I'm interested to see how watch movies will be like. I'm guessing it's gonna be like a home theatre setup? I'm guessing if you and friends wanted to watch the same thing it would be done via SharePlay?

I bet this is going to be flop.

Too ugly, too expensive, niche device, small market. Not an everyday device.

This is indeed a tough decision.

Original leaked image pretty close!

Forget that. One day we'll have ARVR contacts
2026 we get metamaterials and metalenses… THAT is the real target for mainstream market. This is developer technology.

These are what is possible to design with current lens technology. Nanosized lenses will compress this to sunglasses size and its not far off. 2026, so they likely have prototypes already. AND they came out with this so the entire spatial industry doesn’t die on the vine…

This is incredible … the end of an era has started … this like the iPhone is paving what AR is … so much comes in my mind as what I can do with this thing … bye bye TV set bye bye computer screen bye bye iPad on a plane …
Yupp. What Apple has released is less of an Oculus rival but more of a re imagination of the Mac + a large TV/Projector.

It’s not cheap but neither is a 16 inch MacBook Pro with extra RAM. Furthermore this the the Vision Pro with 2 4k displays.

There will be a cheaper Vision.

Personally I think the price is reasonable. It's bleeding edge tech. There is nothing out there that comes close.

If the battery life was better I'd probably grab one but I'll hold off for a "Vision SE" or "Vision 4 Pro".

You can’t show off you have the latest all that easily walking around like an iPhone since this is largely a home bound device. Deal breaker right there.

Time to go scuba diving or skiing. 😂
I think this tech will be great once you can have normal glasses that can blend seamlessly. It will happen at some point.
The problem here is that normal glasses will never give you an immersive experience like the one shown.

Yes, almost certainly.

It will either involve something like this where the glasses are no more obtrusive than eye glasses, or where the displays are projected rather than worn.

This reminds me way too much of devices used in stories where we *have* blown ourselves up. Ready Player One, at least one Star Trek episode comes to mind, though I can't remember all the details. An alternate, dystopian version of the ship, has lost its holodecks and stuff, they are using a (still much smaller, wireless) device like this to escape their dystopian reality. The alternate captain wears it . . . in his death scene, while the ship blows up around him.

So based on what you just said we know where we will eventually end up. The question is when does this start, and how do we get there?

Have these last 10 years with various devices like Oculus, Valve and now Apple being the genesis of where we will eventually end up. There is no question this device is going to start out niche as this entire space is niche. But if you think this eventually goes mainstream it has to start somewhere. I do not believe this is all going away like a cheap pair of 3D glasses that movie theaters give out in the 80s or what 3D TVs had 10-15 years ago. 3D in the past is just a mere 180 degree stereoscopic video.

It does make us ask who is this device aimed at? Businesses, developers, rich consumers? It just seems such a left-field price for something that has a fairly public release. There’s alternatives on the market now much much cheaper and I’m struggling to even be the least bit curious.
It's a computer don't think of it as an accessory. That is the price computers used to cost before we went with cheap Dell and hp crap. IBM PC's and PS/2 were 3-4k themselves...and compared to an iPhone...price is fine....infact I excepted 8-10k so I was pretty much excited and happy with the 3500.

Existing products sre nothing like this capability. There is nothing on the market now much much cheaper. Nothing even close.

This is probably the thread with the FASTEST growth to 1000 posts in a long time (can MR admin confirm that?)…that said, wow, I guess they are really trying to change computing and the consumer tech interface. It’s not normal when a product has some speculation around pricing and Apple comes out HIGHER than street rumors. some said maybe $2999, some thought based on other VR/AR type headsets in the marketplace it MIGHT be $1999, I split the diff and thought that would be a win - $2499… but nearly $4K in a high tax state like CA/NY/NJ/IL, this is going to have such limited adoption for I think the next year. YES, it will be the cabbie patch doll of XMAS 2023, little Richie rich Bobby or Becky will just HAVE to have it NOW.

I just don’t think the markets, consumers are ready for this type of transition just yet. We’ll see..

Please show me where the device has a clear front through which you view reality.

You can sit down now.
Please show me where I said the device has a clear front window? The very nature of AR versus VR means field of view is not "completely obscured". Words.

Finally your boss will be able to bring your whole office (virtual) to your home. No more “I am not in my office” excuse. You know it will happen.
