I don't recall any notification telling me that with my 14PM and AW Ultra I needed to make sure I am; 1) on a real road, 2) have CarPlay running (what if no CP in your old car?) or BT (what if you don't have BT devices?), and 3) I had to drive far enough and hope I did not just pulled out of my driveway and was T-Boned.

This case is exactly the same with people experiencing connection issues with their new Airpods Pro 2. Unless you use the newest iPhone 14 Pro with the best hardware you will not experience the best experience With your Airpods Pro 2.

These gotcha YouTube videos are the pinnacle of stupid. They’re transparently biased clickbaity for-profit like-engines and I ignore them categorically.

So fan club members think Apple hung the Moon, as usual, and the rest of know that Apple can’t program their way out of a wet paper bag. They are prety good at blowing smoke up the fan club members’ backsides though!

When you think about it, Apple is extremely confident that crash detection not only works but will not needlessly contact emergency services. Imagine if this feature is buggy and needless calls to emergency services start happening around the world! Apple would not only be disgraced but criminally charged and sued for making false reports and misusing life-saving emergency services resources. There is no way Apple would release this technology without being confident it works.
I mean...this is already happening with fall detection. I've never received a call back after the many times my watch dialed 911.

Because Apple’s 1 million hours of testing didn’t leave them satisfied enough to add the feature.
Cars are still crash tested after the auto maker spends R&D on making them safe year after year yet people still die from them. What's your point?

Yet others tested it in more realistic situations and it worked fine.

Apple is going to spend the weekend crashing real cars showing how it works fine to combat clickbait videos.

My point is exactly what I stated. Pretty simple. Wish I had a fraction of the money people spent trying to debunk features Apple implements into their devices.

Apple putting that many hours into trying to get something work properly to save lives is amazing. Nothing is perfect in safety. If these were serious designers/researchers trying to developer something better, or show Apple how to improve what they’re working on by testing further, that would be great.

But just because TWSJ would like some extra clicks and views trying to what, prove Apple is incompetent and their devices don’t work a 100% of the time? Apple makes this clear on their website, that it’s not failproof and will not detect all crashes.

So what’s the point? What’s your point?

Actually she said that the watch would react if the iPhone detects a crash. And at 5:30 she clearly said her watch detected the crash because it was connected to the phone.

Owned an Apple Watch Series 4 for years, and no "bugs" to speak up. If you've had 3 watches that you deem "buggy", the common factor there is .... (drumroll).... the user / wearer. 🙃
Plus, (and I'm not speaking about this case in particular) nowadays lots of people refers to "bug" way too often. Absolutely everything that doesn't work "as planned" is qualified as "buggy", when most of the time there's a logical explanation behind...

This guy got it to work on the phone (but he didn't test the watch). He used a remote control to drive the car instead of actually getting in the car.

If the only way to replicate a crash is by getting in an actual crash, why is there a burning need by some to test it? Maybe Apple should just work with F1 and film producers for films that involve car crashes?

I am a bit concerned that I might not work if the iPhone isn’t connected to the car via bt or carplay. That assumes the car is modern, it assumes the latest iPhone or watch is the one connected to the car.

I guess older cars and tech need to rely on a more limited range of detection processes.

Air bags don't always go off in every crash either. Yet people aren't crash testing air bags.

I’m more curious what the person answering 911 is hearing when this system calls. If the driver is incapacitated, is it just silence? The operator saying hello hello over and over? Siri saying something to the operator?

So what I’m reading here is:

“if you drive an old junker that doesn’t have at least Bluetooth, you’re clearly not an Apple customer, and we dont care about you.”

Got it. Thanks Apple

BT/CarPlay connection is one factor among a list of factors used to determine if a crash has occurred. Reading comprehension is important!
