Good thing I can comprehend the written word.BT/CarPlay connection is one factor among a list of factors used to determine if a crash has occurred. Reading comprehension is important!
Hey there! Another it-wrong joke! Awesome. You're crashing it wrong.
Be sure to not get involved in a crash pulling out of your driveway with your non-CarPlay vehicle.
You do realise that independent testing is extremely valuable, and that apple testing is inherently biased… right?Wish I had a fraction of money people spend just trying to debunk Apple’s features.
Because Apple’s 1 million hours of testing didn’t leave them satisfied enough to add the feature.
In Europe it’s mandatory on every new carYou know that many cars already have crash detection and have for a while, right? And of course it’s way more reliable than this apple gimmicky.
I think an owner of an iPhone 14P 📱 and/or AW Ultra ⌚️ in general has other BT devices to connect to, but if not you have GPS and other sensors in your luxury phone and watch, and if that’s not to any help either I hope your old car has windows and mirrors, so you can carefully check and watch out for other cars before you pull out of your driveway and don’t get T-Boned in the process. 👍🏼I don't recall any notification telling me that with my 14PM and AW Ultra I needed to make sure I am; 1) on a real road, 2) have CarPlay running (what if no CP in your old car?) or BT (what if you don't have BT devices?), and 3) I had to drive far enough and hope I did not just pulled out of my driveway and was T-Boned.
What makes it any different from "Hey, Siri"?Microphones turned on while driving. I trust this as much as a i trust alexa not listening at all time.
Blockbuster? Every new car I've had for the last 6 years has had this functionality built-in.Well, thanks for the clarification, Apple. This crash detection feature will be a blockbuster in an upcoming Apple Car.
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT213225I’m more curious what the person answering 911 is hearing when this system calls. If the driver is incapacitated, is it just silence? The operator saying hello hello over and over? Siri saying something to the operator?
The thing is, there were several factors that all made it unclear to the phone that crash detection should trigger. It wasn’t only the car connection, it was the short drive, the lack of sound, it all added up. Apple said CarPlay or Bluetooth helps, they didn’t say it was a determining factor.I am a bit concerned that I might not work if the iPhone isn’t connected to the car via bt or carplay. That assumes the car is modern, it assumes the latest iPhone or watch is the one connected to the car.
I guess older cars and tech need to rely on a more limited range of detection processes.
yes but they use the airbags going off to trigger. Apple needs to infer a crash and not trigger in instances like dropping the device. You know that many cars already have crash detection and have for a while, right? And of course it’s way more reliable than this apple gimmicky.
I mean...this is already happening with fall detection. I've never received a call back after the many times my watch dialed 911.
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT213225
- If you still haven’t responded, your device makes a call to emergency services at the end of the countdown.
- When your device makes this automatic call, it plays a looped audio message to emergency responders and out loud over your device speakers. This message informs emergency services that your Apple device detected a severe car crash and that you're unresponsive. It also shares your estimated latitude and longitude coordinates with a search radius.
- The message repeats at five second intervals—but, after the first time, it plays at a reduced volume, so that you or someone nearby can talk on the call to the emergency responder. You can also stop the recorded message.
iirc siri just answers that "the owner of this apple watch/iphone has been in a crash/had a hard fall and is not responding"I’m more curious what the person answering 911 is hearing when this system calls. If the driver is incapacitated, is it just silence? The operator saying hello hello over and over? Siri saying something to the operator?
I’m thinking the OP likes to drink fermented liquids. 😆Why is your Watch calling 911 so often??
Fall detection has triggered on my Watch several times (the reason I got the Watch in the first place), but I’ve always had plenty of time to cancel it when I didn’t need it.
It triggered a few times when I was at burning man earlier this year and was dancing. Other time recently I was installing a server and almost dropped a screw and caught it. I couldn’t dismiss the alert in time because my hands were full and the environment was loud. Why is your Watch calling 911 so often??

The only annoying thing I have experienced on my watch is when I tell it to set a timer and it tells me I have no timer installed. I have to manually set the timer. The next time, it worked.I have owned every Apple Watch until recently. They are all buggy... if not the most consistently buggy product I can think of from Apple. Admittedly, I gave away my last Apple Watch a few months go out of frustration and, with an iPhone 13 Pro, one of the best iPhones ever made, I see no reason to upgrade, I do not have either of these.
Siri is buggy. Monterey is VERY buggy. iPad OS has quirks... But hey, most of the stuff works, most of the time.
I guess it's just expected that this feature will need to be matured to be reliable.
The insurance industry independently crash test cars continually and don’t rely solely on the manufacturer’s claims.Air bags don't always go off in every crash either. Yet people aren't crash testing air bags.
The point is airbags over the course of time have varying degrees of performance. The insurance industry independently crash test cars continually and don’t rely solely on the manufacturer’s claims.
