Don't they usually preview the new iOS with the developers by now? I remember it happening as early as February. We haven't seen any screenshots yet. Won't the developers need time to adjust their apps for the new look? Perhaps we won't see iOS7 till 2014...

There's a developer conference coming up right now...

Wait, flatter design? So iOS7 is going to look like Windows 8?:confused::confused:

Just what we need here. Another stupid comment claiming hat Microsoft invented the concept of flat design paradigms, and anyone who uses a flat design copies hem.

Seriously, if you sowed me a screenshot of iOS 7 and it actually looked like windows phone 8, then I'd say that they are copying. But if the concept of a flat design brings you to that conclusion, then I would laugh at a comment like that.

While it has fallen behind the competition in some areas (notably notifications and sharing between applications), iOS remains solid and the aesthetic appealing. And it performs better than the competition on a given hardware platform. Apple can afford to launch their new hardware and leave the OS upgrade until later.

For those desperate for some of the advantages of Android (i.e. how it facilitates communication between apps), iOS's core weaknesses won't be going anywhere soon.

Why haven't we seen samples of the new look then? Have I missed it? By now we would have had pages of screenshots in this forum.

have u ever seen screenshots of the new OS before its official announcement?

the closest was some new apps like the wallet 1 or 2 days before the keynote

Anyone else miss Steve Jobs? When he was around it was more or less certain things would be done mostly right.

Nowadays... we just don't know. They might completely screw things up.

I know one thing for sure; I won't be upgrading to iOS 7 until I've heard some reports from others about it!

Perhaps a case of the ol' rose tinted specs?

Mobile Me?
Button-less iPod Shuffle?
Magic Mouse?
Leather-look apps?
Metal Macbook Pros that melted?
Scratch-prone iPod Nano?
G4 Cube?
The iMac "puck" mouse?
ROKR?
Antenna-Gate?

Don't get me wrong, Jobs was a legendary CEO, but we're being unfair to current Apple if we compare things today to an idealized past that never was. Jobs was a genius, but he was human.

The earliest we get the betas is the week of WWDC.

I'd rather they take their time and deliver something solid than something half-baked.

This is what troubles me. I get the feeling that instead of getting Ive's complete vision, Apple are going to lose their nerve and release bits of it in iOS 7, followed by bits in incremental updates. Which may end up causing it to look half-finished and fail to win customer support.

Forget September - if it's not ready, it's not ready. Trying to shoehorn things into existing release schedules doesn't work. Learn from Maps, Apple. If you want to put out new hardware, it doesn't *have to* come with a new version of the OS. People will still buy it, even if you give a "preview" of what's to come when you launch the next iPhone/iPad.

Hooray. No bookshelves. Let's just have a nice generic list view and a grid view with the magazine and book covers. It will look just like the Photos app.

Yawn.

Best news is a complete overhaul of email.

I wouldn't mind them delaying iOS7 to have that included at ALL.

Am I the only one that finds iOS mail fine? Its wickedly simple and easy to use.

If its something like the mailbox app that lets you easily set email reply reminders and keep you at a zero inbox that might make a bit more sense. It seems we are coming to a time in tech where competitors just come up with features to say they have done something new but are complicated, useless and never used.

I also find that gmail conversation threads get confusing. I find it odd you can't just delete one message in the email convo thread you can only delete the whole thread. If there's a way to do that I'd love to know because I can't figure it out.

That is one of the issues I have with mail, its too simple. I use the mail.app more then any other app on my phone.

I get what you're saying but if there's someone I trust to design something well, it's Jony Ive. IMO his individual impact on modern Apple is second only to Steve's. I can't wait to see what he does with iOS.

To be honest Jony was given absolute freedom to design by Steve because he trusted him so much. I feel Jony was the real design genius hidden behind the scene for a long time and not Steve. I feel the stuff that Jony will do (given time) will be great! Steve gave Jony complete organizational freedom something he gave to NO ONE ELSE READ HERE

This says something and Jony has been behind the design of the products for a long time and is what has been driving them to be great. NOw that he oversee's both software and hardware design amazing things will happen

I was literally about to post this reply. Steve Jobs had many great successes at Apple, but he had just as many failures. People only remember the good parts though.

Boo, move on.

To be fair the maps issues were content not design.

Yes, but what people complained about was that it wasn't ready--and it wasn't.

Now, even if Apple somehow makes Maps better than Google Maps the public perception will *still* be that Apple Maps are trash and Google's are better.

They most definitely don't want the same issue to happen with all of iOS--that would basically kill Apple. However, it would be almost as bad if Apple dares to release the next iPhone *without* an iOS overhaul so the pressure is on.

I think this is going to be the most significant period in the recent history of the company. This revision will either keep Apple relevant or people will look back upon this overhaul as the beginning of the end.

I think the biggest challenge with iOS 7 is going to be : How will they rip off Windows phone and not breach the "Do not copy eachother" agreement Apple and Microsoft enjoy

They shouldn't rip off Windows phone to begin with, there is no need to, iOS has been far more successful.
