I have always been a fan of sapphire on my high-end watches... but on a technological device that will most likely lose most of its value within a few year, no thanks. Not hating, just dismissing. ;)

Why would you spend 1k on a iwatch that will still require a phone for the functionality?

----------

never will happen and you will need 2 separate phone numbers. Dream on.

Technically you can have 2 sims on the same number or linked numbers on 2 sims. Won't have it of course as the battery life would be shocking.

As for the 1K ... I spent 3k - pounds not dollars on a watch that only has hands. Don't even wear it. Some people spend 100K plus.

Think you are missing the point.

Can I write one of these articles "Apple Said to Be Planning..." too? I'm sure I can make up something as well

This is the next Smart Watch I want to see!

It's Morphin' time!

that may be the ugliest mock up thus far. it need to be extremely thin, perhaps even slightly curved. no plug in charger. it need to have a nice band. no plastic snap together crap. a real leather or metal resizable band. i had one of those up bands and lost it because it just kinda wrapped around your wrist. waste of $100+.

Diversity is good.

I'm glad Apple is giving choices as longs as their product line doesn't become too confused.

Like the iPad line: Selling 4 variants of the two models and then two older models. I kind of miss Apples simple 1 or 2 product lineups.

The iPad Line is a complete Clusterfuk right now.

This wont sell unless it looks like an acutal watch IMO. Most of us don't want to walk around with a baby smartphone screen on our wrists. NERRRRRRD ALERT.

I would only consider buying one of those iWatches if they look like an actual watch and not like those redic mockups that make it look like an iPod Nano on your wrist.

Can you imagine wearing one of these during a business meeting? embarrassing

I wear an Android Wear during business meetings and it's not embarrassing at all. In fact, meeting with people for the first time it can become an icebreaker and an engagement piece; 100% of inquiries have been positive and truly interested in the watch.

But please, keep assuming.

----------

Then why not just buy a real watch? Just as embarrassing would be ones watch face lighting up every time they got a notification of some sort.

On Android Wear (and one would assume on iWatch) I have my settings to keep the face off until I gesture to turn the screen on - no face lighting up when I get notifications until I want to look at them.

Haven't Apple been taking steps to protect the name 'iWatch' in various countries?

They do this for hundreds if not thousands of potential trademark names, few of which are ever used for real products. For similar reasons, MR was totally convinced a few years ago that Apple would release a product called the "iSlate" -- no matter how obviously awful that name would have been. As before, the iWatch name is a convenient placeholder created by the rumor community to describe a future product that we still know very little about, and it isn't based on any hard evidence about the actual product. But it's been used so much that the tail is now wagging the dog.

No way. iWatch won't have a touchscreen, it'll have a 3D beamy thing giving a hologram effect like off Star Wars, all which is fully interactive. This means if you need more real-estate or add new features, it's not a problem; one of the main advantages when the iPhone didn't come with a physical keyboard. Otherwise there's no advantage to a small touchscreen; it won't add any functionality to the ecosystem. It won't be as good as an iPhone/iPad for browsing, making calls, or anything else. It'll be redundant.

My money's firmly on Apple popping in some technology 5-10 years ahead of their competitors' pipelines. If they perfect it they could easily have it running in tandem with an iPhone to make calls (much like OS X 10.10 will), without the limitations of the Galaxy Gear (crappy sluggish interface and tiny screen).

I think you just showed the patent for this...

A lot of people are calling this product the iWatch, as if it's a completely new product category which needs a new name - but here's a thought - what if it's actually called the iPod?

In other words, this product line is actually going to be a major rethinking of what the iPod actually is? Most people now buy iPhones instead of the iPod touch etc. Apple hasn't really talked about iPods in their events for a long while.

So, calling the new product the "iPod" would leverage the brand name that everybody knows and loves already.

It's just that instead of the iPods of old which go in your pocket, Apple is basically saying that that the iPhone is now your pocketable device - and that the iPod is going to be reborn in a different form factor.

We will then see the end of the iPod classic etc.

This is the way it should be. Leverage the iPod brand by reinventing it. It won't be just a watch so why call it iWatch. But I would hate to see the end of the iPod classic.

Businessboy, much? There is more than Business meetings in this world. Those who have to do these ultra important meetings have the money to buy some 'use for a certain meeting only, 10k US$ and up wristwatch' for the meeting to not embarrass themselves.

Most people who attend meetings daily aren't CEOs, you know.
