Wow, insane. Much more computer than I was expecting. Really wish I had the money to upgrade right now!

Wet excited about the iMac Pro, something they didn't say but eluded to in the MacBook presentation is the eGPU solutions over Thunderbolt 3 I'm guessing you could run another Vega card along side the internal.

Pretty sure they could've just gone with the Core i9s and non ecc ram, which would end up a bit cheaper too, but **** yeah Mac VR is going to be awesome

Is this the pro machine we were promised with expandability?

Of course it isn't.

Did anybody bother to read Apple's own statements on the Mac Pro and iMac Pro from a few months back? They said a new iMac Pro was coming (though nobody expected it to be as powerful as what was announced) and that a new Mac Pro would be coming in 2018.

Were people asking for these things in an iMac? Just update the damn Mac Pro already.

Yes they have been in the 2017 iMac Refresh Wishlist thread.

So... 18 core CPU, 8GB Graphics, 128GB RAM - how much is that going to cost do we reckon? I use Word a lot so that would be just up my street!

Apple's own sales figures. 20% of Mac sales are desktops and of those, over 90% are iMacs and next is the Mac Pro. So that means the Mac Mini is probably 1% or less of all Mac sales - or around 50,000 units a quarter. Which is not chump numbers, I guess, but still pales compared to Mac Pros, much less iMacs (to say nothing of the laptops).

I suspect that this is that Mac. I doubt Apple would release two separate types of Mac Pros. I wouldn't be surprised if little to nothing in the iMac Pro is upgradable. IMO, that's the real difference between a consumer computer and a "pro" computer: how upgradable it is. I've been able to continue building out my 2013 Mac Pro to keep it up to speed. I'm not that excited about the iMac Pro, but I'll reserve final judgment until I see the specs.

In addition to the new iMac Pro, Apple is working on a completely redesigned, next-generation Mac Pro architected for pro customers who need the highest-end, high-throughput system in a modular design, as well as a new high-end pro display.

The iMac Pro is more powerful than the 2013 Mac Pro, but that just means the 2018 Mac Pro - WHICH APPLE HAS CONFIRMED IS COMING - will be a real beast.

Have they confirmed 2018?

The iMac Pro looks like the computer that Apple thought they could replace the Mac Pro with, until that realised that some people actually need a desktop rather that an all in one iMac.

For everyone complaining about this as a replacement for the mac pro.... ITS NOT This is a separate product, Apple announced they're working on a new upgradable mac pro a few months ago, releasing next year!

High-core CPUs. Vega GPUs. USB-C and USB-A. Everything the forums have been asking for for six months and people are already complaining about it in the WDCC and iMac Update threads.

Literally no one has asked for those things in a non-upgradable integrated configuration. What most of us want is an expandable, upgradable, usable Mac Pro unlike the current generation, not a iMac Pro.
