I think a ring would be great as long as it has more than a day battery life.

Apple Watch is boring and the less than a day (IRL) battery is just such a pain. I like to go camping on weeeknds and be great to track hiking steps… but oh no, Apple Watch only lasts a day…. Pfffft

Interesting rumour. I have an Oura ring (got it when they handed out free lifetime memberships). Their analytics are great! I use with an Apple Watch for daytime tracking and workouts and the Oura ring to measure sleep and stress levels. Great to be in a single ecosystem, but Apple would need to step up their software game, the Oura interface is great! Maybe they should just buy Oura……..

I have a very flawed but expensive Fitbit Sense watch and have been wavering about the price vs use of an Apple Watch for a long time. A ring would be perfect for me and I could then switch to my other preference, a stainless steel Casio watch! Such a nice, cheap solution. But wait, Apple wouldn’t want that.
There is one ring that's US $99, the others are $250-350, some with subscriptions. Where do you think Apple is going to come in on this range?

I've had two Apple Watches, and I have never even approached half power after 24 hours use. After a day and a half I have about a third left. What am I doing wrong?

How does this work for sizing. As a jeweller, the biggest problem for stocking rings is that sizes vary, obviously.
If I were to guess, like every other health tracking ring out there. There are quite a lot of them besides the Oura. All of them essentially work the same way. If you know your ring size, you order it, if you don’t, you get a set of plastic fake rings to try on until you decide what size fits best on the finger you want to wear it on, and you order it. If Apple can handle many different Vision Pro light shield sizes, handling multiple ring sizes isn’t a big deal. Most ring companies suggest wearing health tracking rings on the middle finger, not the ring finger, though I wear my Ringconn on my ring finger.

Rumor is that it has a small air bladder you can manipulate with a small button on the ring. Seems like a reasonable way to deal with the size issue.

100%

This is why jewellery, neck ties and long sleeves are frowned upon in machine tool environments. I once witnessed the immediate aftermath of a man who was dragged into a milling machine by the long sleeve of his shirt. It was like something out of a horror movie. He lost his arm. And a lot of blood 🤮
Strongly agree. I worked in a tool and die shop while in college, and although we all wore blue lab coat type garments (German-owned company, it was how they did it in the old country), when we worked on any machinery we had those sleeves rolled way up, no rings or watches, and safety goggles when appropriate. Even 1/4HP motors are powerful enough to rip your appendages off.

My precious... shareholder value ring

BTW: What is it with AI and extra fingers?
Jedi-Ears 😂😂😂

When the Apple Watch was about to be launched I was excited but didn’t buy it as it just wasn’t what I’d expected. I ultimately settled for a Withings hybrid watch which does have all the health features I was looking for.
About that ring: yes I’d wear one but I expect to settle for a Movano or Rockley Photonics ring as soon as they’ll launch one for men. Not the Oura. Subscriptions are a no-go area.

Where are you buying your ring? As much as a smart watch. Hyperbole much? my battery died in my Oura ring. They sent a replacement. Customer service is not that hard.

'Starts' from 300 dollars plus 5.99 dollars a month subscription. Say total for a years ownership around 370 dollars starting price:

Apple Watch starts from 249 dollars:

No hyperbole, just facts.

I have an Oura ring and love it -- for the most part.

The one thing I love is that I can shelve my Apple Watch, which I've hated the design of since I got it. I have a big collection of classic watches and prefer to wear those over the Apple Watch any day. The Oura ring works great for day-to-day health monitoring, but for my workouts I do put on the Apple Watch for the better ecosystem usage.

My Apple Watch has been a bit flaky lately (as, it seems, most of my Apple devices -- WTH Apple???), but you can't beat the interaction with it and Apple Health. I have to admit, I have looked at other devices though, due to the AW flakiness.

The Oura ring works great for cardio and non-weight lifting workouts. I don't trust it on my finger for heavy weight training.

I'm hoping Apple comes out with a ring. I'm also hoping they stop with this idiotic boondoggle with Vision Pro and put more attention on their core line problems. A ring would be a useful addition to the lineup, unlike recent releases...
No argument with that. But I find the monthly sub a bit tasteless for an expensive ring. I can appreciate wanting to wear a watch collection. If I didn't have an Apple Watch I probably wouldn't wear one and just use my phone lol.

I'd have zero interest in a ring, they seem pointless. Rather see more improvements and advancements in the Watch, which has more space for miniaturization and more sensors, larger battery, etc. 🤠

Always good to have competition. Not expecting to see this new product from Apple for at least the next 1 to 2 years.

I had a Gen 2 Oura ring for a couple years and dropped it when I felt pressured into upgrading prematurely because of the short window of time given to buy with no subscription. Had they simply said all loyal customers with a Gen 1 or 2 can upgrade at any time without subscription, I might have kept using it.

My biggest concern with these, as others have said, is battery health. It just seems terrible to keep having more and more devices with tiny and non-serviceable batteries that will be dead in 2-3 years. My Gen 2 Oura ring had battery issues after about 1.5 years. They replaced it for me, but the warranty was 2 years back then. It’s now only 1, unless you pay extra.

Would love such a ring. I prefer wearing classic watches
I wear a Whoop band around my biceps. It’s a really nice fitness and sleep tracker. Not exactly cheap, but I’m no regretting the 2 year subscription I got on Black Friday. Apologies is somebody already mentioned.

I would I miss wearing a conventional watch. Honestly I would rather a Fitbit Charge or Inspire sized device. I used to wear conventional watch on my left wrist and a Fitbit type band on my right wrist.
