Theater Mode will be what MacRumors forum visitors can activate to view the flurry of negative comments after Apple only releases a iPhone 7S series this year and no "10-Year Anniversary" phone. (Popcorn not included.)

Thinking about it, they probably wouldn't call it "Dark Mode" because if it was leaked we'd know it's definitely coming. They might've just changed the name to keep us all guessing!

And remember 9.3 introduced Night Shift... 10.3 will introduce Theatre Mode which hopefully is a dark mode!!

It's the end of the world for you but what if there's an actual emergency? You have no way of knowing when you are rows away and someone pulls out their phone. Phones are not only for entertainment buddy they are a line of communication. I look at my texts because idk if it is important or not. Sorry I don't blow off the entire world when I sit in a dark room watching a movie.

You make it out like people are playing angry birds with the volume all the way up

Assuming people are just intentionally being jerks to you for the fun of it is a jerk move.
No, people aren't necessarily being jerks on purpose. Like any drug, checking texts has become an addiction of our culture. It's called common curtesy. The world got on just fine before people checked their texts during movies. Also if it's a real emergency people can call repeatedly and do not disturb will automatically let the phone ring after those repeated calls.

Nice try for making excuses. And admitting you're one of the jerks at the movies. If the world ( your friends ) are worried about you blowing them off for a couple hours then it's time for new friends.

I rarely go to the movie theater to be honest but if I did and someone pulled out their phone and got treated as harshly as you have been treating people for this, I would defend that person. I never claimed I check my phone often in a movie or at all, just that it isn't the end of the world and it may be important.
You are completely ignoring all the things I said were a "possible" reason to check a phone.
Your insults don't bother me.

I hope it's a dark mode for iOS, but the fact that on tvOS it's called "dark" and not "theatre" has my hopes pretty low.

Won't happen. Requires a new API that devs would need to implement in the SDK. Unlikely to happen before a WWDC but not impossible given AppleTV changes of late. But for it to work well, devs will need to implement it.

I hope so. This is much needed. Sleep mode doesn't quite cut it for this reason.
10.2 was in beta for 1.5 months. 7.1 was in beta for 4 months, longer than a typical x.0 release! So like you say, really not impossible. Besides, even when apple give devs plenty of time to adopt new features, they still take ages, beyond the beta period. If Apple support all their first party apps on release, that'd be a very good start.

I rather have that idiotically huge-ass sized Night Shift button to be removed from the control center. That is just a huge waste of usability space that practically no one uses?

I also think iOS 10.3 may fix the issue with the iPhone suddenly shutting down when battery level drops below circa 35 to 40 percent. That is if Apple doesn't fix it first with an iOS 10.2.1 update....
Oh is that a recognised, widespread bug then? Had it happen twice today at exactly the percentage you describe. Luckily I had a portable charger with me to kickstart it. TheN when I removed the charger and it ran down to a similar percentage again it happened again...

I like that they're introducing these features as they are ready, instead of waiting for a point release. iOS 9.3 was a pleasant surprise last year.
Let's cross our fingers for even more features though :)

I had my battery replaced on my 6s with the free recall and my new battery lasts at least twice as much, AND it doesn't fail when < 50%. I'd suggest you do this instead if you have a 6s.

Hopefully this new setting will stop annoying notifications from popping up on your screen while you're watching a movie or videos on the device itself.

I'm sick of watching Netflix and my dumb apps pushing their notifications at the top of my screen and lowering my volume so the thing can make its notifications noise and interrupt my show.

Ugh.

That's what DND mode is for tho.
[doublepost=1483383597][/doublepost]And I highly doubt this is a dark mode. It's probably an audio booster or screen color correction for media playback. Like better saturation etc.

Do Not Disturb has been around for a while for siatuations like that (among others).

Nope the default setting only hides notifications when your phone is locked. Sure, you can change that, but a separate setting specifically designed for that would be an improvement. Not saying it's likely personally, but it's definitely distinct from DND.

Apple is preparing to begin seeding builds of iOS 10.3 to developers as soon as next month, according to Sonny Dickson, who has occasionally offered accurate information on Apple's plans from supply chain sources and other contacts. Dickson says iOS 10.3 will include a new "Theatre" mode with a "popcorn-shaped" icon in the Control Center, although he does not explain what exactly this mode will entail.

The most recent significant iOS update was iOS 10.2, which was released to the public earlier this month and included a new TV app and a number of new and updated emoji, among other changes. A new iOS 10.2.1 update is currently in beta testing.

Trend of visits to MacRumors from devices claiming to be running iOS 10.3

We've seen a steady increase in visits to MacRumors from devices claiming to be running iOS 10.3 over past several months with visits now numbering in the hundreds per day, suggesting a developer release could indeed be coming in the near future.

Apple has been rumored to be launching updated iPad models in the March or April timeframe, with the company reportedly developing some new iPad-specific software features such as improved Apple Pencil support to accompany the hardware updates. It's possible iOS 10.3 could be the update that delivers these features, although it may not be apparent in the early stages of developer seeding if the new features are exclusive to unreleased hardware.

Thats ridiculous, how about theater mode == Keep Yer Phone in Yer Damn Pocket when in a theater.

Tim: My god, Joni, if we haven't got anything new, can't we do something with design ?
Joni: Psssht, I am sooo busy designing the 7S. It will be dramatically new.
Inside an existing body, to avoid leaks.
Tim: Great. Then do someting with the iOS interface. It needs an overhaul for 3 years.
Joni: I am waiting for Greg to change the Control Center
Greg: OMG. We got that changed 10 revisions ago.
Joni: Oopsz, maybe I missed a Beta or twelve in the last couple of days.
Greg: Tim, we aren't getting anywhere with Joni. Why make him the President of Design anyway ?
Tim: Relax. He is just back from a fashion show.
Darken everything so it looks like new.
Greg: Humpfff. If it is just this Theater I have to accomodate...

I hope this means IOS 10.2.1 will be fixing some of the many bugs of the previous IOS 10 releases, like the power drain bug on previous iPhones.
