Sorry. Since "Rumored" was the second word in this thread title, I thought that was a given. You forgot option C:
Leave iMessage an Apple device thing.
That's an option, and a more likely one.

Activate "continuity" or Text Message Forwarding or whatever it's called. I can send and receive SMS text and, as well as, send and receive phone calls to landlines and non-apple cellphones from my Wi-Fi only iPad and iMac. Everything, all text messages and phone calls sync across them too.I hate texting people on Android because I don't get responses on all my devices, I don't get read-receipts, or anything. I don't know if Android users would use this, but I'd appreciate it if they did.
Hmm okay, well I guess it's different in Europe (I'm guessing you are from there), than in the UK. Everyone is here using iMessage and I've never seen anyone use Facebook's WhatsApp (apart from continental visitors).
See how that works?
And yes, iMessage seems to be at least as popular as WhatsApp in the UK.
I hope that happens, iMessage and FaceTime are the only 2 features I miss from iOS. However, I know quite a few people who only use iPhone because of iMessage and they would likely switch to Android if Apple makes iMessage available on that platform. I'm not sure if this move actually makes sense since it could tank their hardware sales, which is how Apple makes its money.
I could see many people on Android paying for using iMessage ... One app for all your conversations instead of 4, secure encryption, SMS fallback, it's a no brainer.
Relax, I won't get it still. Android users are split across many platforms competing for iMessage attention including WhatsApp and Telegram, not to mention Google's 3 (?) different services.
I'm sure it's different! It's also different for different groups of people. Most of my friends aren't very tech savvy, I was on Facebook back when you had to be invited, did the whole Twitter thing before people even knew what it was.Hmm okay, well I guess it's different in the States (I'm guessing you guys are from there), than in Europe. Everyone is here using WhatsApp and I've never seen anyone use Apple's iMessage.
FINALLY!! GOODBYE WHATSAPP!!
Maybe everyone you know uses WhatsApp. But let's not generalise 20+ countries and millions of people shall we.Hmm okay, well I guess it's different in the States (I'm guessing you guys are from there), than in Europe. Everyone is here using WhatsApp and I've never seen anyone use Apple's iMessage.
Other than if it is a text sent to a foreign number where it will be very expensive, I've never gotten why it is so bad to see a green bubble. Almost every plan has unlimited texting so it doesn't seem like a big deal.
It's owned by Facebook, photos and videos are sent compressed and without metadata, no Apple Watch support and it is owned by Facebook. That's wrong with it.What's wrong with What's App? It's fast, cross-platform & works pretty well for most people.
err...am I supposed to care if you get it or not?
my family and friends are going to install it. that's all I ever needed.
and i know plenty of android users i don't regularly talk to that are complaining that they're missing SMS messages because the texts ended up on their ipads.
"Telegram is a cloud-based mobile and desktop messaging app ..."
Cloud-based - hardly the inclusive App you speak of.
As you personally once said "relax"

Guess not....Bump.
Any hope that this comes out in this year's WWDC
