Apple Rumored to Have Product Announcement Tomorrow

I would expect a press-release product announcement would be an M2 Mini and M2 iMac, maybe with additional ports. The MBPs would be part of an event.

I'd agree those are the Mac products for which a low-key release would make sense - products are more than 18 months old, lower-volume sales, no new tech, but OTOH those are not products that, historically, get frequent updates.

No particular reason to expect M2 Mini/iMac to get extra ports - those come with the Pro/Max.

M2 Pro/Max/Ultra wold be significant new processor developments and would probably justify a bit more of a splash, as would any significant upgrade to the flagship MacBook Pro range - and the MBPs aren't even 18 months old yet.

Unless the Mac Pro really is a warmed-over Studio (one more thing: we wanted to let y'all cool down a bit before admitting that the Studio Ultra, the trashcan perfected, is the new Mac Pro) I'd expect a WWDC pre-announcement because developers will need to be pre-warned about any significant architecture changes.

That said:
Most likely: false alarm
Next most likely: any other iDevice stuff.
Then: new iPhone colours, price changes, new season of Foundation... or developments of similar magnitude.
Wild mad guess: price cut/spec bump of M2 MBA and discontinuation of M1 MBA (because I assume they're gonna want to stop making M1s at some point).

Edit: just re-read the post and it does imply that there is, at least, some new hardware floating about under review embargo so it does sound like something is coming.

I bought an M1 24" iMac last week, so it'll include the M2 24" iMac. I hope you appreciate my sacrifice, as there was no way they'd do it if I hadn't made that purchase...
Believe me I do! That's better than Trader Joe's finding out they have a product you really love. That automatically means after buying it five or six times you will go back to get more and they have dropped it, never to return.

Yea TJ is like 50 miles, so if we would ever go there when they have the maple cookies, we'd hoard them

I don’t see that happening anytime soon. Goldman Sachs is not happy with Apple
Card right now.

Apple should have picked Chase or some other partner worth it. Goldman had no business running a credit card with the bumpy start. Funny enough how Goldman is losing money due to the fact that people are paying their cards off in full and full transparency of interest rates, as the card encourages that.

Don't forget they also charge the vendor. Usually 2-3%, but yeah.

Not sure why some people are so certain that a MacBook Pro couldn’t be introduced through a press release.
Almost *every* bump to the MBP has been through press releases.
Even the first generation 16 inch MacBook Pro back in 2019 was introduced via a website refresh.
Introducing a new MacBook Pro that’s absolutely identical to the previous in every way except for a newer 5NM process and an option for two extra CPU cores isn’t really something Apple has ever had a dedicated event for.
Most of the time, when they have events for MacBook Pro, it’s because they’re doing a complete redesign of them like the retina version, or the Touch Bar version, or the new version.
This is absolutely not in any way a redesign.

If it was iDevice then why have the press briefing though? M2 is out already so
M2 iMac and Mini really makes sense. Throw M2 Pro as an option and that could warrant the press briefing otherwise what else could it be?
Not Mac Pro for sure as that warrants an event on its own (unless its really not that great)
I hope we get something tomorrow. Makes the boring january a bit more exciting :)

I personally think an M2pro (probably with some cores disabled) at $1099-1299 makes perfect sense and would replace the highend Intel offering that’s still being sold.
Also it would perfectly fill in the gap between the $699 Mac mini and the $1999 max studio.
The iMac is one thing but for people who don’t want an all in one, there’s a $1300 gap Apple can fill.
Also, a product like that could help increase Mac shipments even more, and they’ve been going up and up and up for the last three years.

Here’s hoping, I thought that updates would come more often without having to wit on Intel.
A few things happened along the way. The supply chain disruption hurt. Apple lost a bunch of chip designers and engineers (other companies lured them away with more lucrative offers). TSMC ran into issues with 4nm so Apple largely skipped the node. Hopefully things pick back up over the next 2 years.
