Prove it dude. Pics or it didn't happen. ;)

I could but I don't do selfies so you would just say I got the picture off the internet. Unless you want a picture of my room at the Therme-Erding spa that shows me from a distance in the mirror:

But since you probably don't know the Therme-Erding Spa, the largest spa in Europe, just outside Munich, it wouldn't prove anything yet again.

BTW- What you don't see in that picture is my travel case for my nMacPro. Apparently, the security at Air Berlin didn't know what a nMacPro was and needed a higher level security inspection before they let it get on a plane. So, I spent all two days of my spa time worrying about where my $8k MacPro and assorted dodads were. NOT relaxing. It showed up at 11pm the night before I left for home.

Uh, derp. You have to be in the picture, holding a piece of paper with your macrumors username on it or its just a pic you got off the internet. Anyone can google hotels in Europe. Nice try though.

I know you're just being a troll but if you can Google image search that photo and find out where I "stole" it, you can prove yourself correct. Assuming you know how to do that....

Like I did to find out your avatar is from here:

Yeah so that being the case, wonder how they will combat fraud. Like say you get your phone stolen and they hack off your thumb as well and go on a spending spree. They gonna credit you all that back?

ApplePay is through your credit card company which will have the same fraud protection as if you were using a credit card. There is just another layer of security when you are making a transaction with ApplePay.

Regarding getting your finger hacked off, you are under the same danger as someone holding you up at the ATM machine and forcing you to withdraw money for them. Also, bring a bloody finger to a checkout stand will raise some suspicions, don't you think? and you phone can also be remotely swiped.

Sorry dude but everyone shops at target or walmart. Where you gonna get toys for the kids, or food, or toilet paper. Let me guess, walgreens. LOL. And the credit card is NEVER going away. Sorry.

I don't use Walmart. On rare occasion (2-3 times annually) I stop in a Target. Since the data breach last year any Target sale is cash. Small dollar sale, less than $50.

The other items are available where I purchase groceries. For that matter I seldom go to a drug store. A script on occasion. Rite Aid and CVS would be closed years ago if they depended on people like me.

I find it funny that they would disable Apple Pay as it has no downsides to the merchant but makes a much more elegant experience for the customer. The banks are paying apple from their swipe fee. The merchants aren't paying extra for customers to use Apple Pay.

Since the merchants are only doing this to avoid the credit card swipe fees, I was thinking it would be hilarious and devastating if the credit card companies closed their merchants accounts with those companies and stopped accepting credit card payments from them. Could you imagine walking into a CVS and seeing that it's cash or CurrentC only? It would cripple them.

Just because they are part of MCX doesn't necessarily mean that they won't accept NFC payments.

MCX made them sign an exclusivity agreements, as that was the only way for MCX to get traction. Why these retailers accepted to sign an exclusive deal with MCX, the only logical reason is sheer stupidity.

These execs who signed the exclusive arrangement with MCX should be fired.

And for all consumers, please think why would MCX seek exclusivitiy?

Cash at Target loses your 5% discount though. I love target.

jesus christ, JUST LINK TO THE APP STORE WHEN YOU'RE LINKING TO AN IOS APP.

FFS, there's no ****ing reason to link to appshopper which links to the app. ****ing stupid.

The big problem with apple pay is it alienates everyone who does not own an iphone 6. Why not make the iphone 6 a better phone because lets face it its not as good as android hardware don't care what anyone says. All they would have to do is make battery removable and I would buy one. Plus they could make it cheaper. The profits they would make off of apple pay would surely outweigh the loss in profits from such a move and it would be more supported as places like walmart and target would have to accept it but no, the iphone is just a phone, not a great phone, just a great phone if you stick with apple and have the previous model.

The puck was never there, but lots of corporations tried to make it appear. QR codes everywhere, and nobody cared about them.

Walmart tried "Scan and Go" here. Use your phone and their app to scan stuff as you go thru the store, ready to check out via QR code + CC at register. I made a valiant effort to use it and be enthusiastic, and it just plain sucked. Way too slow and awkward. The numerous signs for it quietly vanished.

Yeah, because the cheaper plastic iPhone 5c was such a big seller...

People who buy iPhones don't care about a removable battery. I know I don't.

It looks like they were asking for 3 year deals, meaning that the exclusivity periods should be coming to an end from 2015-2017.

Thats right, but the people who do care about that don't buy iphones which was my point.

You do know that these retailers are blocking Google Wallet as well?

MCX's members believe merchants are in the best position to provide a mobile solution because of their deep insights into their customers' shopping and buying experiences.

Right, because Apple, on the other hand, has no experience selling anything.

And QR codes do have some uses, being part of a point-of-sale system is clearly not one of them though...

Yep, and I don't applaud them for what they are doing. Apple pay is the better solution if you have an iphone and google pay for android users which lets face it is almost the worlds population in those to combined. I think these retailers are crazy and stupid. I would never give my social and bank info over to these perps. But I'm not going to stop shopping at these places because of it. Like another poster said, if you are going to boycott a company, do it for a better reason and if you are not an blind you would see that ever single corporation in America should be boycotted. They are all evil in someway.

This is my opinion as well. These retailers (aside from Walmart) are most likely bound by some exclusivity clause. I imagine that their legal teams are scouring their contracts to see how they can exit that agreement ASAP.

And sure, while some can claim that these retailers won't immediately lose money for refusing ApplePay since cash and physical credit cards still work, all the bad press leaves a serious black mark on their reputation, making them look dowdy, behind the times, and clunky. That will cost them more in the long term than whatever termination penalties might arise from breaking out of CurrentC.

Once again this thread does not fail to disappoint. Merchants you frequently shop you will now boycott because they don't take NFC payments. God forbid you take a stand against Walmart due to their working conditions or Nike for their slave-like labor tactics.

I already boycott WallyWorld for all of those reasons as well as I've always found, the few times I've been there, it to be a thoroughly unpleasant experience. So I could not, under any circumstances, care less what payment options they offer since they will never see a single cent of my money.

CurrentC vs Apple Pay vs Google Wallet is the new "tech wars" for this decade (Mac vs PC in the 90s, Blu-ray vs HD DVD in in the early 2000s, Android vs iOS after that). It will be interesting to see which standard is widely adopted by the mainstream - Apple Pay certainly seems like a favorite at this point.

Only time will tell.

I really don't care about which standard is battling which. Its about choice, open up all the standards and let the consumer decide. The retailer who is restricting my freedom to choose has lost my patronage.

Wal-Mart execs are clearly delusional. They actually said, "Merchants are in the best position to create a mobile payment service for consumers"?! Oh, you mean the merchants who are constantly having huge data breaches of their customers' data?! I am so glad I don't support this crazy company with my money. They can kiss my ass.

I used Apple Pay for the first time tonight at two retailers. It was dead simple and fast. I'll go out of my way to look for retailers who take NFC payments in the future...no question about it.
