You guys who want mac minis.. What do you use it for? As your main desktop? Hook up to the tv?

What we're hoping is that both the new Mac Mini and the new TB Display will support VESA FDMI so that we can create a modular iMac.

FINALLY. Someone else who sees this.
Apple Events have, for awhile now, become parodies of themselves.
Same tired cliches, catchphrases, tropes, buzzwords, graphics, etc., etc.

Steve created these to mean something
Now they do them just to do them. And for spec bumped products, no less!

What Apple must do is stop having events for every product release.
They've become watered down & not guanteed blowaway like they once were.
A specialized splashpage on thier website plus press notices are more than enough.

Save the events for really special things.
That way, when they do happen, the public will think:
"Oh, crap-this one's a biggie 'cause Apple doesn't have these events for just anything!"

Example:
DESERVED EVENTS
iMac [G3]
iMac [Sunflower]
iMac [G5]
iBook [Clamshell]
iPod
iPhone
iPhone 3G
iPhone 4
iPhone 5
iPhone 6/6 Plus
iPod Touch
iPod Nano [The one with the camera & played games. Thier best nano ....]
MacBook Air [Pulling it out of an envelope .... Fantastic!!]
AppleTV
iPad
iPad 2
iPad Air
AppleTV Set
Whatever it is Tim said is: "... unknown & not rumored about."

DON'T DESERVE EVENTS
iMac upgrades
iPod upgrades
iPhone 4S
iPhone 5S
AppleTV upgrades
iPad 3
iPad 4
iPad Air 2

See? Save it for something very special & unique, not EVERY flaggin' product!
Again, that way, the events will once again be meaningful.

I think if it's just a speed/RAM bump, that doesn't require an event.

If there is a case design difference, new generation processor or any significant changes to screen technology or new additional technology not implemented before, then it might, but they gloss through stuff pretty fast when it's not a major update and they spend more time on things that are newer designs or technology.

Apple should hold back iCloud Drive on iOS until Yosemite is released. There are going to be a lot of angry folks that upgrade and break the connection to Mavericks.

I agree. For those people not on the public beta of Yosemite, it can screw things up. I was mostly concerned with my Day One journal; thankfully they addressed this issue via email yesterday.

If you can't afford it then don't buy it.

I was just being silly but if you have nothing positive to say, don't respond to my posts in the future. Appreciate it.

Maybe you were joking but for a lot of people around the world, spending their entire paycheck and then some on something they don't truly need is a reality. To that reality, SugetiPula's advice would be an act of kindness.

If you really were in a humorous mood you wouldn't likely turn sour so quickly and that leads me to believe that SugetiPula struck a vein of truth that hurts.

Still 1GB RAM or no?

I guess we won’t know till the event, but it’s possible. It’s my understanding the extra space in the iPad allows RAM to be “external” to the SOC (ex: 1GB A5 in the iPad 3rd gen vs. the 512MB A5 in the iPhone/iPT) so the fact that the iPone A8 implementation has 1GB doesn’t preclude an iPad having 2GB :)

No iPod Touch 6th gen?

Yeah, I’m wondering if that’s an abandoned product line. It did get the iPhone 5 display update to 4”, but it’s still running the A5 from the 4S. So _now_ we’re on the A8 - that’s three generations behind. I figured they’d at least do an A6 update to bring it up to iPhone 5 specs.

If Apple hasn’t bailed on it, then a 4.7” iPT would be a slick little device. :)

I still have my iPad 4, but I just got a MBPr and I love it. I use it all of the time and I use my iPad a lot less. Since I just ordered the iPhone 6, I might actually get to the point where I won't even need the iPad since the iPhone 6 might be big enough to use instead. Time will tell on that one.

I, unfortunately, see the larger screen iPhones doing some cannibalization of the iPad market. That's just a hunch on my part.

Yeah, our iPad is also a 4th Gen and while it still runs solid, I was pretty set on swapping it for a rMini, but now I’m thinking if/when I wind up with a 5.5” iP6+ that will satisfy what I want in a lightweight reader/browser with decent screen real estate.

More predictable iDevice upgrades, why even bother with a "media event?"

Nobody is forcing the media to come, but apparently, they don't feel so bored at these events.

And in any case, the only reason why the events are boring is that everything is being leaked before the keynotes.

My main desktop. Core i7 with 16GB and SSD. Very powerful for basically any task I want to use it for (e.g. video editing). Only complaint some people might have is the graphics.

Looking forward to an iPad upgrade:

  • A8 processor - yay!
  • 256 GB storage (come on Apple don't be so stingy with storage)
  • 2GB ram, if it actually improves performance
  • Migration Assistant to transfer data/apps from old to new iPad with lighting connector
  • Stiffer, non bendable frame like iPad 4
  • Break resistant glass

Don't need the stupid Touch ID.

When will Apple fix iTunes? Do the executives at Apple actually use iTunes? If they did they would see how frustrating it is and maybe do something about it.

While I agree with the rest of your post to a certain extent, I am really sick of this "Steve did this and that and they screwed it up!" BS. If you say that the keynotes are becoming a joke, then I have to respond: It was no different under Steve Jobs. He created the format, he made the rules, and he played it out, year after year after year, every year the same show, no matter if he had anything revolutionary to present or just a slightly different version of the iPod. And often enough, his "One more thing" was nothing worth remembering ("One more thing: Safari for Windows! Wooohooo! Magical!"). He was the one who introduced the over-the-top verbiage, and people already joked about it long before he died.

People really need to stop with the Steve Jobs nostalgia. Do people really have such short memories, or do they want to believe that Steve did no wrong? He was a great visionary, but he was not flawless.

And for the record, I enjoy the keynotes, just like I enjoy a nice popcorn movie. It's just a matter of getting into it. I can understand people who don't like them. But they should talk to Jobs to complain about them. If he were alive, they would look exactly the same as they do now under Cook. In fact, all of Apple would look exactly the same. I am absolutely sure about that.

Which iTunes are you talking about? iTunes for the Mac is pretty decent nowadays. But iTunes for Windows will always suck, I fear. ;)

My (read: my wifes) iPad 2 is getting a bit long in the tooth, and iOS 8 won't make it any faster.
But boy it's been used a lot. Awesome piece of electronics.

I guess it's time to cough up the money for a new.

Same here. I've had an iPad 2 since launch day and it's been through a LOT - but compared to newer models it's starting to feel pretty sluggish. Not to mention the lack of a retina display.

I'll wait and see if the rumored iPad Pro makes an appearance at the event. Now that I have an iPhone 6+ the iPad is going to have to get larger and more powerful to justify it's existence in my house.

I shall be sticking with my iPad Air for the foreseeable future. TouchID on an iPad, whilst a logical update, seems totally useless to me and not worth the upgrade. I barely use the device as it is.

Prior to iOS 8 I'd agree, but I live and die by 1Password on both iPhone and iPad, and now that they can support Touch ID it's insanely useful on an iPad.

Then again I'm still running a 3rd gen WiFi iPad and want to upgrade to a T-Mobile Mini anyway.

Don't forget about the iPod touches! They upgrade with every new iPhone digit so every 2 years.

iPhone 4, iPhone 5, now iPhone 6

I am really excited to see what they come up with all the iPod lines to revive them. They are a dieing business.

I predict them making the iPod touch only a 4.7" config. So to make the iPhone have more leverage and who wants a 5.5" workout mp3 player?!

Also look at the iPod section for IOS upgrades, its so sad and alone :(

Same here!

I decided to skip the 5th gen ipod touch as I thought that it was inferior when it came to storage on the top of the range version!

If they ever do release a 128gb or 256gb version then I'll definitely buy one for my podcasts and J-Pop/J-Rock and K-pop songs!

And yet another request for the new Mac Mini. Any other Macs would be nice too (who knows with the Broadwell delays.)

@voidptr > thanks for the tip about 1Password. I've been considering that for my next iPhone.

If the iPad Air 2 doesn't have more RAM then it's a pass for me. How much would a 5K Retina ACD cost? $5K? I'm sure it would be gorgeous though.

Are your apps not performing? I have not noticed any issues with mine. Serious question, not trolling.

Unless they're releasing new desktop options, this is of no real interest to me. I bought the Air last year, and I can't fathom why I'd need an upgrade for a while. My guess is Apple won't see more of my money until Broadwell ships.

thanks for letting us know.

Good news. I was hoping that the iPad would get an update soon. I got a Mini for $199 as a holder for the 64GB LTE version.

Here's to 2GBs or more and split screen multitasking.

Any chance of a 250GB ipad? Haven't been keeping up with ipad news in the last few years but I wouldn't mind a tablet now that I'm flying more for my job and don't want to bring my work laptop along with my personal one

The October event is pretty much a push for holiday sales. iPads tend to be the biggest seller for gifts. October before last people were buying 2 - 5 ipads at a time and asking if we gift wrapped. XD
