Yeah. I totally see me writing code and managing server farms with a tablet....
If the tablet is only the core of a proper workplace with external keyboard, monitor and pointing device - why not? As others have said - it only boils down to Software.

Several years ago Apple applied for a patent for using a tablet in a monitor acting as docking unit. So they are at least aware of the options.

Most computers that are in use in offices are not going anywhere any time soon. When those PC's are end of life, they will be replaced with newer PC's.
This is more a reason of price and existing software. And the current trend towards (improved) mobility gains momentum even (or especially) in big companies.

It's not entirely impossible for the iPad to offer OLED over iPhone first.
It would even make sense, as the production numbers for the iPad are significantly lower than for the iPhone, so Apple could gather experience with big(ger) OLED on a smaller scale, before bringing it to their cash cow.

I am still using a gen 4 ipad for most of my regular day-to-day needs. [...] I could probably get another year out of it, but I'd rather see a new release now that screams upgrade to push me to a new one.
To be honest - even an Air 2 is already screaming "Upgrade" here from the top of its lungs.

Do we have an iPad-specific OS yet? No? [Puts wallet away]

Totally agree. I have an iPad Air 2 and back when it was announced the marketing message was "Desktop Class" performance. The performance is still good in 2017 it’s the software which is lacking. Apple wants us to use it as content editing device but its severely hobbled by making easy tasks difficult and cumbersome.

I agree that a 10.5 iPad is on its way but why make this their 'bezel-less flagship' iPad rather than the 12.9? Apple has historically placed a flagship status on its largest screened devices. Certainly as far as iOS devices go. With this being the case, wouldn't it make more sense to release bezel-less 10.5 and 12.9? Which pro user would sacrifice screen real estate for thin bezels? Style over substance. Thoughts?
A pro user who wants portability...

Microsoft Office 365 IS FREE when used on a device with less than 10" display. Right now, I'm using a fully functional Office 365 on my 9.7" iPad.

Office 365 will need subscription on new 10" iPads. Do people realize that?
Don't think most people use that office or even care about it...

But April is later this year, right? Just as we're being pedantic.

You and other's have raised this point so I will explain my reasoning; Context.

Are we not all talking about an Apple press release that said both of these things: that Apple Park would open in April and the Steve Job Theater, later this year?

They could have said both of these would open in April if that's what they meant.

Regardless, they mentioned a month, 'April'. So that should be the context used when they then say, 'later this year'.

I worry that Apple is at risk of creating analysis paralysis for customers trying to make buying decisions. It's what they worked so hard to avoid when Steve came back.

There won't be OLED on the iPad before the iPhone. Since they are rumoured to put OLED into the iPhone in September I don't think we will see an OLED iPad until at least next year if not the year after.

That darn OLED technology is so hard to implement. I mean, even Samsung hasn't...oh wait...nevermind. ;)

The iPad series is Apple Computer's consumer product family of Apple tablets sold through Apple stores and mass-market retailers from 2010-2018, when it was superseded by the iPhone 8s Plus Pro Tablet SE Edition series. The iPhone 8s Plus Pro Tablet series was not a new line of tablets, but simply renamed models from Apple's regular line of tablets—such as iPad, iPad Pro, iPad Mini, iPad Air and iPad Pro Pro—sold by authorized Apple resellers. The initial series of models consisted of iPad.

Funny enough (re: the quote you posted), I _do_ actually manage and monitor some significant infrastructure on both AWS and Rackspace from iOS devices :)

Common things I've heard are access to file system, and better printing support

I think it's worth clarifying that while I believe "file management" needs improvement, I'd say that a vast majority of users don't need straight up FS access (like you'd see in MacOS/Windows/Linux, with the exception of some kind of developer/advanced toggle).

What needs improvement is the app intercommunication across a centralized file repository. Otherwise there's too much file duplication (leading to version control issues), and it leaves too much of the implementation up to the developer.

I had a recent workflow issue (dealing with scanning/signing/editing/faxing), with two apps from the same developer (who makes outstanding products). The required file IO should've been available through exposure at the OS level, so leaving it to the developer left me having to use a silly workaround.

I didn't say it was hard to implement, my point was that it's unlikely to be in the iPad before the iPhone. You can't really mention Samsung getting things right when they couldn't even get their battery right without catching fire and putting people's life's in danger.

I'm confuse, so the 12.9" still remain and while the 10.5" display is replacement of the old 9.7"?
So if can make a 10.5" edgeless, why not 12.9" also edgeless also?

Like they did with the ipad mini, the redesign will come first with the dgpu dimensions of the 9.7" . But i hope when the redesign will happen for the 12.9" to KEEP the 12.9" display and REDUCE the overall dimensions and weight

Yes I would prefer also the 12.9" to reduce size and weight. Or if same size then increase the screen size.

You can pry my real computer, from my cold dead hands.
Hear, hear. I get things done much quicker on a laptop/desktop than on a phone or tablet. For me, the latter get frustrating to use since they are not as capable. With that said, I'm definitely buying one of these 10.5 iPads.

Was the white iPhone 7 rumor from last December discarded? I read a lot about the red iPhone 7, but I'd like the white one...

What, you gave up the awesome functionality and power of Pages and Numbers for Office 365?
