The new Apple ads are incredibly stale. It used to be about being a better and cooler product then the competition. So I can watch videos on iPad, view pictures and take pictures? Same as everyone else? Ok, I guess that's cool still, right?

The real irony with these ads is that the iPad can't do many of the things shown out of the box. You have to pay extra for third party software.

It's like advertising an iMac running Photoshop.

Of course these ads are typical for a product in the stale part of it's lifespan. When the hardware cannot sell itself then marketing has to create ways to make it look an attractive proposition. And that usually means software.

Yeah, I understand the words, I just don't like the yelling. It's not that ad specifically, they do the same in all of them. And I don't think the yelling is necessary to get the message across (no whispering needed either).

they are the ones who does iAds so they do whatever they feel thats right

I personally love how cutting edge the movie clips are on this ad. I mean Back to the Future, Apollo 13, and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom were just released, right? ;)

But seriously - they couldn't get rights to some more contemporary movies? Maybe some of the actual Oscar contenders?

I was just royally sick of the shameless promoting of the Samsung Galaxy products. Wanted to throw a kettlebell at my TV every time a Samsung ad appeared. Bad enough the Oscar reporters had to promote the Galaxy Tab and note. That was just beyond classless Sammy.

I agree. Product placements are stupid and base, only perpetrated by the desperate and needy. Just ask Alec Baldwin! He hates product pla..

"According to Brandcameo, 30 percent of last year's top movies featured some kind of Apple product, whether it was a MacBook, iPod or an iPhone."

Apple products appeared in 891 TV shows in 2011 alone. According to Brandchannel, iDevices were in 40 percent of movie box office hits.

...and so on. SHAMELESS I tell ya!

I'm beginning to realize that pretty much the only people that post on here complain about virtually everything that Apple does... Whine... Moan... Boo Hoo. Most if you are the stereotypical "Apple" spoiled children. It's sad really.

As for the ads... Apple can do more with 5 :30 ads like this than that whole debacle that Sansung is trying to do.

Eventually people will get sick of seeing Samsung commercials every 5 seconds.

really feel these new iPad commercials are corny

almost embarrassing how Apple had the best commercials to easily the worst

Who cares whether the ipad can do these things out of the box or not? Can a Windows PC run Photoshop out of the box? And not everything they show in these ads are apps you have to pay for.

I don't have an iPad. The more I see these ads, the more I want one. The ads are extremely effective in demonstrating a product and it's capabilities within an extremely short amount of time. Most of the Samsung ads I see don't do this. They barrage me with a sort of hipster pretentiousness that doesn't sell the product to me. I think Apple is doing a great job at advertising the iPad.

Ok I am going to say it so go ahead and bash me down.

Since Steve has left the ads have been boring uninspired. I used to love Apple ads they created a visceral warm fuzzy feeling. They used to have ads that set the standard for the industry. Remember the first iPod ads with the silhouetted dancers with cool music playing.

The current ads are uninspiring. I am not here to compare their ads to other companies, I am only comparing to Apple's previous ads which were phenomenal.

I also am not saying there is a causality with absence of Steve for this change. I am just observing the time relationship wether coincidental or truly a direct result of the lack of his input the ads have in my opinion taken a significant drop in quality.

UGH, these new commercials are so bad. I hope this doesn't become a trend with Apple. :(

The cohort of MacRumors forums are not the target audience for more iStuff, you have already bought in.

What you like is not necessarily what new customers or comeback customers will like.

,

It doesn't matter who the target audience is, the ads are terrible from the artistic standpoint. If I wasn't already drunk with the apple Kool Aid I would have to say the ads with the little girl asking her google tablet questions are more interesting than these. IMO the best ads are those that entertain us,
show an amazing product and most importantly connect with us on the visceral level. These ads do none of the above.

The funny thing is that these ads - sub-par to Apple's usual standards, although the Genius ads during the Olympics were awful - are still much better than most other ads from computer/phone/tech companies (and even companies in general). We set high standards for Apple and when anything they do - products, service, marketing - doesn't live up to the standard, even if it is still better than much of their competition, we excoriate them (as we should). Apple is the pinnacle and should be held to the highest standard possible. I have to admit that these ads are designed well other than the sound design. At least the products are shown in use without needing to show the "screen images simulated" disclaimer.

That's precisely why these ads are good other than the sound. The problem is that the sound design is jarring enough for enough people that it cancels out the good of the visual design.

Awful, just awful

These ads are terrible. They apps they are showing go by so quickly, the flashing of the words distracting, and the shouting of the words extremely annoying. Thanks Tim for abdicating your job to those around you.

Light! Camera! and Action!

are words traditionally called out loudly by the director in a film production. It doesn't have the same impact if he whispers it.

Exactly. It was perfect for the Lights, Camera, Action theme of the show.

Best Oscars in a long, long, time IMO. Seth simply makes fun at what we say in our little "Circles of People".

Boobs Baby, Boobs!!!!
