Nice. An insulting, gimped, Mac mini with soldered ram, with every corner cut to jack the bottom line. Wonderful

Then again, I might be surprised?

Nah

If they make the base 16GB that would be acceptable, otherwise I don't even want to look, thanks. Ram is the contentious part of this equation now. You can't do anything about that.

I don’t see that happening anytime soon. Goldman Sachs is not happy with Apple
Card right now.

That's not Apple's fault, though. Goldman was desperate to break into the consumer credit market, gave Apple preferential terms, and didn't do a good job underwriting credit. That said, the savings account is likely part of the fix for Goldman. The type of customer interested in a savings account (particularly now that rates are rising) is also likelier to spend more consistently and pay off monthly, generating interchange revenue without the credit losses.

They way Apple is going, Tim's pay cuts will continue until he owes them money.

(I'm preparing myself for the letdown with this 'update' LOL)

$1999 is Mac Studio with Max chip.

M2 Mac mini is a given. M2 Pro Mac mini is not happening. Pricing doesn't work. Apple isn't going to let Pro Apple Silicon out the door for less than $1999.

An Apple Polishing Cloth Subscription Service. Actually, I hope it’s MBP-related because I have a model from 2013 I can’t run the latest OS on and this would be nice timing.

Hypothetically, how would that work? Would it be like the type of car wash you get at gas stations. The cheapest is the most basic. The more expensive can actually get underneath the screen and really get that dirt out? Maybe with all the talk of VR, you can clean your phone virtually?

Not sure why some people are so certain that a MacBook Pro couldn’t be introduced through a press release.
Nothing is certain - but 5nm M2 Pro/Max would still be pretty significant upgrades (even if people were dreaming of 3nm), the MBPs are probably Apple's real "flagship" products so a bit of a splash would be expected. Anyway, post-2019 the only difference between a "press release" and an "event" is a week's notice and a video.

Even the first generation 16 inch MacBook Pro back in 2019 was introduced via a website refresh.

That may have had something to do with sales of the previous model 15" MBP tanking because of the keyboard and thermal throttling issues, making it pretty urgent to get the 16" out of the door.

Apple should have picked Chase or some other partner worth it. Goldman had no business running a credit card with the bumpy start. Funny enough how Goldman is losing money due to the fact that people are paying their cards off in full and full transparency of interest rates, as the card encourages that.

"Goldman's collection of businesses, known as Platform Solutions, lost over $1.2 billion in pre-tax losses in the first nine months of 2022 and was driven mainly by loan-loss provisions. It was mostly tied to the Apple Card, according to Business Insider."

The problem was that Goldman was issuing accounts to people who couldn't get accounts with other credit card providers (for a good reason). Card companies don't mind customers who pay off every month. Those customers are called "transactors" (vs. "revolvers") and are most interested in the reward programs. Card issuers make money from them with the fees they charge merchants. Adding the savings program makes the reward program more attractive, though they also should sign on more partners to offer expanded rewards (3% cash back etc.).

It's not a physical product announcement, but a new service.

We're calling it Maps+ and we think you're gonna love it.

Why does something like a HomePod feel more interesting than the M2 Chips in the MBP? Something worth the refresh that I'll actually buy. But I'm glad to get some energy moving into the new year.

Also it would perfectly fill in the gap between the $699 Mac mini and the $1999 max studio.
While I quite agree that there's a Mx Pro-shaped gap in the range right where the remaining Intel Mini is placed, the question is why it hasn't already been plugged with a M1 Pro Mini or Studio. Apple might see a Mx Pro Mac Mini as a much-needed gap in the range for some strategic reason.

I don't see the Mini getting a "scoop" on the M2 Pro before the (higher selling) MacBook Pros are shipping in quantity.

Also, an M2 Pro Mini would have faster single-core CPU and GPU performance than the M1 Max Studio, which could be awkward until the Studio line gets a M2 bump.
