Mark G “I believe that a larger, redesigned iMac to replace the Intel 27-inch models is en route. Apple increasing the screen size of the smaller model from 21.5 inches to 24 inches seems to indicate that the 27-inch model could see a size increase as well. I don't think, however, that Apple will launch the larger model with the same M1 chip that's in the smaller model.

He now tweeted that the next iMac ( probably the successor to the intel one) will also feature promotion and miniLED and the 27 inch display was meant for that not the other monitor

If Joe can see this please update the OP. Thanks

April is NOT in Q1.
Yeah, so? I didn't say Q1.

Indeed, no specific solid rumour as to size. It was a guess.

BTW, the smaller one is 23.5".

A lot -- a LOT -- of people don't need HDR and blistering levels of brightness
Similarly, a lot of people don't need 4K monitors either, but having HDR and 4K allows for people to watch 4K HDR content. It may seem like overkill, but in 10 years my guess is half of new mainstream YouTube will have HDR content in 4K and 8K, and most streaming platforms already have 4K HDR content.

@MacRumors you need to change the title
“”OK, tweeted too early. The 27" MiniLED screen is going in an iMac in Q1'22, not an external monitor. May see a monitor later. Still 24Hz - 120Hz variable refresh...Sorry for the confusion!””

bugger.

I got really excited then about an external monitor. Should have guessed it was an imac.....

Having said that a 27" MiniLED imac with M1 max specs would be very tempting.

good news is the 27" Apple monitor will make the 55" LG OLED TV look like a bargain.

I bought a M1 iMac figuring it might take time for more powerful desktops, but would love to upgrade to a Mac Mini Pro with two or three of these screens.

I don’t mean to sound rude, but Apple is probably not going to release the new iMac 27” before 2022.

Who knows.

The M1 iMac 24” is cheaper, with only 8GB and 256GB SSD.

But if you use it for APFS, external HDDs, and macOS Monterey, then you’re not actually losing money. They’re going to support it for 8 years.

Does that make sense?

I hate wasting money, but I can’t, and I’ve spent hours and hours thinking about this— I can’t find a reason that a iMac M1 24” 8GB RAM 256GB SSD is a waste of money.

Maybe someone could offer a different opinion?

This brings joy to my heart! Very much looking forward to the new larger iMac's and Q122 is rapidly approaching. Maybe with M2 MAX chips to go along. 🤪

I hate ultra wide monitor. Just looks weird.

No matter what I do, I cannot see an ultra-wide monitor as anything less than a normal display sliced in half with the top half missing. 3840 x 1080 is just a 4K display missing half the pixels haha. Once I see it like that, then I think to myself... why not just get a large 4K display, that's like two ultra wide screens on top of each other ;)

I guess this 27inch iMac might be M1 Pro/Max version of iMac. A high end iMac is rumored to share with Mac Pro Cube's chip.

It's not ideal for normal computer stuff, but it's useful for web development work lol. I need two full size windows side by side. Otherwise the 24" iMac is perfect for me. Even 27" seems a little big to me.
