I REALLY hope they bump the Mac Studio to M2 Max/Ultra too, on account that I'll be ready to purchase one next week, but I have a feeling the Mac Studio and Mac Pro will be saved for another event this spring, or WWDC....unfortunately.

'Fractional spec upgrades at highest pricing to date. It's the Apple way.' -Tim Cook, 2023.

When was the last time Apple released anything remotely exciting via a press release?
Last Oct 18th, when they had the press release about Third-Gen Apple TV 4K, finally dropped the 2015 HD Model from Apple Store. It was exciting because it was A12 bionic to A15 bionic SoC's along with double storage for $129 64 GB storage and $149 for Ethernet/128GB storage. That was a $50 price drop compared to precious 2nd gen Apple TV 4K from $179/$199 w/32GB/62GB storage.

OK; but I thought of that as a minor spec bump while Apple used it to back door removal of ethernet as standard. Most of the reviews also so no material difference compared to existing 4k model.

1) this comment thread is hilarious; 2) guess it’s time to open up ma wallet, been waiting on this for so long. (if it’s what I’m hoping for, at least—M2 MBPs.)

Who is the $329, $449 and $599 iPads for?
Who is the $1299 MacBook Pro for that the $1199 MacBook Air or the $1999 MacBook Pro isn’t?
You’re literally saying that apple wouldn’t add a step to the ladder of their devices… When they’ve spent the last five years literally adding as many steps to their product lineups as possible.
There’s an iPhone at pretty much every price point, an iPad at pretty much every price point, a laptop at pretty much every price point, but for the desktops, there are some massive gaps.
There’s also gonna be a laptop with the M2, M2pro and M2max… but not the same options for their desktop line? No.
There’s literally an Intel Mac Mini in the lineup right now just asking to be replaced.
Also:
“Anyone who might buy it would also buy a Studio or a MBP. Apple isn't going to lose money on those purchases just because.”
You are describing up selling, and it’s literally what Tim Cook is best at.
Making a massive latter of products.
“Why spend $699 on an M2 Mac Mini, when you can spend $1299 and get an M2 iMac.
Oh you don’t want an all in one? Well then why not spend $1500 on the M2pro Mac Mini?
Oh, it’s almost perfect, but you really need extra ports? Well check out the Mac Studio.”
It’s literally his game, and a midrange desktop isn’t a bad idea to keep their shipments going up and up and up.
"Oh you want Pro level Apple Silicon and every other hardware aspect that comes along with that? $1999 please"

- Apple.

Im still debating to myself weather to get the M2 Pro or M2 Max 16".

Is the M2 Pro going to be more then enough for me... Most likely,

Do I need 38 or 40 GPU cores.... probably not,

Do I want 38 or 40 GPU cores... YES

This will be with me for the next 3 years though.

I have M1 Max and can confirm that it’s more than enough. I could’ve gotten an M1 Pro and that probably would’ve been more than enough. But I like that I “future-proofed” my Mac even though I upgrade a lot ;)

While I see a revision to the rushed 13" M2 MBP model (only 720P FaceTime camera/old speakers) it seems this could just be an update to the original group of M1 Nov 2020 products with little fanfare. The M2 MBA should be the only product soon as the M1 MBA runs out of stock. (its only available in one model with 8-Core CPU/7-Core GPU)

I expect MBPs.

Apple is currently all-in on the Mac. Apple even consider the iPhone a mature product by now, with only more iterative updates to be expected. Their focus is on the Mac (and VR, possibly) and Apple is planning to do with the Mac, what they did with iPhone. I'm expecting them to be the market leaders within the enterprise space before 2030 in the US.

Regular updates to the line-up are in important part in achieving this goal (i.e. new MBPs). The next step will be bringing a 15" laptop to the masses, which will be the MacBook (Air) 15".

I thought it was M2, I read different
It is. The 13" MBP got upgraded to the (regular) M2 along with the launch of the new MBA way back in June.

People here are talking about 14/16" MBPs featuring the M2 Pro/M2 Max, which haven't been seen in anything yet.
