Can you really be this unaware that human sapiens come in different sizes and not everyone has the same sized hands?

I feel like a fool having to explain to you that a bigger phone will be preferable for a person with big hands, and guess what... a little phone will be preferable for a person with little hands !!

So it's really nothing to do with Apple losing design vision is it?

And yet iphon4S with a 3.5 inch screen outsold every single over 4 inch Android models. Apple surely doesnt need those big ass phones to have a hit.

Well, it seems Apple is now the neighbor trying to keep up with Jones'. Anyway, I like the iPhone 5 very much, but have seen and handled bigger screen Smart Phones. They also fit in my hand just fine.

Also, what I don't understand, is why they make a big deal about the 8-mega pixel camera on this so called new device....the iPhone 5 already has an 8-mega pixel camera. It's not big news for any phone, Smart or Not to have a decent camera on it. It's news when they don't include it or it's twice as good as that is standard on phones now.

However, 3 phones released this summer, I just don't see it. I see the 5s or what ever they are going to call it, and yes, just maybe the cheaper multi colored iPhone (iPhone 5c (cheap or color)). However the iPhone 5+ or Math or what ever it is with a 4.8" screen....I just don't see it.

As other have said, why complain about it. If you don't like a 4.8" screen, don't buy it.

And here i thought it was because they failed to keep up with ongoing trends and thought churning out hardware with carl zeiss optics will keep them on top. Then when they finally succumbed, they quarter arsed it by tacking a touch interface on a OS that wasn't built for it putting aside that their Symbian OS had grown stale, buggy and very few developers outside gaming had any interest in the platform.

If its market saturation then why are they still dominating when it comes to dumbphones?

Symbian was stagnating, but it wasn't until Elop leaked his "burning platform" memo and announced Nokia was abandoning Symbian and switching to Windows Phone (a good 11 months before the first Windows Phone shipped) that their market share cratered. It was a lot more dramatic than it needed to be. As late as January 2011 Nokia had a bigger share of the smartphone market than either Apple and Samsung. By March they were a distant third, and now they aren't in the top 5.

See, what these analysts don't realize is that the screen on the iPhone is the largest screen possible for one handed use. Apple cares so much about its customers that it will not allow them to use a phone that requires two hands on occasion.

This would only be true if everyone in the world had the same hand size. I can navigate through a 4.5" Android device with one hand just as easily as I can my iPhone 4.

...and more often than not, I'm using my iPhone 4 two handed. I find it easier to type with my index finger than I do my thumb. Does that mean Apple doesn't care about me?

No. It means everyone is a different usage scenario. There is no such thing as one size fits all. The sooner Apple realizes this, the better their products will be for everyone.

Thus, the rumor is not true. If it were true, then it would mean that 'Apple says one thing and does another, which is not possible.

They do it all the time. The iPad Mini is only their most recent example of them saying one thing, then doing another.

Why exactly should the 4" phone be "lesser" than the 5" one? Big =/= high end. If they insist on producing a large phone it shouldn't come at the expense of the regular iPhone.

That is the thinking of an Android fan, those devices always seem to loose specs when they are made smaller. Apple thankfully isn't an android manufacturer.

Apple is falling apart in public... hope they are having fun saving money on parts at the expense of innovating.

If you knew anything about the A6 SOC you wouldn't have said that.

Personally, I hope the rumor is right! I switched from a 4S to a Nexus 4 and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this screen size. My wife has a 5 and the iPhone screen is so small. Screen size was always my big complaint about the iPhone. A 4.8" screen would be amazing!

hmmm...all these larger screen rumours come out just as I'm considering jumping ship to the new Xperia Z.

I'm pretty sure Apple have bugged my office and are monitoring my internets *tinfoil hat*

Pleas do it. The best way for people to appreciate what they have is to give them a try of something worse. If anything I learn about Sony is they make heavily compromised products for no reason. Earlier previewers have already complained about the crappy display and the small battery for a 5 inch HD phone.

How charming. Now your wife has a better phone.

This is such a rubbish rumour, I'm disappointed this site even ran it. iPhone Math ummmmm yeah that is total crap that Apple would name a product to make no sense like Samsung would. This should be April fools. The 4.8 - 5" screen size may be good for Samsung, but what kind of user experience does it deliver - crap. Apple doesn't follow its competition, they do what's good for them to make the best possible products, not chase market share like everyone else. If this happened, I would join the circus and marry a midget :)

Can everyone please try to remember this just in case? ;)

Like it or not there is a market for larger screen phones, there is also a market for the smaller screen phones as well, hence the reason why Samsung sell the normal sized S3, and the S3 mini, also the Note is just an even bigger version of the S3.

If Apple want both markets then yes they should bring out another version. I don't see a problem with Apple having both a normal sized iPhone and a bigger sized iPhone, they have an iPad and an iPad mini available.

If I wasn't so deep in the apple Eco system I'd switch to a galaxy 3 in a heartbeat

The screen is perfect and my iPhone 5 screen is just puny right next to it

Apple was dead wrong making the iPhone 5 just a slightly taller version iPhone 4 without making it wider

They ate paying the price with the rise of android sales

Not sure what the big deal is. They are not going to axe the 4", just sell multiple sizes just like the ipad/mini and 11,13,15 macbooks.

if you dont want a 4.8" iphone, the 4" will continue its iterative cycle too.

I guess this one would be popular in Asia.

Who came up with the name? A marginally-employed nightclub comic?

The rest of the schtick would go: "Why iPhone Math? Was the name iPhone Terrible Driver already taken? . . . Is this thing on?"

This is the perfect scenario to me. Apple going with a larger screen iPhone doesn't mean they have to sacrifice the classic 3.5" screen. They could easily offer it, a slightly wider 4" model, and a 4.8" model for people who want a much larger phone.

Apple doesn't have to offer only one device. There won't be any customer confusion over them offering a slightly expanded selection. After all, they've been doing it with the Macs for years and years now.

The note has different touch screen tech and has the smart stylus hence the name because you can write on it. But otherwise I think the specs are similar, the S3 mini also has a dual core 1ghz SOC where as the S3 as a Quad core 1.4ghz SOC the same as the Note 2.
This will all change with the S4 no doubt, rumours already talking about an 8 core SOC, utterly pointless IMO.

iPhone Math?

More like an iPhone Myth .

It's posts like this that make me think a larger iPhone is definitely on its way.

Remember when the iPad Mini was a rumor? Remember when everyone and their grandma claimed it wasn't gonna happen, how Apple never compromised, no one would want one, and Macrumors should just shut up about it because the 9.7" iPad was perfect AS PER THE WORD OF JOBS?

...and then it happened, and sold, like, a billion trillion?

Yup. New iPhone is a'comin!
