I can't say that I'm not bitter after standing in line for nearly 3 hours and then being turn away. That being said, it was my choice to go to that store on this opening day for a product that is by no means a necessity for me.

Still, I wish the store manager was more organized and had vouchers ready at 3:30 PM when the line was already past 150 people long.

The other issue that stings is that through the window I saw MANY people being 2 or 3 ipads. They should have limited it to one per customer. Oh well, hopefully in month I can pick one up.

After seeing lines at the Apple store a hundred deep at 10:00AM, I tried Best Buy. The Best Buy I went to was incredibly organized. And for multiple unit buyers, they made sure everyone got one first, then allowed extras to be bought. I picked an out of the way store (Hamburg New York near Buffalo), got there at 4:00 and was 7th in line. I was out by 5:05PM and, as I said, they were completely organized and processed people quickly. I got an AT&T 64GB black and everyone seemed to get what they were looking for.

Of course, for you being from NYC, there probably is no such thing as an "out of the way" anything.

You're just wrong. There is a wealth of research on this, some of it dealing specifically with medical residents.

One of the first things to go when you're sleep deprived (or drunk, or outfitted with an M.D. ;) ) is the ability to realize you are impaired...

Surgery residents are encouraged, even applauded, for being married to their work.

They say a surgeon needs 2 things: 1. a passion to live, eat, and breathe surgery. 2. a supportive and forgiving husband/wife and children that understand why you are never around.

Some are suggesting 500k sales in the first day.

Perhaps greater.

Over-under: 600,000 sales day one.

I say over.

Its a HIT. I managed to snag one, it was a madhouse at the local apple store. Apple's strategy of having folks line up worked, lol:D

In two days they will be every where!

How does it feel to be a puppet of Steve? He could have released this the same way he released the new Macs!

And look no one even cared about the new Macs!

This shows you the way Apple is going, iPads, iPhones and iPods, NO more Macs!

What a waste!

I love being a puppet with disposable income...pull my strings Steve!

I probably should have just gone to a retailer for the iPad 2 and my MacBook Pro. I'm tired of waiting, and I know it'll be late next week before I see them.

Perhaps they actually sold a lot online? In any case, don't be surprised if that 2-3 weeks is a bit quicker in reality.

If you can wait a week or two, you'll be able to walk in a store anywhere and get one.

Yes, I can wait and that's exactly what I'm going to do.

Cheers

I went to Walmart...

I waited about 45 minutes in a line of 25 people at Walmart. Got there at 4:35pm. Paid $1 less, too. Peace of cake.
