Exciting and terrifying

I love new tech and this is crazy what it has packed in to it. If Apple can bring prices down and make it a true replacement to iPhone then it will change the world. And that's the terrifying part....

I've saw enough Black Mirror episodes and dystopian movies to know where this goes. You think people are detached from reality and addicted to technology/social media now? Give it 5-10 years and we'll be wishing we still had smartphones. Instead of everyone staring at their phone they'll be wearing headsets and you'll only see a simulated model of their faces.

The VisionPro checked all my boxes already!! Plus, have months to save up more fun money before I buy on the AppleCard installment plan 😁. So glad my new retirement planner called last week before he converted my Apple stock into more generic mutual funds along with the other funds I have. I would have kicked myself to the moon! The way I see it, I haven’t bought a new tv or projector since 2011 so I’m due a fabulous way to enjoy media in my retirement.

Wow color me disappointed to say the least. It's just a glorified Quest, sure the specs are much better but it's also 10x the price. I didn't see a SINGLE use that any other existing VR headset couldn't do. I also only saw the intro from Apple, they didn't mention any AR features at all, is there another presentation on AR? I had high hopes for this, but as is it's going to flop HARD.
Let's set up a betting site. I will happily take all the bets from folks who claim it's going to flop HARD.

Can’t wait to see reviews of this thing. I think it’s good for the price and can see getting a 2nd or 3rd gen one.

It does make us ask who is this device aimed at? Businesses, developers, rich consumers? It just seems such a left-field price for something that has a fairly public release. There’s alternatives on the market now much much cheaper and I’m struggling to even be the least bit curious.
Anyone over 25 with a real job. Especially single guys in their 20s and 30s with a large disposable income. $3,499 isn't that big of a deal.

It's not meant for teenagers living at home with their parents, or in college. There are other demographics where a $1,000 purchase is done on a whim. $3,499 is choosing between a 1-week cruise, going to DisneyWorld for a week, or forgoing those for these. Then going on the cruise or DisneyWorld in 2 months.

I very much doubt this medium of working will be adopted by the majority. It’s not exactly healthy for collaboration or building work relationships and I doubt a huge number of businesses will use it. I can see it being more of a leisure device like games consoles are. Then again I saw rumours a while back that suggested this version would be £2k so it’s a limited concept in its own right.
There are already a number if large business using headsets in their engineering and product depts… https://varjo.com/solutions/design-and-engineering/

Is anyone else wondering about the price? It sounds more like something to target enterprise at $3499. I only use Apple products, but even I have a hard time justifying that price.
If it replaces your MacBook Pro you’re basically already there. But I’m actually not sure about how capable it would be in that sense.

Wow, Apple made a good looking AR/VR goggle. I will try not to look too cool wearing this device. 👽

Bob Iger. Disney. Come on Grandpa. This is gonna be huge for porn. This is not a critisim, porn had been the canary in the coal mine for decades. $3500 for the ultimate porn experience. Yah.

Anyone who bought AirPods Max must be able to justify it. I am.

If the quality of the video and audio is as good as the presentation says it is (4K HDR + 3D), it's really not a bad price. $3,500 will get you, maybe, an 83" OLED TV. This could give you a 100" 4K HDR TV that is also 3D. Plus it has Spatial Audio included, which while not true Dolby Atmos, might be good enough. If the other streamers, like Netflix, Paramount and Peacock support this like Disney and Apple, it could be a very viable Home Theater option.
