They could, probably they do. But asides the money it’s about making other people aware like you and me.

And how is making other people aware like you and me will contribute anything to this cause? If apple donates $200 million, what is my $5 gonna achieve?

Can we start supporting childhood cancer research sometime? That would be awesome to. I think that ribbon color is gold.
YOU can do this any day you decide to start your fundraiser. Go ahead. Apple do product red for AIDS.

And nothing says "AIDS" like the image of RED apples. If not for this annual trivial gesture by Tim and his Team, I would completely forget about the global AIDS crisis.
Many people do forget about it. This goes some way to correct that. You do what you do to raise the profile.

What does it matter if people forget about it but multimillion companies donate a lot of money to that cause?
I just don’t get it how raising awareness affects in any way these companies when they can still donate millions if they wanted to.

$5 dollars worth of medication maybe. See https://www.healthline.com/health/hiv-aids/cost-of-treatment#factors-affecting-price

I think this Product Red thing is great and all, but I want to know how much they are putting into this "Red" change to all their stores? We know Apple only donates like a 3% or something right? So let's say they spend $10,000 per store to do this change, wouldn't it be better if they donated all this money to the fund?
$10,000? Red decals and red employee T-shirt’s that undoubtedly were going to be worn in the holiday season anyway hardly seem to add up to $10,000.

Great Marketing for Apple....look good while profiting off peoples hearts. Why give a straight donation when you can profit from it.

Tax deductible as well :)

But I think the good that comes out of this is that they're raising awareness, not an actual number. I mean I feel conflicted when musicians do the same to raise money etc. whilst indirectly promoting their music and still living their lavish life.

Thanks! I knew I could do that years ago and already donate there. I didn’t need someone in a forum to tell me that. But if you research how little of cancer funding goes to childhood cancer funding, you wound realize how crucial it is that we take it more seriously. AIDS treatment has come so far and isn’t the death sentence is used to be and may even have a cure in the foreseeable future. Childhood cancer isn’t rare and kills kids everyday.

The reason that Aids is so profile is that actors, musicans were in high risk groups and pushed it as a major issue and it was also PC to support due to other groups that were at risk, for these reasona the this health risk has got pushed out of all proportion.

If you were the only person on the planet, I agree. But I know you and your five bucks are not, so there’s your answer. It absolutely makes sense to run such public campaigns.

Really wish Apple would start building stores in the US that look like these ones around the rest of the world... Ours look like nothing special in comparison.
Most Apple stores looks mundane compared to the flagships stores in big cities. The flagship stores likely cost a lot more to build and fit out compared to standard locations.

Can people like you ever be happy? Can you ever take the time to be informed before posting?

The cynicism in this entire thread is mind blowing. Apple does something good and people are angry about it. Holy hell.

Be honest: How many people do you think even HEARD of Product(RED) before Apple? They didn't create the project, ya know.

Why does EVERYTHING Apple does HAVE to be scrutinized to the nth degree for avarice?

Does Microsoft have a Product(RED) program?

Does Dell have a Product(RED) program?

Does HP have a Product(RED) program?

Does Acer have a Product(RED) program?

Does Samsung have a Product(RED) program?

et CETERA.

Those corporations listed above aren't even listed as "Supporters" of Product(RED).

Exactly, agreed 100%. People are very easy to manipulate and give in to emotion. I was that way too. I believed charities and donations make a big difference in the world. But a careful examination showes otherwise. It’s just another scam, another business model.

This reminds me of the various GoFundMe campaigns that people ask for donations for. Recently a couple in Jersey and homeless man are getting sued due to faking their story to get people to fund money.

I think we really have to ask HOW charities are using that money. I've learned that understanding that process will help you make a better decision when donating. For example the Susan G Komen breast cancer awareness was previously tarnished due to the former CEO taking $700,000 for salary. It makes you wonder why did she need that much to run that company. I don't mind donating a few dollars here and there because it's really nothing to me, but the principle of getting screwed makes me very cynical.

Now, I instead opt to donate platelets and plasma since there's extremely high demand for it by all types of patients. That's something where it is less likely to be a scam unless the major universities/hospitals sell that to the black market.

Obviously I understand that, But I fail to see what is the point to additional small donations from individuals like me, when wealthy companies offer already millions of money?

No we cannot be happy because only a tiny portion of this multi million donation actually goes to the cause. Apple does something good for its image foremost.

I get that. But it is okay to re evaluate at some point...and it is also okay to have more than one non-profit benefit from the sales of anything.
