Thank God !! If this is true, that is. I've been waiting for a dark mode for ages, I'm utterly baffled why there isn't one. People do use their phone in the dark and at night. That's one less friction point for my wife when I use my phone in bed and keep her up, or get an alert which lights up the entire room at 4am.

Cue the naysayers saying dark mode isn't needed. Let me guess we need a bazillion more Emoji skin shades?

iPhones have a theatre mode - its called the "OFF" button.

But seriously, can they just issue a sodding fix for the iPhone 6 battery problem. Its getting really annoying now.

Hopefully it punches you for trying to watch a movie on your phone.
I meant for using your phone while you're in the theater

If someone pulling up their phone 6 rows away distracts you that much are you really even that interested in the movie you paid way too much to see? Sounds like you and whoever you go to the movies with enjoy the head shake and eye roll you do when someone looks at their phone during a movie.
When you're sitting in a dark room watching a movie and someone has a 4"-5" screen on full brightness shining toward you, it's annoying and rude. Especially like you said, since I paid so much to watch the movie. I don't think I'm alone on this one.

I don't use my phone in a movie theater, but I will check notifications.

You have never looked at your phone in a movie before? I'm aware that you are not alone, there are many people who get upset over nothing at all.

If it even turns out to be a thing, I will not use theater mode if it turns off all notifications. There's a switch on the side of the iPhone that toggles sound/vibrate and "Theater mode" is not needed to adjust brightness. Swipe up, it's in control center.

I'm confused, isn't theatre mode designed to eliminate this issue? I've also never actually seen someone put their phone on full brightness and shine it directly at me, but I would agree that would be annoying. But if the phone is in their lap, or their head is over it then even if they are directly in front of me I don't notice it at all. Have you actually had someone turn around and aim the phone at you?

This is one of those issues that greatly confuses me. Apple is trying to solve an issue here and some actually are saying it's not needed. Sorry but my phone is my lifeline and if my kid is in the hospital, or my server at work melts down I want to know about it. If I'm going to be on the phone more than a few seconds I will walk out of the theatre and take care of my business (although arguably getting out of my seat is more disruptive), but it's not acceptable to completely turn off my phone either and ignore the outside world. Thankfully not everyone is this short sighted and Apple is possibly offering a solution here that should make everyone happy, well except the ones who will never be happy.
