Umm, you know Apple didn't make this. You could do this with Android decides for the past 3 years via Google Wallet and NFC-enabled devices as far back as the Galaxy Nexus... Apple didn't invent NFC payments.
Google Wallet has been around for years, but after less than one week of Apple Pay CVS and Rite Aid shut down their NFC.
Almost as if nobody was actually using Google Walllet.

Sort of like how almost nobody cared about mp3 players before the iPod, or smartphones before the iPhone, or tablets before the iPad.

I think in the end, that disastrous experience by Alibaba with the QR code-based Alipay system is why CurrentC may never become fully operational. Besides, CurrentC terminals are going to be a lot more expensive than NFC terminals, since you need to include a high-resolution LCD panel that can clearly display the QR code that is readable by the cellphone camera sensor.

Also, the way Apple Pay is designed so that Apple knows as little as possible about the transaction is something Google cannot do. Knowing as much as possible about what their users are up to is how Google makes money.

"Walmart...Best Buy, Lowe's, Old Navy, Southwest, Target, 7 Eleven, Dunkin Donuts, Hobby Lobby, and more."

The only one I shop at regularly is Target.

Everyone simmer down, Wal-Mart knows what's best for you... That's right, I said it, The king of "the customer is always wrong" globocorp. Leader of ******* employee treatment, Wal-Mart knows what's best... ****** you Wal-Mart, if I didn't need fertilizer, eggs, and new socks right now I would boycott the **** out of you!!!

Yeah, unfortunately you're probably right. But I'm the eternal optimist. I'm still hoping we don't devolve into 'idiocracy'

Have you watched TV or been on the book of faces lately?!?!? In the words of Loyd Christmas "we're there dude!!"

You know it is possible that he's actually 100% for both.

Who suddenly made you the principle police, passing judgment on people.

----------

Not much different than what MCX did, is it?

Principle police? That's a new one.

Lol, thanks for the post. Made me laugh (the Bailys in my coffee helped I guess). 'Book of faces'?? Lol No, I'm actually the only person I know who doesn't use it.

Never underestimate large groups of stupid people.
Are large groups of stupid people going to use something as fiddly and convoluted as CurrentC I wonder. Coupons aren't going away I imagine.
So how would this get any traction?
The sort of people who would be early adopters for this sort of thing would tend to be disgusted by CurrentC.

Also this:
Few things are more predictable than the failure of a tech product made by an industry consortium of non-tech companies.

One of two!! I went to rehab and have been clean of facespace for 6 months!! I even went through the 14 permanent delete process, the DT's were bad for that first week but now I can speak in full sentences again :D

Good luck with your recovery. Are you attending weekly meetings? That might help so that you don't backslide.

As for the other, yes I do watch TV. I'm retired and recently had nothing else to do after some surgeries. I was addicted to news TV but I too have gone through detox and now it's pretty much Ancient Aliens and Pawn Stars! But I'm finding conspiracy theories particularity compelling....

Edit: Thinking about it my addiction to Bailys in my morning coffee just might be a contributing factor. Perhaps I should change to something more "herbal"?

CurrentC looks stupid as far as user-experience goes. Doesn't Apple have a policy of not allowing apps that compete against their products? Apple should just straight up disallow that CurrentC app from their App store.

It's incredible how bad some companies are at design.. how could any adult come up with something as horrible as CurrentC? Are these companies run by trained monkeys?

LOL.. I forgot about that, Apple and Google need get together and block CurrentC from their app stores, just the way these retailers are blocking NFC. Its only fair.

I'm pretty sure that retailers don't care about the few hundred people that use an iphone 6.

More like 20 million and counting.

Also, apple and google can't deny their app, its illegal as it creates an unfair market and when your company is richer than most countries that matters.

Can't say about Google, but Apple's developer agreement prohibits apps which compete against an Apple service.

If banning the CurrentC app were actionable as an anti-trust concern, then disabling NFC as CVS did must be as well.

Hahaha oh good sir we may be separated twins!! I hate the pawn stars for two reasons though A) they are a criminal enterprise that make millions on short changing addicted gamblers, B) their show is like televised golf or bass fishing, once it's on you can't turn it off!! I prefer decoded to ancient aliens, but the crazy hair guy and I would likely be good friends. Now if I could just make it to retirement my cup will likely runeth over with Jameson. Although after an embarrassing trip to the school nurse in High School I found out I was allergic to herbs ####

"There are certainly a lot of compelling technologies being developed, which is great for the mobile-commerce industry as a whole. Ultimately, what matters is that consumers have a payment option that is widely accepted, secure and developed with their best interests in mind. MCX member merchants already collectively serve a majority of Americans every day. MCX’s members believe merchants are in the best position to provide a mobile solution because of their deep insights into their customers’ shopping and buying experiences."

Man, I wish MacRumors would allow real profanity here, because this pile of crap needs it. Asterisks just won't do it justice.

From CurrentC's website: "Your information lives on our highly encrypted cloud – so it's never shared or stored on your phone."

I think this is the exact opposite of Apple's thought process, no?

Hahahaha from someone who is fluent in the art of profanity, I agree wholeheartedly!!! Now quickly to wal-mart, where all the answers to life's why's can be answered!!

Being cloud based, what do you think the likelihood of Jennifer Lawrence shopping with CurrentC is?

You're missing the point...

between Target and WalMart, there is one major distinction...

the quality of the women that shop at these establishments.
Target FTW.

Priorities, gentlemen. ;)

Ah, retirement, one of the best things is partaking of Bailys and coffee in the morning.

As for the crazy hair guy, well I would love to spend some time with him...

As for your trip to the school nurse, so sorry. I graduated from HS in 1969. The era of 'sex drugs and rock 'n roll'. Happy to say I experienced all of it and not only survived but actually remember it (or at least parts). #

This isn't strictly true.

If you believe Thomas Friedman ("The World is Flat"), the pressure put on suppliers by Walmart purchasers has resulted in separate lines being run for Walmart vs. other sales outlets. This could mean that the Levis jeans may not have as clean sewing, or the quality control on the electronics isn't as tight.

Several higher-end brands have refused to sell through Walmart for that reason.

I don't generally buy that kind of thing from Walmart. I buy stuff for the kitchen or small, cheap electronics (IE, USB drives), or undershirts. Things which I don't need the highest level of quality for and am willing to take a slight (perhaps nonexistent) drop in quality for a decent amount of savings.

From CurrentC's website: "Your information lives on our highly encrypted cloud – so it's never shared or stored on your phone."

Sex Tape. Watched the movie on from the RedBox. Here is the quote:

Jay: "It went up! It went up to the cloud!"

Annie: "And you can't get it down from the cloud?"

Jay: "Nobody understands the cloud! It's a ********** mystery!"

Of course it does. The retailers don't want to pay the 2%-3% charge to the credit card companies.
Obviously. I was being facetious. But also, I don't know anything, and I don't like to be so cynical about everything when I don't actually know the facts.

I know that's unusual for the Internet. :)
