Gesture control. Where have I heard about that before? And the comments I recall called it gimicky.

Exactly. If it's Apple doing it, it's golden, if others, it's crap. At least on this board. Ive doesn't have to research much on this front, Samsung has it all implemented already.

Anyone else miss Steve Jobs? When he was around it was more or less certain things would be done mostly right.

Nowadays... we just don't know. They might completely screw things up.

I know one thing for sure; I won't be upgrading to iOS 7 until I've heard some reports from others about it!

In Ive, we trust! I have confidence in the man. Let him bake iOS 7 nice and slow.

Two things.

One? "Ive is also methodically reviewing new designs, seeking to avoid a repeat of last year's release of map tools that were widely panned" Will make the wait, if there is a wait, worth it.

Second? Flat iOS ≠ Windows 8. It = the current Podcast app.

Really?

Steve Jobs was the reason why things were done mostly right? Because he went down and coded iOS versions 1-5, right? And every OS X version?

This needs to be done right and be as bug free as possible. The bugs that were with iOS 6 prevented a lot of people I know from upgrading to that version due to the wi-fi issue. The ones that did I had to train and get them used to working around the bug till the later updates were released to fix the issue. Things like this should not exist. The software and hardware should work solid when it comes to wi-fi networking, after all thats a core key feature of the iOS devices.

The one thing in the back of my mind is that they will screw something up thats simple and should be a none issue.

All I want is a good working iPhone 5S when it comes out along with a solid working iOS for iPad.

In my opinion this yearly cycle of updating OS X and iOS is almost to quick of a time frame. They should slow it down and reallty work with what they have. I could see a iOS 6.5 release to be a nice middle update to iOS with everything working with out any issues. Then release iOS 7 in January with some cool new features and what not, as long as its bug free as possible.

Wait, flatter design? So iOS7 is going to look like Windows 8?:confused::confused:

No, Different designs can be flat and still be completely different, flat means less gloss etc, Stock Android became very flat in 4.0 and above, Windows Phone is flat too, yet they're completely different.

Form has to follow function, which is one of the key parts of "flat" design. Hopefully increased functionality (efficiency) is part of the overall UI.

In fairness it was like that for a good 2 years prior to Job's passing. It was just spoken about and hyped a hell of a lot more after he died.

No, I don't miss him. Most executives are still there. Also, the best iPhone - apart from the original - ever started to go into development under Tim Cook: iPhone 4.

Steve Jobs was very often on sick leaf and for a big part of 2009, a bit of 2010 and almost entire 2011, Tim Cook and not Steve Jobs was in charge.

Apple has had bigger screw ups under Steve Jobs than under Tim Cook (so far).

Like most people have stated, I would not mind the delay. As for what it looks like - I am sure it's not going to be blatantly windows 8-like.

I don't care what the interface looks like as long as it has the intuitiveness that the current OS has. Moreover, I am confident that regardless of the direction they go in, the OS will be bullet proof and stable like iOS 5 and 6 have been for me. This is probably the biggest reason why i'm an apple fan.:apple::apple::apple::apple:

Good industrial design doesn't necessarily translate to good graphical user interface design. I hope it turns out good but just cause its Ive doing it doesn't mean it's going to be great.

It sounds like what you're saying is that "flatter" is synonymous with "blander". I don't know why Apple would want to make iOS into a cheap looking fisher-price "My first Smartphone" like Android

While Steve had a talent for knowing a good thing when he saw it he was by no means infallible in this respect. I think we have as good a chance of seeing something good as when Steve ran the show just maybe not announced with as much style ;)

It's better to get it right, and everyone on board than have a Windows Millennium Edition catastrophe... I'm just sincerely hoping that this 'lobotomy' isn't terminal... Or is this more like liposuction?

I hope not, if they delay this then people will simply chalk it off to another fault of Apple without SJ. They need to deliver this on time to show that they are not crippled without him.

This flatter Windows 8 like design makes it sound like Apple's now starting to copy Microsoft, uh oh!

I like the current glossy, dimensional design and hope that this isn't going to make the OS bland and boring just because he thinks a wooden book case is gimmicky. I certainly prefer that over a flat icon with the Letter B on it.
