to convince idiots that the sole reason that was done, is the fear of Apple Pay becoming the standard!

If MXC was so good, and so bennificial to consumer's, they wouldn't be making fools of themselves by purposely turning off Apple Pay and NFC. They're are scared ******** because NFC/Apple pay is better! And they all know Apple has the following and the ability, to get Apple Pay recognized by even the dumbest of consumers!

Turning off NFC is nothing but a Hell Mary now! To many smart banks and retailers are on board! The stores & business that turn off Apple Pay & NFC will lose to much money, and have to concede, and at the very least give us the choice!

Walmart, Target and any other dip **** company that wants to use MXC, fine, but don't turn off my choice to use NFC and Apple Pay! You chicken **** pieces of ****!;):apple::cool:

where do you live with both a Wegmans and Whole Foods???

Northern Virginia/DC has Wegmans and Whole Foods all over. I've got 6 Whole Foods within 20 minutes of me (with a 7th and 8th opening next year) and 4 Wegmans within 30 minutes of me, with a new one opening next year 15 minutes from my house.

Wegmans is my favorite grocery store.

You know it is possible that he's actually 100% for both.

Who suddenly made you the principle police, passing judgment on people.

I am unsure what you mean, that one doesn't exclude the other. Either you boycott them for one reason or you don't. So are you saying you're 50% boycott for their employee treatment and 50% for NFC? So if they took NFC, you'd be willing to shop there at least 50% of the time?

This whole thread, much like all the ones before it on this issue, comes down to one thing. Entitlement. What happened to all the "rage" about Apple not including NFC until 2014? By that logic, *APPLE* has been denying you NFC based payments for YEARS now - who is, or has, boycotted Apple? Hypocrisy. :apple:

----------

Not much different than what MCX did, is it?

It's ridiculous to think Apple or Google would remove the app from their respective stores. Why would they do that? That would be childish behavior.

where do you live with both a Wegmans and Whole Foods???

I live between Pittsford, NY and Manhattan (UWS); usually go to the Wegmans on Monroe Ave in Pittsford and on occasion the Wegmans in Woodbridge Township, NJ. (grew up with the family in Rochester, love Wegman's, missed them when I was living out west)

Sorry dude but everyone shops at target or walmart. Where you gonna get toys for the kids, or food, or toilet paper. Let me guess, walgreens. LOL. And the credit card is NEVER going away. Sorry.

No, dude. There's a new Walmart about a mile from my house. Been there about a year and I've never been in it. I can count on one hand the number of times I've EVER been in a Walmart and it was only because they carried a specific brand of furniture I couldn't buy anywhere else, which no longer exists. I boycott them for their employment and business practices and this is another nail. The last time I went to Target, I found out it had been so long since the last time I had been there that my Target credit card had been cancelled for lack of use. I don't have a reason to avoid Target, I just don't have a need to go when I have Amazon Prime. Most of my basic shopping is done online at Amazon. My toilet paper comes in a case automatically a couple times a year. Same with shower gel, toothpaste, calcium tablets, deodorant, etc. I also buy toys online. I could live quite easily without going to a Walmart or Target ever again.

Ultimately, what matters is that consumers have a payment option that is widely accepted, secure and developed with their best interests in mind.

What a joke! They certainly do not have our best interest in mind, they are developing a payment solution with their own interest in mind.

Requiring social security and drivers license really? How does that make things more secure for me? It is giving up my info so it can be stored on some non-secure server ready to be traded by cyber-criminals. No thanks.

I'm pretty sure the main motivation for the merchant exchange in creating this payment network is to avoid paying fees to the likes of Master Card & Visa. They are creating a ACH transaction network which will take money directly from your bank account avoiding the card companies. This is really nothing more than writing a digital check via QR code.

What do you want to bet, that the real reason is marketing data. With ApplePay the merchant doesn't get any. If they control the payment system, they get even more than they do today.

That's definitely an opinion.

The percentage of people who are refusing to shop at places that don't support Apple Pay is ridiculously low...

Most people would see they don't support Apple Pay, then pull out cash or cards.

The people calling for boycotts are what we call the vocal minority. It's as simple as that.

Walmart is ****** people (Waltons) selling ****** stuff to people who don't give a ****. **** them.

**** ***** ******** ** ***** ******* *****.

Ah, okay. Western New York is chock full of Wegmans', no WF atm. One is finally coming in 2016.

As for that picture of the Rite Aid terminal showing the Apple Pay message after using GW, that's just disgusting like said earlier.

So dude, your saying you never leave the house. Awesome. Guess you won't be using apple pay anyways.

The thing that baffles me is that these companies are dis-allowing NFC payments but will still allow the plastic card swipe... In the end, the store has to pay the CC company the same for the transaction whether done with plastic or over NFC.
True, but with the card swipe, they can identify you by your card number and track what you are buying whenever you visit. With ApplePay, they can't identify and track you. What a pity.

Costco and other big box stores, thats where I load up on household goods.

Yeah so that being the case, wonder how they will combat fraud. Like say you get your phone stolen and they hack off your thumb as well and go on a spending spree. They gonna credit you all that back?

Well, dude, I was just in Berlin and Munich a week and a half ago. Is that far enough out of the house for ya?

And the day before I left, I got a call from BofA telling me someone tried to use my chip card number that I take to europe (even though it's not a real chip and pin it still works better over there) at a Paris hotel to take out $10,000. So they cancelled it the day before I left. They overnighted the replacement but UPS delivered after I left. I had to use my regular Visa and it didn't work at a couple places without the chip. I really hope ApplePay takes off everywhere so I can use my phone when traveling the world to avoid all of this.

Ditto! You absolutely nailed it!

I have a Target within a mile of my house and a Walmart opened a couple years ago within 2 miles. I have never been in the Walmart!

I admit, I liked Target until the security breach but not taking Apple Pay, forget about it! I haven't been to Target in a while and you are dead on about Amazon.

I also have a CVS a block from my house and used them a lot! I have a new Wahlgreens 2 miles from my house and have started using them exclusively!

Anyone who says everyone goes to Target and Walmart have never been to Costco or ever purchased on line! I hate to admit it but Amazon is great. I've made it this long without Walmart, I'm sure I'll have no problem now.

Wait, so let me get this straight, Google wallet is just as convenient and takes just the same amount of time as Apple pay except for typing in the extra four digits. So wouldn't that by definition be slightly more complex and take slightly more time then Apple pay?

You are absurd...

Yeah, that's not correct. You're just making stuff up now.

Google Wallet is just as convenient as Apple Pay, short of having to type a 4-digit pin instead of using a fingerprint.

That's it. That's the only difference.

Google Wallet takes just as much time as Apple Pay does at the counter. Exactly the same, because its a simple NFC transaction. No other difference in time or convenience to the consumer.

You make a good example as to why the general populace believes iPhone users are clueless about technology until Apple finally gets around to adding it to an iPhone.

You guys. Target rocks. Super clean and fun to shop at. Walmart, no. I avoid that place like the plague unless its the middle of the night and I need something from there then I sneak in and out as fast as possible. Ordering everything online. LOL. What is this the "Net"?

QR codes. Talk about skating to where the puck is instead of where it will be.

Or maybe it's where the puck was several periods ago....

P.S. Maybe, to ensure compatibility, we'll be asked to install a program using 8" floppies, Oregon Trail style.

The puck was never there, but lots of corporations tried to make it appear. QR codes everywhere, and nobody cared about them.

I didn't see this before MacRumors. You might want to do another article on their response as I'm not sure a lot of people are seeing it.

This "response" is pathetic. No willing consumer will see handing over their SSN and DL number as being pro-consumer.

"Business Insider" is the drek of clickbait. I avoid anything relating to them on any subject. The actual article is almost never relevant to what is in the headline.

...what matters is that consumers have a payment option that is widely accepted, secure and developed with their best interests in mind.

Widely accepted. How about if you accept it?

Secure. How is MCX is more secure than Apple Pay?

Best interests. So you're collecting customer SS#, driver license #'s, and direct bank access info because it's in their best interests?

Wow. Eat **** and die.

My blacklist just grew: Comcast, AT&T, Rite-Aid, CVS, Best Buy, Walmart.
