I hate texting people on Android because I don't get responses on all my devices, I don't get read-receipts, or anything. I don't know if Android users would use this, but I'd appreciate it if they did.
Activate "continuity" or Text Message Forwarding or whatever it's called. I can send and receive SMS text and, as well as, send and receive phone calls to landlines and non-apple cellphones from my Wi-Fi only iPad and iMac. Everything, all text messages and phone calls sync across them too.

I think it works on VZW and ATT now, but it started out first with T-Mobile. I think you need iOS 9 on T-Mobile and maybe 9.3 on VZW / ATT.

I hope that happens, iMessage and FaceTime are the only 2 features I miss from iOS. However, I know quite a few people who only use iPhone because of iMessage and they would likely switch to Android if Apple makes iMessage available on that platform. I'm not sure if this move actually makes sense since it could tank their hardware sales, which is how Apple makes its money.

Hmm okay, well I guess it's different in Europe (I'm guessing you are from there), than in the UK. Everyone is here using iMessage and I've never seen anyone use Facebook's WhatsApp (apart from continental visitors).

See how that works? ;)
And yes, iMessage seems to be at least as popular as WhatsApp in the UK.

Haha yeah. I guess I'll continue using whatsapp, since I see nothing wrong with it, while other people can continue using iMessage. To each his own, right? ;)

It sorta does make sense in the fact, not everyone upgrades their phones every year or two, tablets and computers even less. Apple can't rely purely on hardware sales forever, smartphone sales are reaching a plateau in western markets, in developing economy's iPhones are beyond the reach of the majority.

I know there's the iPhone SE starting at $400, which is pretty cheap but in many countries that is the equivalent of a person's wage for several months of the year.

Apple will have to branch out more and more into cross platform distribution of Apps and services, maybe charge a yearly subscription (WhatsApp had a yearly subscription service of €0.99) I could see many people on Android paying for using iMessage, myself included if this rumour becomes a reality, once it functions the same way as iMessage currently does on iOS/Mac.

One app for all your conversations instead of 4, secure encryption, SMS fallback, it's a no brainer.

That's why people pay the premium for Apple products.

Let 'em in but charge them, say $9.99/month for the service, and see how many takers are out there.

Relax, I won't get it still. Android users are split across many platforms competing for iMessage attention including WhatsApp and Telegram, not to mention Google's 3 (?) different services.

err...am I supposed to care if you get it or not?

my family and friends are going to install it. that's all I ever needed.

and i know plenty of android users i don't regularly talk to that are complaining that they're missing SMS messages because the texts ended up on their ipads.

Hmm okay, well I guess it's different in the States (I'm guessing you guys are from there), than in Europe. Everyone is here using WhatsApp and I've never seen anyone use Apple's iMessage.
I'm sure it's different! It's also different for different groups of people. Most of my friends aren't very tech savvy, I was on Facebook back when you had to be invited, did the whole Twitter thing before people even knew what it was.

Before the 6+ came out I kept saying if Apple doesn't make a larger one I'm switching, they kept me when they did. Now they just don't have anything I think is worth keeping me. At the moment anyways. I've had every iPhone since the original and have had a few androids for work phones, but the time may be coming!

Maybe everyone you know uses WhatsApp. But let's not generalise 20+ countries and millions of people shall we.

Other than if it is a text sent to a foreign number where it will be very expensive, I've never gotten why it is so bad to see a green bubble. Almost every plan has unlimited texting so it doesn't seem like a big deal.

1. America isn't the entire world.. You guys have some pretty good plans.

2. If you're texting someone in another country's it's not included in unlimited.

What's wrong with What's App? It's fast, cross-platform & works pretty well for most people.
It's owned by Facebook, photos and videos are sent compressed and without metadata, no Apple Watch support and it is owned by Facebook. That's wrong with it.

Good call, they could beat whatsapp in Brazil (after the next justice ban)...
Remaind me this video, not the arrogant thing, but Apple doing something good that every body wants to use.

No you're not, your initial reply made it seem like you were waiting for all Android users to install it.

"Telegram is a cloud-based mobile and desktop messaging app ..."

Cloud-based - hardly the inclusive App you speak of.

I don't get it, why, if it is cloud-based, do you imply that it lacks inclusiveness?

As you personally once said "relax"

It'd be nice if people would at least try a competing product before deciding Apple is the better fit. The user to whom you said wise decision hadn't tried WhatsApp.

Decisions based on actual knowledge and experience are usually wiser.

But you're right, I should relax.

The "It's owned by Facebook" argument doesn't negate the security of the platform. I don't have a Facebook account but still find that WhatsApp is a good messaging platform.

Photos and videos are indeed sent compressed, and some people value that in a messaging platform. Some people can be on a data-limited plan where group messaging, texting of pictures and videos can take a big bite out of that data plan. Not having the meta-data isn't great though it's good for privacy reasons. Using something like Google Photos or Flickr or OneDrive is more ideal for sharing original-size photos and videos. But to each their own.

The no Apple Watch support must suck, maybe they'll roll it out in the future.
