Anyone have a clue what the "r" in iPhone Xr means? Nothing special with the liquid retina that lacks 3D Touch so any other theories?

My guess is that it isn’t as feature packed as the Xs so they chose the letter before it to signify that. Complete speculation on my part though. Curious to hear Apple’s reasoning.

Can’t even hit 699. Pathetic greed. Surely Phil has enough ill-fitting Dad jeans by now.
The obvious solution is for you to stop complaining and go start a company to make a comparable phone and sell it for less. A huge plus is if you do it without using Android (that wasn't a knock against Android, which is a solid OS).

Appears it’s missing 3D Touch, unfortunately. Its a nice feature to have once the user has the opportunity to learn how it works.

The 326 ppi and lack of 3d touch is disappointing, though the FaceID, and portrait mode were nice to see in a "cheaper" phone.

These are actually kind of more desirable than the iPhone Xs. A bigger screen with the same A12 Bionic and other internals and with fewer compromises than in previous generations on camera features even with just a single lens. In practice, all you're really missing out on is the true blacks of the OLED.

That red and that blue iPhone XR are really tempting me and I have an iPhone X already.

So Apple just introduced a "r" series phone today. How is this different from the already established "s" series?
It’s more akin to the “c” series. The “s” series being an incremental internal update to an existing design.

Well, google's new Chrome update has extensive 3d touch support...

I think 3D touch is EXCELLENT - adding tactility to a touch experience is excellent, they just are price gating the feature.

Yep. Colours weren’t enough to make XR owners feel like crap, they had to kill something else people loved as well.

It should be $699 and I’m not digging the thicker side bezels.
Why? It's the size of a Plus phone. The base Plus phone model was $800. The iPhone 8 is still there for those of you who want a smaller screen.

/I have an iPhone 7 and am not planning on upgrading this year because I'd rather get an Apple Watch than a new phone (I haven't ever had an Apple Watch but the 4 looks like the right time to jump in).

Why would they price it lower than people would pay for it? Especially when they're still selling the 7 and 8 models?

It's "cheaper than the 8 Plus" says Phil... yes, but more expensive than the iPhone 8 it really replaces. So once again, Apple hikes the prices across the board...

How is it a price hike? It's a new model that sits in a product slot that never existed before.

What in the hell was that? I'm so disappointed at the price point, I understand that it's got the latest specifications but I would've settled on earlier generation chipsets at a lower price. This is ridiculous! Apple has the opportunity to truly be worldwide and easily exceed Android marketshare if they wanted to but they refuse to do it.

I know it's often been said that they hate producing "garbage products" but the truth is we have many examples of companies creating quality products for a lot less. I do love the new design of the iPhone 10R but man what a disappointment. I was actually thinking they might let it go for $499 but I was dead wrong. Yes, some people will argue "Oh, just earn more" but it's not even about the money, it's about the price to performance/feature benefits. Why would anyone simply spend more for an Apple label?

Anyway, I'm incredibly disappointed. I do love the design more of the iPhone 10 R over the other iPhones but I guess I'll stick with Android for longer. Just as an example we have companies like Xiaomi, One Plus and others creating the same space grade aluminum phones with curved glass and they start as low as $189USD with a Snapdragon 625, 4GB RAM & excellent cameras for the price point. I'm not suggesting Apple has to go that low, but the point is you can get amazing phones for a lot less on the Android side and it should be possible for Apple to do it.
